This week on Stay Tuned, a feller from Vice Grip Garage stops by to hang out at the Stay Tuned shop! Tony Angelo and Derek Bieri play a little gameshow called "ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?!" where they guess list pricing on Facebook Marketplace ads chosen at random. TONS of fun was had, cold snacks consumed, and we really show that the market is the WILD WEST! Check it out on STAY TUNED!

Could by a mid 60s muscle car in the mid to late 70s for 500 to 700 bucks...folks who had them started to sell due to the oil embargo ...and the gas prices went up ( but still cheap then)...and they started to drop the octanes and phase out the lead in the gas which made the muscle cars start to knock and ping and run like crap.

IT was a 1961, supposedly. It was all wrong.
3 years ago I bought a 2008 Nissan Altima with a 3.5 l V6 and a 6-speed manual transmission for $500 and I've been hooning it ever since
I bought a complete and(kinda) running 2dr '69 Nova with a 307/th350 for $600 in 1992. It was the quintessential grandma car with a bench seat but power steering/power disk brakes and ZERO rust or rot. There was only 1 tiny rip in the headliner. I built a 327 for it, swapped in a 4.10 8.5 from a '74, installed buckets with a console and floor shifter before having it repainted in the body shop at my HS. I sold that car for $3K and used $2500 to buy a 402/4 speed '71 Camaro SS with a bad cam/lifter. Looking back at the cars I had and what I let them go for vs what they might sell for today is depressing. The Nova, the Camaro, an SVO Mustang, an '86 notchback with an Incon TT 331 stroker.... People are asking $5K+ for malaise era Nova rollers with rotted floor pans and often more for ragged out twisted to hell fox bodies with no interiors. No wonder kids are building FWD imports.

GMC 1 ton dually flatbed, red, 350, 4 bbl, 4 speed manual w/granny gear, 9' flatbed, no rust, $700. 1950 panhead in a modified trike frame, non-running, but complete, $500. Oh yeah, I had 75 and 77 Camaros too, around 84. Oh, and in 86 I picked up a 57 Chevy Belair, orange and white, 4 speed 283 for a grand. These are just a few of the great deals around back then. To put this in perspective, I was only making $300-$400/week as a landscaper back then. So one weeks pay could get you a nice quality musclecar , decent truck or van. Try that today. I burned through about 30 cars, trucks, and vans by the time I was 30 years old and have had about 25 more since then. I feel sorry for you young guys. You'll be old guys before you can afford the awesome cars we drove in the 70's and 80's.

It's absolutely true... My family had a restoration shop from the 1980s until the early 2000s down in Houston, Texas. None of us were ready for the day when old cars just jumped from being $1500 to being $15,000 ... But it happened and it put us out of business with the restoration aspect. I never ever never ever NEVER thought I'd see the day when the stripped out, snot green, four door, six cylinder Whatsit that the nuns down at the convent used as a grocery getter, would be considered "a classic" and carry a price tag of $25,000.00 Never. I picked up my 69 gto back in 92' for 3500.00😮😮😮😮 it was clean and ran good and looked quite good, not a rusted out pile, had very very little rust. We picked up my dads 67' pontiac lemans for 600.00 in mid 90's from st vincent de Paul. Was owned by one lady until she passed away. Was 💯 % original with 326 and a 2 speed, white with black vinyl top and black interior and had 90k original miles, had a pencil dot of rust under vinyl top and was very solid. During resto i found change from 67' under back seat and the build sheet...so cool! Ended up with a jim butler 474 stroker with 600 plus horse and a th400 along with a 12 bolt, ran 10's and was a beast!! You guy's 🪨!!!!
You should see prices over in Washington state . Freaking stupid . Great fun video

Where I live here in Texas I have to drive like 500 miles to get good deals. I’ve gone to super rural Oklahoma and Kansas to make decent deals It’s crazy

It's a mess right now, for sure, and if you find one, getting hands on it is real hard.
No shid! A whole day early! Let's go!

