In 1996, I found and bought a 1973 Torino with 29,400 original miles. It was like new, garage kept, factory belts and hoses were still on it. Paint code 2B bright red, base model with exceptions of 351W, FMX, sport gauges with tach, power disc brakes, power steering. Interior was base black bench seat. I installed rear sway bar, gas shocks, 15" x 8" wheels with fat radials, dual Flowmaster exhausts, and then drove it daily for the next 20 years without any major problems. Gave it to my son about 5 years ago because he is a better mechanic than I am. He was with me when I found it, age 5, and he grew up riding in it daily. I will always love these cars. Congrats on getting yours.

One man's barn find...is another man's barn find a few years later because the first guy bought so many cars that he can't fix them all. The KZread car community is amazing with the way so many different channels work together on different things. It's cool that Kevin had a car that you really wanted just sitting in his barn and was happy to pass it along to you instead of just keeping it as a long term project for his own channel. Enjoy.
You and Kevin take me back to the sixties when we would do this stuff to the 40's and 50's cars ,Just wanted to thank both of you guys for keeping it real !! I'm in my mid 70's now and it nice to dream of when !!
My dad was selling Ford cars back in the 70s and he got to bring home demos and one stood out was a Starsky and Hutch Torino that he was delivering to a customer so he took it home with him . This was a special model because in this year you were able to order it with a standard transmission and a 460 , It was a great time to be alive ,that thing was crazy fast .
What I appreciate is that you do not just pull a vehicle out of a tree row, make it barely limp to your shop and then park it forever. I want to do this some day and make it reliable. You are great narrator and your boy has a personality which is awesome. So yes, take us along when you make this Torino better and betterer.

The guy you are referring to is barn sour, lol that's like when a horse will run towards the barn but won't run the other direction , Derek will drive any car home no matter how far the mileage. but have you ever noticed when he leaves his vehicle has to have an LS motor in it and all kinds of upgrades done. I realize those are his cars he can do whatever he wants but in my opinion he's not enjoying most of them. That's why I enjoy. Dalton and his show he is a road warrior ,a lot like me if you build a car you should be able to hop in it and go anywhere any direction as far as you want without worrying about a breakdown, And if something breaks? so what ,fix it and keep going
Congratulations on your new ride. There's not a car lover alive who doesn't understand the joy you're experiencing with your bucket list car. When I watch you and your son working together, it makes me smile. You're not just making memories you're strengthening his love for cars. He's doomed to a life of being a gearhead.
My mother and my uncle drove Gran Torinos and I forgot how much I enjoyed those cars. Smoking the cigarette at the end was just how I remembered living in those cars. Keep the Gran Torino videos coming!
That blue deck lid, then black hood scoop, and hood---I love it! It pops awesome. You've seen Mopars with similar scemes and patterns, but it looks great on that Torino, great combination color-wise. It lets your eye go, "It's blue, but wait, it's black up front, then white stripes on the sides!" Dalton, you're so cool, man.
I just wanted to say that I love the content and the way you involve your son in everything you do he's going to have such good memories of the time you spent together if there is any justice your channel is going to be massive good luck in the future.
JD is always the voice of maturity and reason. Cant believe he hangs out with yall! 🤣🤣🤣
I’ve also found that Rustoleum is the best spray paint unless you get the expensive custom mixed stuff at a paint store if you’re tryin to color match sumthin. The absolute BEST spray paint for coating a truck frame is the Rustoleum “Professional High Performance Enamel” paint. It’s a little better than regular Rustoleum, and it’s a million times better than any of the rubber undercoating in a can. I’ve used it for years now and it’s the only thing that has survived salty winters. The undercoating in a can is the absolute worst junk I’ve tried, it might work in some situations but salty roads make that crap flake off almost immediately.
Ah, the memories. My first car was a '73 Gran Torino Sport that I purchased in 1989, just before I graduated from high school. It had a 351 Cleveland and an FMX transmission. IT'S COOL THAT YOU LET THE KID DRIVE. I STARTED DRIVING WHEN I WAS 7. 1968 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER WAS THE FIRST OUT IN THE DESERT. THEN OTHER CARS AS WELL THAT MY PARENTS HAD. 1974 ROLLED AROUND AND MY MOM BOUGHT HER FIRST 1970 BOSS 302 MUSTANG AFTER HER DIVORCE. I WAS 12 AND SHE WOULD LET ME DRIVE IT IN RURAL WADDELL AZ. SHE WOULD TELL ME TO HAMMER IT AS WELL. THE FASTEST I DROVE IT WAS 120. HER SECOND BOSS 302 WAS A STRIPPED MODEL, AS THE FIRST ONE WAS LOADED WITH THE OPTIONS. BUT THE SECOND ONE WAS PROFESSIONALS BUILT AT THE PIT STOP IN SCOTTSDALE, AZ. IT WAS A BEAST. IT WOULD COMPLETELY ANNIHILATE THE FIRST ONE WITH EASE. HER FIRST BOSS 302 SHE HAD SHE TRADED OFF TO HER FRIENDS 72 4X4 SCOUT. SHE SOLD THE SCOUT 2 MONTHS LATER FOR A 45% PROFIT AND WENT OUT AND BOUGHT THE SECOND BOSS 302. WELL HE BLEW UP THE BOSS AFTER DISCONNECTING THE REV LIMITER. BUT HIS LUKE AFB FRIEND BUILT IT BACK UP PRETTY DANG STRONG.
I was 16 when that car came off the assembly line. I always thought it had great lines, except that dumb 5 mph front bumper. But it is in great shape for 50 years!

