The rhythm was inspired by the chunka-chunka-chunka sound of a car rolling over a bridge crossing Biscayne Bay near Miami; the Bee Gees went over it on their way to Criteria Studios, where they were recording the Main Course album. Robin Gibb explained to The Mail On Sunday November 1, 2009: "We'd already thought up the title for this song, but it wasn't until Barry, Maurice and I drove from Biscayne Bay to Miami that we realized what the tune was going to be. We had the idea as we passed over a bridge. Some tar noises made a rhythmic sound on the wheels of our car, which created the feel to the type of song we wanted to write. We finished the song at the Criteria Studios that day."

Love the Bee Gees!!! In worldwide radio, a Bee Gees song is played every 20 seconds. Another bass player is Mark King from the band Level 42 Something about you is fire

This is the one that swept them up on their second wave of fame that lasted until they dipped their toe then their whole foot into the disco genre at the end of the 70s. Their third wave was genius as welk, with you win again, for whom the bell tolls, this is where i came in.. and loads more. What a group

@Liizzie with all due respect they didn't dip anything into the disco genre. They hated that label and the backlash against them when labeled the poster child of disco. Again and again they stressed that they wrote contemporary r&b and blue eyed soul, a hint of European pop . Music they'd already wrote for a studio album and lent to the SNF film led to the association with disco. It's something they addressed over and over in interviews and were tired of it coming up a decade later.

@@Zlata1313 No disrepect felt. I appreciate that they didnt like the labelling, and didnt even write for disco. They called their music contemporary r & b, but we can't deny the fact that they perfected the disco genre, deliberate or not. Most other disco groups were crap (ok, that's a bit offensive but apart from donna summer and EW&F there are not too many memorable disco tunes out there). I just feel they perfected each genre they dipped into then moved on. Take country songs like Butterfly, Bury me down by the River, rest your love on me, Islands in the stream. They are perfect country songs. Same with other genres. The perfect trio.

Great reaction! There are very few artists as diverse as The Bee Gees. Their harmonies are unparalleled not to mention their prolific songwriting. Please react to HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVE, thank you.

I bought the Sunburst Rickenbacker 4001 in my photo because I saw Maurice playing one in this video! 😄 Please react to 'Nights On Broadway', the first song they used their high falsettos in, and 'Alone', the video with the clips of them in the studio, meeting people, and goofing around when they were younger...great scenes, plus one of their best high harmony songs!

The Brothers Gibb were the best. Keep going with them and enjoy the ride. Maurice is pronounced Morris. For Whom the Bell Tolls, Heart Like Mine, Rings Around the Moon, Don't Fall in Love With Me Baby, Words.

Love, Love, Love the bass line that MO is putting out with this song. He also can play keyboards but really prefers bass and is a master. Paul McCartney gave him a bass guitar as a tribute. 🎸
