It's amazing how they switch their voices from a regular voice to a baritone and to falsetto in one song and it has many remarkable layers.

Maurice's voice is usually much deeper. Mo said that they had 4 voices....Maurice's, Barry's, Robin's and Barry and Robin together. Watch Nights on Broadway on the Midnight Special and you'll see Maurice take over the falsetto duties. Best group of singer/songwriters ever!

They said in an interview that Mau would often take the highest voice, actually. But they all did at times, especially Barry. It’s Barry’s falsetto that is famous. But I think Mau is taking that highest voice at the end. I think the fact that they seem to have so many answers to who took what role is a testament to just how it sounds - they were all capable of singing wherever, and did so using natural harmony, fitting their voices wherever it was needed. That’s why they’re so crazily remarkable and in sync. Perfect, natural, effortless harmony. It was the same behind the scenes, they were always arguing about who would be the lead. Barry took the lead most of the time. And the world recognized Barry as the lead. It actually caused the other two brothers a lot of jealousy, because they wanted to be lead. Especially Robin. Apparently Robin and Barry never got along, and Mau had to be the mediator. But what’re you going to do, Barry just had a lead singer’s kind of voice. Not to mention he had the movie star looks.

Maurice : Was the Multi task Musician , he was the brains behind Nights On Broadway , he also play with a Philharmonic Orchestra in London and he play several instruments , they used to call him “ man in the middle “ these 3 guys were awesome and fantastic “ and their brother Andy also , with time everybody acknowledges that these 3 guys were the Best composer (?they arranged more than 300 songs and wrote music for many singers , how sad that Andy , Robin and Maurice left when they were too young. Now, everybody a knowledge that these guys were geniuses out of this world , they were the best .

The vocal layering of this song is so beautiful. It always makes me think of this quote from Maurice Gibb: “One of us is OK, two of us is pretty good, but three of us together is magic.” ❤ Really looking forward to seeing you react to their 60s music. It’s so good!

The way they blend their voices is magical. Many times when either Barry or Robin take lead you think you’re hearing just one voice but it’s actually Barry and Robin together and then Maurice comes in and the sound is magical. Fanny(Be Tender With My Love) is just extraordinary. Please react to LOVE SO RIGHT. I just love your great reactions thank you. ❤❤❤❤

Maurice was the peacemaker and was comfortable with writing, arranging the music and playing instruments and letting Barry and Robin shine in the lead. Although without his harmonies the music is not as good. It took all 3 of them. He does however do the lead and more regularly as they got older.

They were Awesome : Barry was the oldest and The main singer, Robin was the one in the center Without a guitar or an instrument But he was an excellent singer . Maurice (. They called him The Multi Musician , he was the one on the left hand side all the time and he was a genius , he played guitar , piano and several instruments , besides he played Cassical Music with an Orchestra , He was the Brains for : Nights on Broadway , Man on The Middle , and this one that many people think is the most beautiful song and a Master Piece : Fanny Be Tender with my love , the 3 of them were geniuses but the hidden mega Genius was Morris the one that plays the guitar here and the piano in Nights on Broadway. He used to wear a hat most of the time because he was loosing his hair and he was very young , Enjoy these 3 incredible multi musicians and Awesome multi Singers . The Brothers Gibb The Bee Gees . Notice that Maurice (. Morris ) Is the one with the guitar and he goes from falceto to baritone first and then his 2 brothers do the same , incredible blending of 3 Awesome incredible voices .

They're so tight they almost sound polyphonic or even overtone singing. Like three voices in one. Don't apologize for pausing. It's the only way we can hear your reaction and you don't miss any part of the song. Good reaction.

Good catch hearing Robin and Barry singing shared lead! Mo said the Bee Gees had four voices: Barry's, Robin's, his own, and Barry's and Robin's together. As others have probably said, this was never sung live because of too many layers of their voices. They all sang on this one and from baritone through falsetto as they all had that range. It is not always easy to determine who's singing, but here's a little help: Barry had a breathy quality at times and a tremolo, Robin had an absolutely perfect natural vibrato and a vulnerable quality to his voice. Mo usually filled in on harmonies with the other two generally taking lead or now and then sharing it (like here). This is their mother's favorite song of theirs and possibly because you can hear their distinct voices better here. They shared a microphone oftentimes when recording too which doesn't help tease apart their voices.

IMO, they are the most talented group, & exceptional singers of all time! Maurice (pronounced MAUR-iss) is the high voice. Robin's voice is so unique, you'll learn to hear it in the mix, he also does falsetto (like Barry). Maurice has songs of his own...like "Man In The Middle" and "Closer Than Close" and "Lay It On Me". Robin has leads and has his own songs, also..."Massachusetts" which is outstanding, and "I Started A Joke", "Ellan Vannin". Not one of these guys is "better" than the others...they are three brothers. The older one is Barry who sings most of the leads, Maurice and Robin are fraternal twins, they are 3-4 years younger than Barry. He was the big brother and since they first started working when the twins were only 7, Barry got his way til Maurice and Robin started to want their own leads. that was in the late 50's early 60's...then Barry began seeing them as equals, not little kids. BTW...none of them ever had a single music lesson, and they taught themselves to play all kinds of musical instruments, and none of them could read or write music...they not only wrote all their own songs, they wrote for people like Otis Redding and Barbara Streisand and a ton more people, and they produced their music. Busy little Bees (Gees. lol) Listen to one of my fave songs..."Alone"...Robin and Barry share the lead. It makes my heart happy that you're reacting to the Bee Gees. They are the most prolific songwriters of all time...

I agree, it’s like ping pong, who’s singing what. Barry was the lead vocal the majority of the time, and Robin said he was the middle, and often Mau would go the highest. Mau would just go wherever he was needed. Barry was famous for the falsetto, though. But I liked when Barry would use his natural voice, which he did at times here. Yeah, they could all switch back and forth between natural and falsetto. Sometimes they’d sing whole songs in falsetto.

There’s a website called Range Planet that’s associated somehow with Ringo Starr that has documented highs and lows. All three of them have wide ranges, with Barry hitting the highest and the lowest notes of the three of them, with his lowest being an A1 which is the lowest note on the piano. One of his songs with notable lows is I’LL KISS YOUR MEMORY.

  • @lauraallen55

Barry did not have the biggest range from what I 've read. The lowest note the Bee Gees collectively sang was in Massachussetts which would make Robin have the lowest.

Actually it is Barry and Robin…even though they are displaying Robin. Per Mo ( Maurice/ pronounced Morris) they use that blended voice a lot. Another artist you might want to check out is Cliff Richard , ( Devil Woman, we don’t talk anymore, dreaming, Everyman, move it, etc.) he has songs from 1958 through the present…just like the BeeGees had song from 1958 through the early 2000’s before Mo died.
