This explains so much! I bought TO Argireline and it was very much like applying glycerin to my face lol. I even gave it a good 2 month exclusive run on one side of my face. But I do have thicker skin (thank you years of acne) and I did apply it like my other anti-aging serums (on dry skin right after cleansing). I'll give it another go and try skin flooding beforehand to see if I can get any results. If not, I guess I have another fancy foot serum.

This was so fun and so incredibly helpful!! This reminded me of the last time I went down the rabbit hole, looking into sederma owned volufiline which has like 18 other names just add to the confusion 😂 peptides feel like some of the most confusing and popular ingredients ATM, so this info is invaluable! I like to use the matrixly’s for the in case/why not factor. I know that they certainly don’t hurt. I did an experiment with copper peptides when I was recovering from a scar revision (I used niods because they were the most concentrated) but tbh I had no control, so I have no idea whether or not it helped 😂 I do like the idea of the multi Serum for just covering all the bases! I hope in the future we get more data around this it is definitely super interesting!!

Did it seem to help? That was my issue with copper peptides too - I don’t think it hurt in my case, but I can’t say it helped beyond regular multi-peptide serum and a nice ceramide product. But yep, the multiple names for these peptides - phew! It’s a lot to take in lol!

@@AliceintheRabbitHole you know I’m really not sure it helped my scar at all per se, but I was committed to using the full bottle bc of the cost. I think I disliked it in the beginning bc I felt like it made my skin feel more dry than usual. Once I started using it only at night with plenty of hydrators, I tolerate it fine but I think if improvements have been made, they have to be pretty minimal. It’s been a few months. I do plan on taking after pictures once the bottles done but I’m not expecting to re-purchase, it just doesn’t feel worth it rn.

Thank you Alice, so informative 👍👍👍 i’ve used the Buffet for years, but switched to RNW ceramide conc serum recently in my night routine. I love this serum. For my eyes, i use NIOD FECC., which contains all goodies you need: peptides, niacinamide, ascorbic acid, caffeine, glycerin….Yes, it’s pricey, but as it’s the only expensive product in my routine and 1 bottle lasts me 6 months, I don’t care ( and i buy 2 bottles during slowvember😊 to cover a full year). Much love from Europe ❤

This is a terrific video. I use 3 of these products! I use the matrixyl and the argireline every night (ish) and do see results, I think? I however REALLY like the eye serum, which I use in the morning. I just drip a single drop in my palm and can pat it in as enough for my eyes and around my lip lines. I think at that level of use it might literally last forever. The other peptide containing products I have used and loved include the Cold Plasma Plus line (I used my points on the essence), the Biossance copper peptide serum and the Peach & Lily Peptide Pro moisturizer. I typically use any copper peptide products on alternating mornings with Vitamin C, and use a Vitamin C derivative on the days I use the copper peptides. Hard to know about results because my face with all of these products is the poster child for confounding factors. I always appreciate when you give us the deep science dive, Alice. Thank you!

I have the Matrixyl and Argiraline from the Ordinary and use daily. I just got the Mary & May 6 Peptide serum that I got in the Spring Forward Vana Box, which is an awesome deal with some great products, also I think how every product seemed to contain niacin, the ingredient in everything going forward may be peptides...I'm interested in the peptide, Palmitoyl Hexapeptide 12. I've found it in the Purito Centella Serum which I'd purchase if I didn't just receive the Mary & May.

For the copper peptide folks, master esty Penn Smith Skincare has done several videos on them including one from a couple months ago. Agree with the comment about treating them like humectants. I saw an article with three derms talking about peptides and one of them was like, maybe they work but more studies are needed.

I love when you put your researcher hat on (and purple hair) and explain things in ways that don’t require my trying to remember too much organic chemistry. Peptides are beautifully complex and while I may only seeing the positive results of two years of lovely, completely wearable, Korean sunscreen on my mature skin, I will continue trying peptides. I have noticed that continued use of the Ordinary’s Argireline seems to have decreased the tiny frown lines on the top of my nose in line straight across with my eyes; this is only place I use it, but I cannot discount other products I use that may migrate, such as retinol. I don’t tolerate retinoids in my eye area, but it is hard to completely prevent migration. I hope you will consider discussing more about peptides in the future.

My thoughts while watching this video: I don't know anything about My Chemical Romance but I do understand what Kurt Cobain is singing, so I'm going to assume that's the same thing for different generations. So that's what Syn-ake is! I definitely used dozens of sheet masks with that label without having any clue what was on my face. I used a copper peptide serum (by Makeup Revolution, of all companies) that was amazing for the first bottle. I have photos - I practically lost a chin while using it because it helped that much with my sagging skin. Any time I've used it since - the same brand or another - I've gotten skin irritation. But the chin hasn't come back! I would love this to be a series. One topic idea: Are the peptides in more expensive products better? Is there more research behind what's in the Peach and Lily peptide cream than there is on the Buffet? What about Perricone MD or some of those other very high priced brand? Do we have any research showing the peptides in those products to be "worth" their price point? (I'm guessing brands have research they don't share, but from what we can access as consumers, what do we know about any correlation between effectiveness and price in this area?)