My first car, back in 1979 when I was 16, was a dark green metallic 1973 Gran Torino Sport with a white vinyl roof. It had a factory reflective stripe that went from light green at the front to dark green at the back. It also had the 351 Cleveland and factory chrome mags, a little different style than your magnums. This vid REALLY took me down memory lane! Looking forward to more content on it in the future!!

That is so cool that you got your dream car, I felt your excitement throughout the video. And the fact that Kevin just "happened" to have it hidden away just waiting for you, it was like it was meant to be. That turned out great, as I was watching I wanted to suggest the method I used on my 77 F-250, I used doller store oven cleaner on the spray paint, let it sit a few minutes then hit it with a pressure washer. It worked pretty good and much faster. Then what was left I used the scotch brite pad method like you did. Thankfully I only had to do the cab and front clip, lol as the bed isn't original and not the same color, "yet". Hopefully that tip helps you out on future projects. Keep that smile ear to ear sir and enjoy that new ride. 😁
Had a friend that had an orange version of this car it looked pretty awesome. Back in the day, Torinos were everywhere as were their cousins like the LTDII and Cougars. Had a 75 Cougar which was basically the same car. Starsky and Hutch made the Torinos very popular.

I love how this channel epitomizes my thoughts on car ownership. "Cars can be just as cool and loved with scratches, rust, dents, spray paint and Dollar tree cleaners." I have just as much passion and enthusiasm for my beat up, well used cars as the people with trailered in, 200 original miles, time capsules that never truly get to feel the open road and have ketchup stains in the upholstery from getting burgers on a Friday night with your friends. Another homerun! I got to tell you I like these will it make it home videos. But now you got some projects I want to see completed.
I bought a 1973 Gran Torino (2-door, with 351 "Cleveland" V-8) after my beloved 1967 Mustang got totaled by a drunk driver. My Torino wasn't the fastback, though. I'm glad you like it, I hope you are happy with it. Mine was really, truly, far & away the WORST car I ever owned (and I once owned a 1974 Vega!). I was about to go back to college, I HAD to have wheels. ANY wheels. Huge on the outside, only so-so interior space. Handled like a barge. Guzzled gas INCREDIBLY. Rusted like crazy. Fragile cloth seats. I was FINALLY able to unload it for $600 a couple of years later. But HEY, "Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln..." Still, I can tell you're happy, that's what counts. Best wishes!
Exactly what Kevin said:: To all you hoarders out there!! Put the car in someone else hands whom will actually do something with it!! THANK YOU, and finally someone spoke straight up.
I had a coworker that has a 73 as well. Helped him with the body off restoration. I had the GT-37 at the place we where working at. It was interesting to see how close in design the two cars are.
The excitement and joy you showed is awesome. Love what you've done with your Torino so far, especially the rims. Can't wait to see more of the Torino.
'72-73 Gran Torino Sport was my dream car when they were new, I was a junior/senior in high school. I never got one, but a buddy bought a nice '73 Gran Torino Sport with the Q-code 351 out of college in '76.
Awesome car man! Love it! I will never forget the times when my dad let me drive all those years ago. Real car and real life. Cheers
Both Kevin and Dalton won. Kudos!
straight into daily use! love seeing the older cars getting used
Never heard of anybody lusting after a 73 Torino before, but I like it. I had a 73 in high school, metallic green, with a whit vinyl top, 302, and a C4. Had some good times in that car.
