BA Falcon - How to Replace Rear Wheel Bearing - Ute and Wagon
I was surprised to see no KZread tutorials for the rear bearing replacement on a BA,FG or AU falcon wagon or ute. As it's an axle bearing as opposed to the much simpler hub type bearing on the front and on the rear of the sedan model with Independent rear suspension.I did find an excellent write up/photo essay however: www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/to...
You will need a press, and if you have the right press, unlike me, a bearing splitter, part numbers are in the above link for the tools.

    I press bearing & retaining ring on together as one unit as specified by Timkin. Also use a feeler gauge to make sure you have an ultra fine gap between bearing and shoulder of axle so you don't over press it. And don't forget to install bearing seal plate as well :)

    Hi Tangles , love your vids so thanks for them so far , my BA xr6 Ute has a noisey rear end , it’s constant so I think it’s wheel bearings , when I jacked it up it was hard to tell if it was wheel or diff bearing noise . Going to remove the axles after watching this video . Do you know if it’s ok to run the vehicle in drive with axles out to test that the diff bearings are ok or not . Obviously packing rags on ends to stop oil leakage . I am also going to use a long metal bar on the diff centre and at each end to see if I can hear the noise more clearly . Thanks again Craig

  • @tangles01

    @tangles01

    3 жыл бұрын

    I'm not sure if you can do that mate the axles may or may not play a part on holding something in the diff in place. I assume it's ok, but I'd make sure before trying, also it may make a noise with the axles out that it wouldn't otherwise without the pressure they put on it.

    Hey mate would it be cheaper to replace the rear axle hub assembly if you get one from wreckers rather than replacing the bearings? I have an fg and my studs are all loose just thought of replacing the whole axle since the hub doesn't come off unless you remove the bearings 😢

  • @tangles01

    @tangles01

    Жыл бұрын

    Well if you pull the axle the race will be off the bearings already, and you don't know what you're getting. If I wasn't confident I'd just pull them and give them to a mechanic, parts and all and ask them to do it then reinstall. At least you knkw you've got new bearing and studs that way but save some labour in pulling the shafts.

    It took me WAY longer than it should have, between putting one on backwards, and filming etc. $300 seems reasonable to be honest for both bearings.
