    Andy Gibb is in a Live performance of the Bee Gees Song You Should Be Dancing! The beat to this Songcame from the BeeGees going over a Bridge and it would make that Sound. Originally the song was going to be called Drive Talkin.

    AMEN! This is the day the Lord hath made! 🙌 The Story of Jive Talkin': Barry got the beat from the sound the tires made going over a Florida Bridge everyday to and from Criteria Studios. Turns out that at exactly 35 mph, you get this rhythm, and "Drive Talkin'" came into his head with the melody. He called his brothers that night and the song was written THAT NIGHT. But Arif Mardin, their producer, suggested "Jive Talkin'". However, when he heard their lyrics, he realized they DIDN'T know what "jive" meant and had to explain it to them. It's REALLY funny to hear Mo tell this story! 🤣 They quickly changed the words!! Also, their manager released this record WITHOUT a band name on a plain label. ALL the D.J 's went CRAZY for the song and literally freaked out when they found out it was written and performed by the Bee Gee's, who had ONLY been known for ballads (the guys had always had R&B as their first love but were forbidden to play it "because of being white", as told to them by several record companies.) BTW, Mo's bass REALLY stands out in this as he had to step up his game - Arif worked on him very hard to improve and this was the FIRST TIME he didn't have to replay ANYTHING! He was high on that approval for weeks! 😊

    Actually their official bio "Tales from the brothers Gibb" said Robin heard the clacking sound on the bridge and said "Turn around and go back to the studio". He also heard "I started a joke" in the engines of a plane over Germany. Barry tends to change some of the stories as he did in the HBO documentary, LOL! As he said, I have my memories but Rob and Mo might have different ones. 🤣

    @@Zlata1313 - Macca was one of the best. A very melodic bassist. You could listen to his bass in isolation and know what the song was. The same with many of Ringo's drum beats. Very unique. There have been more technical and flashy bass players but he was the most melodic having first played guitar before having to switch to bass. Mo learned from a master.

    Although they already had two hits in the US with "I Started A Joke" and "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart", this was probably the first song from The Bee Gees that many of us heard regularly on the radio (1975).....always thought it was a cool, funky jam!

  • @miamidolphinsfan
    @miamidolphinsfan2 жыл бұрын

    The Bee Gees bought a mansion on Miami Beach in 1972 and that clackety-clack beat was the sound you heard coming from The Beach to mainland Miami on the Julia Tuttle Causeway....they did it every time they needed to record at the studio they owned in North Miami.

  • @beegeesbuster1
    @beegeesbuster12 жыл бұрын

    In the the years from 1972/73 until this came out Bee Gees as a group was at an alltime low. So they hooked up with the producer Arif Mardin. He produced their 1974 album Mr. Natural (great album in my opinion) which was not a great succes but showed promise of what to come. So in 1975 they went into the studio and recorded songs like this one, Nights On Broadway, Wind Of Change (one of my favorites) and Fanny (Be Tender With My Love). The first single was Jive' Talkin and because of the very low interest in The Bee Gees their manager Robert Stigwood decide to send the single out as a white label to the radio stations so they could not see the artist. The radio stations started to play the song and when it came out that it was infact the Bee Gees most of them just said "No way, you mean How Can You Mend A Broken Heart Bee Gees?" Many had had the idea that it most be a group of afro americans because white people could not make music like that. The song went on to be their second US number 1 after the 1971 How Can You Mend A Broken Heart. A note is that Maurice's basplaying on this one is just great.