Great car! I had one when I was 16 (I'm 62 now). Long story short: My dad owned a Ford dealership (I was the Lot Boy). At dinner one night, he says "We just took in trade a Gran Torino Sport...you should go look at it." I bolted from the table, jumped into my 70 Nova 4-dr, 3-on-the-tree six-banger, and sped (??) down to the dealership. As I'm getting out of the car, I see a salesman SHOWING the car to some guy. I yelled "THAT'S NOT FOR SALE...I'M DRIVING IT". At the time, I thought nothing of it...THAT was gonna be MY car. Looking back...yeah...I was THAT PUNK KID AT DADDY'S DEALERSHIP. The salesman (if he's still alive) probably still holds a grudge for me for beating him out of that sale. Moral of the story: THAT CAR WAS AWESOME!!!! 🤣😂
“You can’t do something wrong correctly until you know how to do it right” makes way more sense than it should!
Did you see the Ranchero that Chris at NNKH Offered as a special deal to you? Would make a fabulous stable-mate for this Torino in the barn bud!
Now that's a nice ride Wish they still built them the old way full of definition and fine lines and most were built in the good ole USA with pride
This guy is hilarious when he is out of his element, riding snowmobiles, 3 wheelers, etc..
The smile on Dalton face is just priceless @Junkyard Digs @Pole Barn Garage

JD with the save, bringing the gloves was genius! I love these videos. Makes my hopeful to find and work on my own car bucket list someday, and work on what I currently have. You are an inspiration sir!
Cool channel ,very entertaining. Love seeing the old cars have a second chance in life! More of the Torino would be awesome ,one of my favourite classics🤘
Here is the deal on bumpers for 73 and 74. NHTSA required front absorption bumpers in front only for model year 73. The rear absorption bumper was not required for 73 but it was in 74. This gave manufactures an extra year to comply with both. Some manufactures just went ahead and did both in 73 but the back bumper was not required until 74. I owned a 73 Torino just like that one with the 351 Cleveland engine!
I remember going with my grandmother to pick up her brand new73 429 Gran Torino, and driving up to the cottage where she impressed me with my first 100mph drive whilst listening to the latest Tammy Wynette . I was a very impressed 11 year old .

Had kept it maintained, suspension, etc. had dual exhaust conversion with 'cherry bomb' glass packs I burned out the 1st week I owned it, travelled in my new job with that car, then went to either company cars or leased them, planned to go to front bucket seats from a '69 Firebird, and a center console shifter, maybe hang a clutch pedal and go to a 4-speed. Nice rare car fellas. Look, two things get rid of those leaves on the cowl under the wipers. That is stopping the air from coming into the passenger compartment. Many people overlook this, or don't know what that means. 2nd " THE A/C DON'T WORK. PROLLY JUST NEEDS A RECHARGE!!" That's my favorite thing to hear. Couldn't be more wrong. There is a reason why the freon leaked out. It's supposed to be a closed system. If you find out where the holes are (dye test) you might find out it'll set you back low $ thousands. Off my rant! That's a high estimate on AC, I could just buy a complete vintage air setup for less than $1500. I'll throw some miracle fix and refrigerant in it and see what happens

@@PoleBarnGarage a " hell yea" way to go. My 87 Plymouth Gran Fury had the same issue. A/C blew hot. The dye test showed leaks at every "O" ring, the condenser had leaks at every connection. I'm like, look, I'll just take another car on illegally hot days 😂
We had a 73 Gran Torino wagon when I was young, 351c pale green with dark green interior. I played with my Lego's in the cargo area all the way to Florida before seatbelt laws went into effect. It was traded in when it would no longer pass NJ inspection due to rust/rot.
