    I've also seen a thing or 2 on sitting. I built an 89 f250 from a 250 chassis and f150 power train. Made one truck fron 2. On its maiden voyage I went for a load of firewood 8 miles from home. On load 2, I threw the serpentine belt on it. With no parts riding behind the seat yet I walked a mile to get cell reception and waited for rescue. Then 2 weeks later my trusty 90 bronco 2 blew a coolant hose and spewed out all fluids. Had to wait on rescue there too. The luckiest I got was 3 months ago the clutch went out on my ranger right when I pulled into the driveway after work at 2am. Then the next night the brand new gates waterpump on the 300 gave up the ghost after 6 months. I really should have videoed that week. I just can't make it up.

    I’m definitely loving the new car for sure!!! I’m also very happy to see that you are finding old cars that have been off the roads for anywhere from 10 years or more and just doing a little work on them to get them back on the road!!! Heck and even taking them on a long road trip to show others that just because they have been off the road for a long time doesn’t mean that with a little hard work and just a little extra money that it definitely can be done!!! The one thing that you’re awesome station wagon is missing is a rear end with a posi unit in it for sure!!! If you go changing the rear gears well you might as well go with a posi unit witch I definitely think it deserves it for sure!!! I absolutely hate when someone goes to do a burn out and just one tire spins!!! It’s definitely more empressive to see an old car have both tires leave there mark on the pavement and leave a nice rubber lines going down the road!!!

    My father had a '78 Town Car with a 460. We attended an air show in '81. Traffic crawled out of the event. The temperature that day was 90+. It was maybe 20 minutes into the drive when my dad's idiot light came on letting him know the engine was overheating. It took him all of 10 to seconds pull the hood release lever, throw the temperature selector to full hot, and roll down all the windows. After another 20 sweltering minutes, traffic was moving fast enough to resume normal cruising conditions. Yes, he shut the hood.

    You can use a fan on the front. A descent manufacture will rate it in CFM for inlet or outlet or something like that. A fan like the first one he had with a larger shroud is almost always a puller. The second one he ended up using is a universal that would work just fine on the inlet side. Inlet fans are very common on cars where space is a issue.

    That VR1 is great oil for a flat tappet motor. Happy to see you promoting its use. You’re one of the few that understands the different types of zinc and why diesel oil is a bad idea for a gas motor.

  • @prevost8686

    @prevost8686

    22 күн бұрын

    Most CK4 Diesel oils now have what they call “dual technology ZDDP so the big fleets with diesel and gas equipment can stock one oil. A leader in this is Valvoline. Rotella is also following suit as well as others. The issue with most heavy duty oils is not that they have the “wrong ZDDP “ but they just don’t have enough ZDDP anymore. CK4 oils are topping out at approximately 1000-1100ppm of ZDDP. That’s borderline low for flat tappet gas engines with stock valve springs and much too low for heavier higher pressure springs and radical cams. Most blenders agree that around 1600ppm of ZDDP is the sweet spot for most flat tappet engines. That’s about where VR1 and Royal Purple’s HPS version are testing in used oil analysis. Obviously too much ZDDP can cause issues of their own. Valvoline has been supplying NASCAR’s Cup teams with oil for years and they know what they’re doing. Also when they say that their HD fleet oils have the correct ZDDP to protect a stock gas engine with roller cams I believe them. My 12.7 Detroit Diesel and my gas powered Silverado have both been running the same fleet oil for years and they both have mega miles on them with no issues.

    @@prevost8686 Nice. Had no idea that dual service rated oils existed now. Too much ZDDP is definitely bad as well. I cringe when I see videos of people pouring tons of off the shelf ZDDP additive in an old engine.

  • @prevost8686

    @prevost8686

    22 күн бұрын

    @@matth5309 I’ve used Risolone ZDDP (blue/gray bottle) and they have great information on how much to add to achieve the ideal ppm. Unfortunately a lot of people feel that if 1/2 bottle per 5qts of oil is good then a whole bottle must be better. Risolone ZDDP is a great product for someone that doesn’t want to try to order high ZDDP engine oil like VR1 etc but it needs to be mixed at the correct ratio to achieve around 1600ppm . I can buy it for roughly $8 bucks a bottle and one bottle easily handles two oil changes so I’m essentially adding $4 to the cost of the low ZDDP oils available everywhere. That works out better for me. I’ve also done the used oil analysis the ZDDP levels are where Risolone claims that they will be. Risolone certainly isn’t the only ZDDP additive out there but it’s a good product and foolproof if you follow their mixture ratios.

    Probably my favorite car so far! You gotta vent that fuel tank. The return line isn't enough, you still need to compensate for the fuel that makes it to the carb. I had that same problem on a bike and I had to remove the tank cap gasket. Solved the issue of dying after a good run and getting back to life after a while.

    What a bitchin' wagon! Pro tip: those 70’s 460’s came with SEVERELY retarded cam timing. Replacing the timing set with an aftermarket one and advancing the cam 4-6 degeees or so will transform it into a tire fogging beast that will get decent milage.