I have the purito it's good to nice for day time and if your having irritation cause it has the cica in it or someone starting out . Victoria D’Ann is a professional line of skincare products which is completely built around various peptides. They even claim that some of their peptides help to increase fat pads in certain areas of the face. I had trouble believing them but they have their “studies”. Would love your analysis of these products. You do a great job explaining all these ingredients and I really appreciate learning from you. Is there a particular resource that you use to research peptides? I’ve tried finding a book on peptides but so far been unlucky

  • @AliceintheRabbitHole

No book, but the first citation I have listed was a gold mine for doing this video! It’s concise and clear. Is it in-house or funded studies? There’s nothing necessarily wrong with those, but most likely they don’t cover the less exciting findings. For example, if (big cereal company) hired my lab to figure out whether their cereals improve digestive health, we will measure different parameters. The cereal might help with some aspects, but do nothing in others. With a funded study, (big cereal company) will want us to only publish the promising data, and to ignore whatever didn’t look so great. A good unbiased study would report on the good, the bad, and the neutral. Hopefully that helps explain it!

If chemists want to add them to other products great but my days of trying peptide serums are probably over. Botox definitely works! Tah dah!

I am starting to think that the original Buffet from TO I can buy here in Europe is a completely different formulation than what is available on the US market? The Buffet we have here is watery like the Argirilene, whereas their Matrixyl has a weird and goopy texture. This is opposite to what I hear from American reviewers - they seem to think the Matrixyl is watery and the Buffet is goopy. Had anyone else noticed that?

I have used the eye serum since the day it came out and still have 3/4th of the bottle left. It takes such a small dot of the product for both eyes that I feel like it will easily last me 6 months if not more. When I hear people bitch about how it’s only 1/2 ounce it confuses me because I feel like that would take a year to use. I have started to see really good results from the eye serum and I never say that with any product. I was due to get Botox last month and I cancelled because I don’t feel like my orbital eye wrinkles are that bad suddenly..call me crazy but I feel like it definitely works. I take the dropper out don’t even squeeze the dropper just dab one tiny drop on my finger and rub them together boom it works great! I’ve quit using any of the other peptide products from the ordinary because I just got sick of using so many bottles but I will vouch for this one

I think it’s a bit of a sticker shock situation. I’ve bought products from TO for under $5 - this feels more like L’Oréal pricing!? But I do agree, it’s a really nice product - at least in time (one of those “slower results” types lol). And given that other eye serums I’ve enjoyed are $80, in the end I have to say I’m pleased with it!

The only way I’ve ever been able to get the ordinary buffet to work is by mixing a drop of that argireline in it. I don’t really do it because I think it makes it work better but it makes it NOT PILL which is something I cannot mentally handle pilling makes my skin crawl so for like a full year I used it that way. Even the copper peptide one pills on me so I mix a drop of argireline in it and it stops the pilling. I’ve since stopped using it because I like vitamin C better 🤷‍♀️

How was your experience with ample:N peptide shot? I think I made a mistake buying it. 😂 The fragrance is just 💀 Off topic: 10 years ago, I read about the signaling proteins and receptors (SNAP and SNARE) in med school. I knew I would never use this knowledge in my practice, and I was right. Now here I am, a doctor of medicine with an interest (not specialty) in skincare now encountering these proteins again! And really, you understood them better than I did. 😅 I am always amazed by the many things I learn from your channel. ❤

The ample:n is a like but not a love for me. I like how affordable it is and the choice of peptides; I don’t like the “peptide snakes” (just seems like a strange way to do it, given we realistically wouldn’t be able to see the peptides at the percentages they’re used?) The fragrance didn’t irritate my skin, but I can see it being off-putting! Thank you for the kind words! 🥰

Two things: have you ever tried the Perricone Neuropeptide night cream? I nabbed a tube at TJMaxx and I love the way it feels going on! I can't make claims on long-term results just yet. Also: I don't know why, but somehow over the last couple years I got it into my head that Oligopeptides are like- THE BEST of all the peptides. Why do I think this? Am I forgetting a hyped up product that these were featured in? I mean if I see a peptide serum or cream and check the label, I go through the ingredients looking for oligopeptides. Why?! This almost feels like a Mandela effect situation. Can you shed any light on this for me? Anyone else out there with this thought?
