Can we just talk about Maurice's great bassline in this song? Yeah the brothers Gibb were beyond talented. They could go into a studio in the morning and come out with five songs by the afternoon. They wrote and performed most of the songs in one of the best selling albums of all time, "Saturday Night Fever" for the movie, "Saturday Night Fever" - really good movie, by the way. Their documentary is excellent too, giving you their whole musical history.

The Bee Gees made music together spanning 6 decades. They’re from the UK but immigrated to Australia with their family in the late 50s and began performing together as children. They moved back to the UK in 1967 to be part of the British explosion and had their first top 10 hit, New York Mining Disaster, within 6 months of their arrival. Some of their other great songs from that era are To Love Somebody, Massachusetts, and I Started a Joke. Other disco era songs you should check out are Nights on Broadway, You Should Be Dancing, and Tragedy. Happy listening! ✌🏼

Technically they aren't from the U.K. they were born on the Isle of man. a small island in between Ireland and England and not part of the United Kingdom. they did move to Manchester (Chorlton) a few miles from where I grew up, but were advised by the police to take move to Australia to keep them out of trouble.

My Dad told me a story about his coworker that came into work one day wearing a polyester shirt. You know the kind with the big collar and the puffy sleeves back in the day. Well he worked at the steel plant, he was standing in front of furnace door and it was lifted open. All you could hear was Floof!! There was nothing left of his shirt but cuffs and the collar rofl. Good thing he was wearing wool underneath.

Grew up listening to these wonderful brothers. The Bee Gees, like the Jackson 5 started singing when they were very young so they had been singing nearly 20 years when this came out. If you want something a bit different from them, try "CLOSER THAN CLOSE" with Maurice Gibb as lead. Also, they had a younger brother named Andy who had a successful solo career. His songs include "LOVE is THICKER THAN WATER", "I JUST WANT TO BE YOUR EVERYTHING", and "SHADOW DANCING". RIP Andy, Maurice, and Robin. Barry Gibb is the only survivor of the amazing "Brothers Gibb".

The Bee Gees and Andy Gibb were ALL brothers and of the few, if only, who embraced funk, soul and R&B and we're successful for it. So, no matter a person's skin color, you've got to appreciate their mark on the World and no matter the listeners of their music, their music goes past color. Exhibit A.

Fun fact: this song's distinctive catchy beat came from when they were driving across a big bridge where the road was divided crossways into segments; they noticed every time the wheels went over the joints between them there was a clicking sound, that created this unusual rhythm. Millions of people must have passed over that bridge before them, but it took a musical genius to notice and turn it into a great song!

Hi Greg, the Bee Gees were a lot identified with the Disco wave era, because they did amazing music at the end of the 70's, for movies with John travolta, etc; but they did a great evolution in their music and sound, from their beginnings where Disco music was a stage. This is a great song before that. Another band that you may like is the ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) that, at the same time of the Bee Gees, also did great hits like Last Train to London, Don't bring me Down or All Over the World (my favorite). But they also came from a different style which was the progressive experimental rock, with a lot of violins, piano and cellos, and previous beautiful songs. Regards from Chile!

ELO at Wembley Stadium 2017 is a live concert broken down into several videos. Jeff Lynne was like 70 years old but he sounds exactly like he did back in the 1970s. The band is hot, the music is awesome and the videos show a lot of the audience. They are having such a great time.

No Greg, they aren't thinking like this anymore. Brilliant observation. The creativity of the 70's may never be matched again. This is why music from this era is "sampled" so much by todays musicians. 60's-80's was a musical renaissance. These things happen ever century or two.

Your comment about writers aren’t writing songs as they were in the 60’s and 70’s is right on. Both the music and the lyrics were very thought out. No just screaming and repeating a phrase over and over. I think that’s why classic rock of the era is still played all over. There were so many great groups. They had to produce great music or they would fade from the charts really fast. One song you might want to listen to is “Elenor Rigby” by the Beatles. Great poetry.

Another Bee Gee's banger that blew people away! In fact, lots of people REFUSED to believe it was the Bee Gee's when it was first released. Barry got the idea for this song from the rhythm he heard from the tires going over a bridge in Florida twice a day that was next to Criterion Records where they recorded. Originally, it was "Drive Talkin" LOL. It changed to "Jive Talkin", and they meant the dance "Jive". Their producer had to clue them in on what the word "Jive" meant here in the USA - that's when the lyrics changed substantially! 😂
