They make great gear. My B & B bashplate has put up with a lot of abuse over the years. Those little wings may deflect water if your lucky. I should go and visit them, I work across the road.

I also fitted the B & B bash-plate to my Transalp, not so much by choosing from the variety of options, but because the shop who sold me the bike had one on the shelf, allowing me to fit protection without waiting. But yes - it is a substantial plate, erring on the side of strength rather than lightness! 6.6 kgs from memory, all up, and I intend trying to shave a few grams from that total. But that's just me... At least the plate's weight sits low on the bike. The extra space inside the plate is as much to do with the forward angle of the exhausts, and the swollen cats, as the 'low-hanging fruit' of the notorious sump, and the tightness when fitting is due to the rubber packer included under the lowest point of the sump needing to be compressed a little. Having had mine off and back on for an oil change (nearly 10,000 kms now) I agree that leaving the rear mounts loose at the frame allows the plate to be refitted easier. To me, one of the biggest areas Honda could improve (could have improved?) is this ground clearance issue, where a shorter sump 'snout', and more tucked-away exhausts, could have yielded 15mm or so extra clearance, and a slightly less-massive sump guard! But that's a project for another day. Maybe there will be an 'R' model one day with this mod, to allow the Honda to have ground clearance similar to its competitors. (The hanging sump is a separate part to the crankcases). But in the meantime the B & B bash-plate is a solid part, well made, and allows us to hit rocks etc. with a clear conscience. My cats got a few bruises before I fitted the guard. I will report back here as to how much weight I was able to save from the plate itself, and the rather weighty 1/4" mild steel brackets, when I do some lightening on the B & B. I may also seek metric replacements for the supplied (longer) front engine mounting bolts, as the 3/8" diameter ones (about 9.2mm) supplied are undersize compared to the stock 10 mm bolts.

I am looking forward to seeing your report on the weight savings.
