    Dr Alexis Stephens, who has eczema, has suggested putting the azelaic product in the refrigerator and applying it cold to help with the stinging. She uses the prescription version. Also, azelaic acid is a favorite of derms in pregnancy skincare videos.

    Hi Alice, I have used many bottles by facetheory at 15% (I live in Europe) and I only use it at night paired with the isntree green tea serum. I do experience some tingling when I use it for the first days after a break but then my skin gets used to it. I think it really made my skin clear up and helped me a lot. Green tea, mugwort and coptis japonica have helped me so much as well. Azelaic Acid definitely does some mild exfoiliation to me therefore I only use it at night with a good hydrating moisturiser. 💋❤️

    I've been using the Paula's Choice 10% for a few months for rosacea and FWIW my hormonal acne along the jawline has calmed way down as well. May be too soon to say if it's coincidence; I'll need to give it a few more months. I may try that peach slices one, that looks good and costs less than Paula's Choice.

    I was using an SOS azelaic acid mask. My skin seemed to enjoy it, and I have some persistent acne on the one side of my face despite using tretinoin, that I decided to try the Paula's Choice Azelaic acid booster since it was so well rated. Since it has salicylic acid in it, I worked up to it by using a salicylic acid cleanser a couple mornings a week. Hope that eases the transition. Using it for the first time tonight, slightly tingly, but overall a soothing feeling. I think my skin likes licorice root.

    Late to the party, but I’ve had luck ordering 15-20% strengths from a few overseas sites with cheaper shipping! The facetheory 15% serum can ship to the US from their UK website, and there’s a few AUS sites that ship azclear (20%) internationally. I find the Azclear actually stings my skin less than any other AA products I’ve tried, which may have to do with the thicker (almost glue-like) consistency, but it’s a fair trade in my eyes!

    Purely anecdotal, but I’ve been using Azelaic acid twice daily since 2018. I’ve gone between 10% twice a day and 14% in the am and 4% (in my Cureology rx) in the pm. I also use tretinoin .07% 5 nights a week, and Mandelic acid 40% once a week. So, there are those of us who tolerate a lot of actives. Oddly though, my skin HATES a lot of EOs. Rosemary EO gives me contact dermatitis! 😳😲 I hadn’t associated the azelaic acid with my reduction of acne, but your video definitely made me start thinking …. (I started using azelaic acid for the pigment inhibiting aspects.) However, now that I think about it, I have only had one cystic acne lesion since I started using it, and I have had very few other spots of acne! 😮

    I can vouch for the Paula’s Choice azelaic booster. It’s 10%. I don’t have acne, but suspected the tiny random pimples I’d get might be acne rosecea. It just showed up in my life one day. Awesome. I still don’t know what it is exactly I am plagued with, but if I use the booster every night, I don’t wake up with any. I’ve tested that theory and sure enough, if I miss a night, I wake up with between one and a few of those little bastards on my face. Take from that what you will. I do have dry skin. It does not normally burn, but I think quantity makes a difference in that respect. Enough but not too much… and probably not best to put it on wet or damp skin.

    I love azelaic acid and have used it consistently for about a year. I started with the PC but now use the naturium azelaic topical acid. It uses a derivative in combination with ethyl ascorbic acid and Niacinamide. I've never had issues with either of them but the pricetage of naturium vs PC wins for me lol. I'm not sure about it's effectiveness on my acne because i also have an Epiduo Rx but i mainly use it to soothe redness and PIE.

    I have the most varied azelaic acid experience ever. Somewhere around 2021 I purchased 15% facetheory azeclear serum, it stung a lot but cleared my acne in just a few days wonderfully but after day 5 I developed contact dermatitis on the face from it and anytime I tried using it again no matter how much I diluted it with other moisturisers the same happened. Then I purchased 10% azelaic acid from revox and it didn't sting but it also didn't seem to do anything and I used it for a month. Then about three years later I purchased facetheory again and it didn't sting, maybe a tiny bit here and there and yet it did nothing for my inflammatory acne but it also didn't give me dermatitis. I didn't know about the 2-3month usage to see results though.

