Barry was heavily influenced by American R & B, most notably Motown, The Defonics, and Chi-Lites. Also they wrote To Love Somebody for Otis Redding but he died so they recorded it. The one person who influenced Barry to sing falsetto was Russell Tompkins of The Stylistics.

They just didn't like being famous for that because fans of their late '70s Disco songs showed little to no interest in their earlier work, so they began to resent the Disco songs that made them megastars. Just because they made the songs before the SNF soundtrack, that doesn't mean anything because Disco was around for several years before that movie. As for you loving my reactions, I don't know what you're talking about, I'm not a reactor.

@@angelapietro4734 Maurice is on record saying that he and his brothers grew to resent their Disco songs because they attracted so many new fans who were only interested in hearing those songs, and none of their previous work from earlier in the '70s and '60s. This is not an uncommon phenomenon for artists. Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin grew to hate their iconic hit, "Stairway To Heaven", because it was all any reporter or fan ever wanted to talk about or hear them play. Sir Alec Guinness, is an even more perfect parallel to the brothers Gibb. Alec was an esteemed actor in Britain for decades before he played Obi Wan Kenobi in, STAR WARS, and he resented that the new fans of his only cared about him as Obi Wan. Hell, Harrison Ford had a similar disdain for his iconic character of, Han Solo, in STAR WARS, because even though he went on to perform in many other great roles throughout his career, he felt he was always viewed by the fans as, Han Solo, because that's what they always wanted to ask him about. It got to the point that he would only go on talk shows under the condition that the host not ask him anything about, STAR WARS. So you can believe what you want, sweetheart, but Maurice has explicitly said they resented their Disco songs soon after releasing them, because those songs defined their group in the eyes of so many fans, and the brothers felt like they had so much great music that pre-dated their Disco period, that hardly any fans showed any interest in hearing. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They didn`t like the term disco (kings)! They were writing songs for her new album, when their producer R. Stigwood asked them to write the soundtrack for his new movie saturday night fever. They told him that they wouldn`t have time for this, but he could have some of the songs they have written for the new album. They knew nothing about the movie. The Bee Gees' involvement in the film did not begin until post-production. As John Travolta asserted, "The Bee Gees weren't even involved in the movie in the beginning ... I was dancing to Stevie Wonder and Boz Scaggs. The brothers wrote the songs "virtually in a single weekend" at Château d'Hérouville studio in France. Saturday Night Fever was the best-selling album in music history, and still ranks among the best-selling soundtrack albums worldwide, with sales figures of over 40 million copies. The album stayed atop the charts for 24 straight weeks from January to July 1978 and stayed on Billboard's album charts for 120 weeks until March 1980. So they become the "disco kings"without knowing what disco was/meant or being interested in disco music. Barry once said he's never been to a disco!

Yes, The Stylistics, You Make Me Feel Brand New. LOVE that song so much! Hey, check out Simply Red's rendition of You Make Me Feel Brand New.. more proof that soul has no color. And yes, Barry Gibb was fine in the day. The Gibb brother's (all four) very talented! I loved the Bee Gees long before their disco run. Robin Gibb's voice in Massachusetts & I Started a JOKE is hauntingly beautiful. Voices of angels I always said.

I love this song. It was played in dance clubs (Disco's back then) for a long time. You could kiss a partner in the slow bit and rock out dance to the heavy metal part.

In my opinion, The Bee Gees greatest hits were not the disco hits. Those were the most popular hist but they had better music before and after disco. That was good dance music but they were so much more. They said that they listened to a lot of The Stylistics music. If you want to listen to another non-disco gem, For Whom the Bell Tolls 2003 by the Bee Gees. They had hits for 5 decades.

There are so many people who still think they are only a disco band. First off they aren't a disco band. They had their first #1 in 1967. Barry's falsetto didn't come about till 1975 with a song called Nights on Broadway. They kept recording and performing till 2001. The 70s were their only disco music

You gotta listen to "Fannie Be Tender With my Love". QUINCY JONES said it was the best R&B song he ever heard. It was also their moms favorite!

One thing to remember that The Bee Gees are much more than the aprox 5 years of the Disco era that started for them in 1975 with Jive Talkin' (Not really a disco song, but is popular mentioned as their ventures into that genre), and ended in 1979 with their song Love You Inside Out, again not really Disco but R&B. They wrote 14 number 1's in that periode, some sung by them selves other song by others. But They started in 1955 with singing in The Garmount Theater in Manchester, moved to Australia and got the name BG's in 1958 later changed to The Bee Gees. Had their first number 1 in New Zealand in 1966 with Spicks and Specks before returning to UK in 1967, and here got their first international number 1 with Massachusetts and then a lot of hits up to 1972. This was in a lot of genres like Pop, Rock, Beat, Soul, R&B, ballads and even a classic tune like Seven Seas Symphony. Then there was a down periode where they could not find their true direction. But in 1974 they teamed up with the producer Arif Mardin and he helped them find their way into R&B/soul music and that started the whole Disco thing eventhough they never really wrote a disco song but the puplic called it that and it sticked to them. In 1979 they were hit by the disco backlash, with things like the Disco demolition night and also Bee Gees free weekends on radio stations because they dominated so much that radio stations wanted opportunities to play other artists music as well. I don't think that has happened before or since. From 1980 and forward they concentrated more to write for others and made hits for Barbra Streisand, Dionne Warwick, Kenny Rogers/Dolly Parton and Diana Ross. In later years they also wrote for Celine Dion and Cliff Richard + a lot of artist covered their songs, songs like To Love Somebody and Words are most covered. They wrote a song called Only One Woman for the band The Marbles in 1969, try give that a listen, it is just stunning. In 1987 they had a comeback with the UK number 1 You Win Again, did not do so well in the US as The Bee Gees name were still in bad standing. From there they had a lot of hits but no more number 1's. The last album was This Is Where I Came In from 2001. Barry Gibb ended up having a number 1 album in 2021 with his album Greenfields Vol. 1 which unfortunately looks like will be the last, but hopefully I am wrong. He is the last living Bee Gee at the age of 77

The audiences gave well-deserved standing ovations for these amazingly talented performances. 1) George Michael and Elton John -live - "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on You". 2) Adam Lambert -live at the Kennedy Center, honoring Cher, "Believe" 3) Heart -live at the Kennedy Center, honoring Led Zepplin, "Stairway to Heaven".