Mickey Rupp just recently passed away, the company was in my hometown. Lots of Rupp mini bikes growing up in the 70's.
Here in New York it has been 35 or more years since car prices went insane!! In 1989 I met a guy in Newark Valley New York, who was trying to sell a 1965 Mustang sitting in a field with an inline 6 cylinder, and had been off the road since 1975 for $22,000!! AND there wasn't even a straight panel on the car!! I met another guy, in Owego NY selling a 1963 Buick Station wagon, in 2009, that had been off the road for 30 years, had a broken frame who was asking $35,000 for his car too!! My point is there is no shortage around here of people assuming "Junk" is worth wildly more than what it is actually worth!! And every guy in my area thinks they have a "rare car" just because it is over ten years old!!
I am soooo glad you guys did this video!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought that I was the only one who sees these crazy ads!!!!!!!!!! Prices are stupid on FB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GREAT job guys!!!! Do this again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tony the best part about the 69 charger on the frame jig is I bought that car last year for $800. I kept sheetmetal and other little things for my general lee and then resold it 3 days later for $2200 the way you see it now
It's not just cars. It's boats and just about any hobby items. Oh and 100% seeing or hearing "investment" on any hobby item I just slowly and awkwardly back away. 🤣
great episode...the chemistry you guys are developing is a testament to your combined passion of all things horsepower n rowdy related...if it's any consolation...up north of the 54th parallel...car prices are just as bananas here as they are down south... keep up the great work guys you too Barb...
FYI. RUPP Grand Prix's restored with the correct engines routinely sell for $8,000-$10,000, with the twin engines being in the higher price range. I think if you had the skills to restore, and could buy this for $3000 and do the rest of the resto yourself to a high level of quality, you could make $3000. IF you just pay to have everything done, at that price, plus all the work you'll have done, you will end up with just as much in it as the cost to buy one already restored. The issue I had with the price is hat the entire front end looks wrong for a 1962 RUPP. It looks like something has been Frankensteined there. Which means more money to make it original. I think that is what makes it overpriced. For the extra work and parts that the front end would need to be correct, the $1600 is probably closer to the true value.
I absolutely love this. You turned our day-to-day hobby into a game show because all of us on here do the exact same thing every single day from our couch. Also, Tony, I’ve been watching you since you were on the roadkill shows I’m am super happy that you have this show now and Derek is definitely my favorite KZreadr. I love your guises chemistry. Keep it up. You guys should do a roadkill style revival with a road trip.
Two years ago I bought a 1972 Dart swinger. Body in decent shape, no engine no trans or hood with a good set of slot rims and still the original yellow and black paint which is also decent. $1200 and the guy selling it was absolutely awesome. Since then I've seen hot garbage darts that probably wouldn't make it on the trailer without falling apart for up to 8000. I blame those high end car auctions and a few hyped up tv shows for everyone on marketplace knowing what they got. This video was absolutely hilarious btw, would love to see more like it
This is amazingly good content. You two need to do more of this type of stuff. I completely busted out laughing on numerous occasions. Thank you both.
Tony! I am stoked to see the number of views on this, just awesome! Great format and concept. Love it!

Awesome! Thank you!
Back in the mid 2000s I was offered a twin turbo manual Supra in nice condition for... £5000 (About $7500). Mind you, i've owned nice cars that have rocketed in value literally weeks after selling them, but the 'keepers' are still worthless!🤣
Holy shit this is probably the best show I’ve seen and God knows how long. You guys totally need to start either your own channel or your own little spin off with both of you as host What’s better than a little Italian guy from the Northeast and a big Burley guy from the Midwest teamed up to make awesome content You guys have great chemistry Face to garage You can call it vice tune garage This is coming from somebody who grew up up in the northeast on Long Island and translated down to North Carolina because of my love and passion for cars You guys rock can’t wait for the upcoming Collabs
This video makes me appreciate Derek's simplistic editing SO much more
doing shows like this may be the only thing we have left to get people to lower these insane prices! Im here for it
This is exactly what the internet needs!! Thank you
So much fun to watch! Thank you guys!
Love this video. It was very entertaining. Thanks guys.
Best entertainment I've had in a while. THANKS! You guys are so spot on with your views of the crazy market!
North Dakota Meets New Jersey! One of the best youtube segments I have seen in quite some time. Well done gentlemen!
“It’s a 1957 Bel Air” “Well for starters it isn’t a Bel Air based on the trim.” Savage!! Love ya Derek. Just shut’em down.
When I was a teen in the 60s..you could practically buy any used car from the car lot that was 5 yrs old for under a $ 1000.... T birds , Caddies, and muscle cars.
I love watching Tony and Derek together! Nonstop entertainment 😂
I really hope you guys can do this show weekly. Just do like a zoom call so it's possible!! Awesome show. Best entertainment this week.
Glad that you found something that works for you and fam without loosing the people that love to watch and work with you. Sounds like the years of hard work and experience you put in are starting to line up and somehow we all benefit. Keep going as long as you have passion for it.
I enjoyed this way more than I was expecting too! you guys together are a killer combo. Also credit to the editor, had me rolling with laughter a few times there 😂
Its the same reason every single house on the market is $100k over. Our dollar is gone, middle class is gone.
That was absolutely hilarious. And awesome. I know you guys are busy, but you could make a version of this a week and it would never get old!!
I can't get over how crazy things have gotten in the past few years... When I was 18 (in 1976) I bought a 1950 Oldsmobile "Futuramic" 88 for $50 and got it running the next day. I drove it for a summer, and sold it for $400 in the fall. I guess I should have bought some late 60s cars and stashed them away!
Back in 2019, I almost bought a brush truck as an impulse purchase for $5k. It was a local fire department's 1980 GMC Sierra with the 454 and less than 15k miles. The price for that full size pumper is more than reasonable and fire truck prices haven't changed since before the pandemic.