    I used 10% azelaic acid twice a day for a month and it worked wonders for me. Had no pesky side effects back then either. Calmed down inflammation, breakouts, and redness, but the surprise discovery for me was that it also almost eradicated the seb dem I’d been struggling with for years. Tried so many prescriptions for that, including oral anti-fungals and they only had minimal impact. I’m so surprised by this considering it’s prescribed and sold as being an acne and rosacea treatment with no mention of it being a seb dem treatment 🤯 It truly seems to be a jack of all trades ingredient, much like retinoids and vitamin C. Wouldn’t be without it in my skincare now, but have not been able to tolerate twice a day 10% potency since starting on tretinoin, unfortunately. Hopefully I can work my way back towards that in time. But, I’ve found that even 5% potency is beneficial, just not as much so.

    Personally I like Niacinamide more than Azelaic Acid, niacinamide works at a lower concentration and is easier to find as it seems to incorporate well into a lot of formula. In my country the most available in those small tubes of gel, which kinda leave a film when applying because they are supposed to be spot treatment. I haven't tried azelaic acid myself, as it got introduced to me after I have recovered from my worst acne breakout, my acnes are cleared out, the blemish are barely visible. One star ingredient that did save my face is mugwort (artemisia annua), 3 years ago I finished three bottles of the Missha time revolution artemisia essence, the fourth got leaked by half when I was travelling. At this point i'm new to skincare and have not heard of niacinamide or retinol, so I'm confident that the ingredient really healed my damaged skin barrier. As of now mugwort has not reached the level of recognition of Cica (centella asiatica & madecassoside) or heartleaf (houttuynia cordata) as a soothing/healing ingredient, but if anybody wants to add a botanical extract into their skincare routine alongside active ingredient, mugwort is a good option to consider trying.

    Great video! Facetheory can no longer sell their 15% Azelaic Acid in the US😪. I've been using this for over 2 years, once to twice daily. It has made my skin less sensitive, I'm guessing due to reducing inflammation? The only product I don't use it with is glycolic acid. I can use it with everything else including tretinoin. I still have four bottles, so I can take my time finding another product. Looking at some Australian pharmacy website for a 15% replacement. But might try some of the 10% first. Thank you for the recommendations!! Many blessings!💖💖💖

    I always wonder how serums like the cos de baha can really penetrate into the skin? I heard Dr Dray talk about how only 4-5% of Azelaic acid whichever one you apply, can be absorbed into the skin. So basically if you use a 15% Azelaic Acid apparently you’re only getting 4-5% absorption of that. I am not sure how true this is and I cannot find the video at the moment but when I do I will link it.

  • @AliceintheRabbitHole

    I read that study, yep! However, that was one formulation. So it seems that brands are trying to figure out how to increase penetration (and I absolutely do think that could explain variations in efficacy by product)

  • @AliceintheRabbitHole

    @AliceintheRabbitHole

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes! It’s often recommended for rosacea. But as far as the “do you need it” question, I think it’s important to keep in mind that the research used it with high frequency. I feel that can make it a bit difficult to incorporate into some routines (totally speaking from experience if that’s not obvious 🤣). For example, you might have to decide between AzA and AHA/BPO. So bottom line - it’s another option, and imo a good option, but still may not be a necessity for everyone. Hope that helps!

    I really enjoyed the CosdeBaha personally... I'm ALWAYS adding a ton of Moisture into any and all routines so I've never experienced dryness. Love the peach slices, I think it's the most user friendly. The Naturium AA Emulsion 10 % is a really nice, gentle formula too. Also Zeal Sea Supra AA 10% is labeled as a slow release and is quite affordable. The Facetory gives me the most immediate results I've noticed. I've tried so many as my skin personally loves this ingredient. The Paula's choice is a nice texture but too expensive with so many other affordable options. Also the Mario Badescu Clarifying serum is a lighter weight gel like formula but I'm not sure of the percentage on that one to be honest. Curious about The Inkey List option...
