I just love Mo on that bass guitar. The man lays down one of the funkiest beats ever recorded. This song is just another example of why he is often considered the most musically talented of the trio. He played multiple instruments & was a master composer/producer. Musical genius runs deep in the Gibb clan. I'm sure I had heard their earlier stuff on the radio, just too young to remember those. But this song was the first time I remember being instantly captivated by the beat, then melody, then the vocals. I closely paid attention to the radio DJ when he said the song title & band name. I was 8 years old & that was the first time I became conscientiously aware of who The Bee Gees were. 😍 we never got tired of The Bee Gees, whether it was them singing or one of their amazing songs they wrote for other artists. I've been listening to them for almost 46 years - can never get enough of their music. Sadly, there is nothing like it these days.

Yes, Mo played bass and was GREAT at it!! I love the other guitar sound too ❤ No, they don't dance, by their own admission, but sometimes you can catch a little hip action☺ especially to You Win Again ❤ There are several documentaries re: Bee Gees!! Keppel Road is a really good one and the most recent is How Can You Mend a Broken Heart that documents their rise to superstardom and their broken hearts over the backlash from the disco crash. And they were never even a disco group, that title was given to them by the radio DJ's, they considered themselves blue-eyed soul/R&B.

The Bee Gees wrote and produced pver1,000 songs to include songs they wrote for Diana Ross, Dion Warrick, Celine Dion, Barbara Streisand, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton and even Michael Jackson. They have sold over 120 million records worldwide (with estimates as high as over 225 million records sold worldwide), making them among the best-selling music artists of all time. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997; the Hall's citation says, "Only Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Michael Jackson, Garth Brooks and Paul McCartney have outsold the Bee Gees." With nine number-one hits on the Billboard Hot 100, the Bee Gees are the third-most successful band in Billboard charts history behind only the Beatles and the Supremes. The Bee Gees are the 3 Brothers Gibb. Barry was born in 1946. Robin (long blond hair) and Maurice (pronounced Morris) are fraternal twins born in 1949. They started singing when Barry was 8 and the twins Maurice and Robin were 5 in 1958. Their first albums came out in the early 1960’s. Their career ran from 1958 to 2009. After 2009 Robin and Barry still produced music and albums but not under the Bee Gees. Their father was a drummer who had a band that played in clubs. Their mother was a dance hall singer. They started singing and playing their instruments as young children on the back of a pickup truck at the Sidney, Australia speedway for the coins tossed to them for spending money. The music producer Bill Gates saw them at the speedway and offered to manage them. Once the boys started getting a lot of gigs their father became their manager and the boys supported the family of 7 (Mother, father, Barry, the twins, a sister, and their younger brother Andy). When they were in their later teens they dropped out of school and eventually moved back to the UK where they were born. This was the same time as the Beatles phenomenon. The rest is history. The twins passed away, Maurice (1/12/2002) and Robin (5/20/2012). Barry is still alive at the age of 76, and still writing songs, performing, and putting out albums. One of the great things about the Bee Gees and their long career is that they were constantly growing and reinventing themselves. They have a younger brother Andy (born 3/5/1958) who performed on his own. The Bee Gees wrote songs for him and sometimes they all performed together. Andy was just as talented as his older brothers. Andy died in 3/10/1988 from inflammation of the years, as a result of a viral infection.

Thanks for your reaction! Yeah, Maurice (pronounced Morris) was a mean bass player. Barry on the rhythm guitar. The BeeGees were: the tallest and oldest brother (with the big hair and beard), Barry Gibb, born September 1, 1946, the only surviving Gibb brother. Robin Gibb (with the long hair, no beard), born December 22, 1949-passed away May 20, 2012, and Robin's fraternal twin brother Maurice (the balding brother with the beard, pronounced "Morris") Gibb, born December 22, 1949-passed away January 12, 2003. They also had another, younger, brother Andy Gibb, born March 5, 1958-passed away March 10, 1988. The three oldest brothers were born on the Isle of Man (UK). Oldest brother Barry got seriously burned when he accidentally pulled boiling tea over himself at 18 months old. He was in coma for a while, nearly died and was in hospital for many months. Because of this, he did not learn to talk until after the twins were born. Later the family moved to Manchester and from there they emigrated to Australia in 1958, right after Andy was born. Their musical career, which they had started as little kids, didn't lead to international success so they moved back to the UK in 1966. Then they had a string of big hits, until they temporarily broke up around 1970 for 15 months. Started back up, looking for a new sound which they first found in 1974 with the transitional album "Mr. Natural". After that "Main Course" was the first album that moved them into a new direction: more rhythm&blues, dance music like with great hits like Nights on Broadway and Jive Talkin'. From 1976 on they went all out with falsetto driven dance music which lead to their biggest commercial success as they provided classic songs for the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack (1977 Stayin' Alive, How Deep is Your Love, Night Fever amongst them). You should react to the 1979 live version of Stayin' Alive, too kzread.info/dash/bejne/aaKdurWhZ9m9gqw.html Other great songs to analyze: great album tracks from the 1979 Spirits Having Flown album, the title song: kzread.info/dash/bejne/iXyTzJtplqavm5c.html, the outrageously beautiful song Reaching Out kzread.info/dash/bejne/qJp8t7VufcmWYLQ.html. From their Still Waters album, Smoke and MIrrors: kzread.info/dash/bejne/f4ht2LSBg7q0ks4.html. From the 1960's I've gotta get a message to you kzread.info/dash/bejne/dXVopaundNG6m5s.html.

The Bee Gees were well-known in the early 70s, but then became Beatles-level popular in the late 70s and after that there was a huge backlash against disco, so it's nice to see it being appreciated again. People who lived at that time and say they never liked disco are lying. How Can You Mend a Broken Heart is one of my favorites.

The were internationally successful 1967 to 1968 (4 albums), split up then got back together in 1970 and had a couple of hits, and then were written off as a has been 60’s group. They went to Miami in 1974 to record, but DJ’s weren’t interested. Jive Talkin was sent out to DJ’s with a plain white label with only the song title. Within hours, the phones were ringing wanting to know who it was. I remember when it started playing on the radio. It was an instant hit. They had successfully reinvented themselves for a new generation, and dominated the charts through 1979..... and then we’re written off as a 70’s disco group, and couldn’t get played.... So they wrote and produced VERY SUCCESSFUL albums for others, and then came back again in 1987. At that point, the industry quit writing them off. Their 60’s stuff was more successful in Europe, because that’s the audience they targeted. Their 70’s stuff was more successful in the US than Europe. They again targeted the European market for their 80’s comeback. Barry does a little dancing in his video for ONE NIGHT FOR LOVERS that you can react to, and there are great compilation videos of Robin’s dance moves, but they didn’t do choreographed dancing.

The Bee Gees were really big in the UK and Europe in the 60’s with thousands of girls screaming for them, unfortunately not as big in the US. They broke up in 69 for 18 months when Robin left the group because he thought their manager Robert Stigwood preferred Barry, and got back together in late 1970. They then wrote How can you mend a broken heart that became a # 1 in the US for 4 weeks and Lonely days which reached to #3 in the US billboard. But after they got back together they just could not get back the momentum they had before they broke up. They moved to Miami and started recording and wrote Jive talkin’ a #1 Nights on Broadway, when Barry discovered his falsetto. Fanny (be tender with my love) from their Main course 1975 album, then to super stardom with Saturday night fever. Disco became so hated and The Bee Gees were caught up with it that radio stations refused to play their songs even though they were not disco. The documentary from HBO called How can you mend a broken heart is really good with a lot of inside into The Bee Gees.

Those vocals were originally the "scratch track" (throwaway), with the Gibbs intending to re-record vocal overdubs once all the instrumental tracks were laid down and mixed. But these original session vocals were so good, spontaneous and natural that the Brothers and their producer Arif Mardin decided to keep them. It really makes the song sound organic and "live."

The Bee Gees band that they recorded and toured with from about 1974-75 through 1980 were lead guitar Alan Kemble, drummer Dennis Bryon, and keyboardist Blue Weaver. Blue even shares writing credit on How Deep is Your Love. To answer your question, no they don't dance. You can see Robin "dance" on the Midnight Special clip of Jive Talking. Mo moves with more rhythm while he plays in some of the concerts. Barry doesn't even try, but he does keep rhythm well while playing. Saturday Night Fever was their high point as far as sales and global popularity go, but they were very popular when they first hit the charts in 1968. They have an amazing backstory. They started singing professionally as children. There are several documentaries on them on KZread. I thing "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" the documentary is still on HBO. Their earliest recorded appearance is from 1960 kzread.info/dash/bejne/q4J71ayTnNnMotI.html singing a song Barry wrote. They were 14 and 11 at the time.

This song came about while driving down the highway one day on the road...and the intro to this song sounded like the tires clicked over the road...which brought Barry to writing it!

You have got to hear the song Reachin out by the beegees. It is mind blowing and they sing the entire song very high in falsetto. No video just studio recorded. You will not be disappointed at all.

Thanks, MMB -- Robin was always my favorite... Maurice (they pronounce it "Morris") - was totally under-rated.. he not only played bass, but also keys, and any one of those bros could hit any of those notes on any day of the week... check out some of their later live stuff.. like "Massachusetts" -- (Robin was the lead on that one....)... look forward to more...

There is a documentary by hbo and they’re working on a biopic with Barry’s involvement. It seems that the film was derailed by COVID but they’re still pursuing it.

Right before Saturday Night Fever, they had a hit, Nights on Broadway, which was their pre-disco song. I think it was in 1975. They had many hits on the '60s, too, though.

Go on, discovering them and yes, they were one of the greatest groups ever if not in top of, by having all aspects in view. A biopic will come in 2023/2024. Also a book, Barry writes about their career over so many years, since being lil boys. Check'em out with 'Children Of The World' out of the same named album.

To answer a couple of your quesrions: I've seen them sway & bob but never seen them dance. A lot of their music they hover around the same mike or are playing instruments. Not seen any real dancing! Love them just the way they are!!! ❤❤❤ In the 60s they sounded more folky and some of their songs sounded like the Beatles. As Rock got inundated with grreat groups, their soft songs were not as in style or the latest trend anymore. Their ."Main Course" album got them attention again with this song Jive Talking and few others from this album, the best being "Nights on Broadway" ( just my opinion). Hope you react to that one! Love you sweetie!❤

Maurice and Barry can dance...Robin does too once in awhile. And Maurice pronounces his name with the accent on the first syllable, MAUR-iss. There is a film...How Do You Mend A Broken Heart, about the Bee Gees music and family, and I think, not sure, Barry was in on the writing. There are other documentaries about them, too...lots of them on KZread.
