    I normally watch the full video and then go back and look at links but this time I actually ran and got the RNW before you were even finished talking about it 😂😂 I am always so interested to learn more about growth factors. Last year I did a deep dive bc I had a really bad scar on my face and I wanted to do everything in my power to help it heal correctly. I spent so much money lol. It honestly healed just ok but I’ll never know if the money was worth it. The conclusion I came to was that if it’s not from human derived media, the growth factors are less likely to be effective, but the price points are so wildly different. I certainly think it’s worth looking into nonhuman derived. I certainly don’t put a lot of stock in say the apple “stem cells” from juice, beauty but I have seen evidence, especially from barley derived egf (that is in all honesty pretty equal to the weak evidence we have on any of the other ones!) During healing, I tried neogenesis, (which I now realize it was a mistake. I probably should’ve picked skin Medica), copper peptides from Niod and something from a plastic surgeon called rescue MD along with generic scar gel. Most recently I hear people talking about methylene blue for scar recovery, which I’m like. I thought that was dye I don’t know what’s going on lol it’s always something! All that to say, I think peptides are in some ways, the precursor to a lot of these other things, more reliable due to the molecule size and a really good place to start! I really hope the research continues bc right now I feel like I’m taking the kitchen sink approach lol but it’s really exciting stuff!

  • @AliceintheRabbitHole

    @AliceintheRabbitHole

    Жыл бұрын

    I’m right there with you. I’m really excited for the research to come out as personally, I do suspect we will see that the concept has a lot of potential And I totally feel you on the confusion of human v plant-based. I know the companies that sell human-based versions claim plant-based is ineffective, but I’m not personally convinced of that. You might be onto something with it being less effective, but I suspect it isn’t ineffective (the study I cited used barley based EGF!)

  • @Criticalbeauty411

    I'm interested in the vegreen after hearing you talk about the thicker texture. I struggled to describe why I preferred the ordinary buffet serum (I forget the new name lol) over the Purito centella unscented serum, but it's definitely because purito's was thinner. I should also mention, the Purito started to turn pink! Expiry was 2024 but it started turning pink last year. I bought it before I was done with my last bottle and now I think I'll try something else, but also not repurchase too soon. The lack of preservatives is such a pain.

  • @AliceintheRabbitHole

    @AliceintheRabbitHole

    It turned PINK!? 😳😳 whoa thanks for sharing! Personally, I really do miss parabens. It’s a tough conversation to have these days, but those were so effective at SUCH tiny concentrations, with years of data showing safety. Now we have less effective preservatives wherein more must be used…and we know even less about long-term safety. It all feels so whackadoodle 😞

    I am so happy you added a part 2, because while I started with The Ordinary, I have switched over to mostly Korean (and some Japanese) skincare. I have added the Vegreen to my “to try” list and will try the RNW again, although I will have to wait because I already have too many peptide serums (yes, I know I have a problem😀). One question I have for you is because of The Ordinary, they have table/list of what products you can and can’t use together in a single routine, I don’t see this from other brands but I do worry about peptides. What are your thoughts?

    I am one of those customers who started serious skincare in my mid 50's...instead of 20's. Wrong generation, I guess. Anyhow, I am also one of those former customers of the Ordinary who has transitioned away from most of their products I used to love...because I didn't notice much difference in my skincare issues...even after a few years of usage. Wrinkles, Pigment, Lines, Texture irregularities and such. Very little improvement. I have switched to more So. Korean Products and less "Ordinary". I still love their aha Peeling Solution and will never stop using that product. As a newbie to skincare, peptides and all of that...I have become more selective in my skincare these days. I am now 62. I originally loved the Ordinary...due to the transparency of active ingredients and percentages of specific serums. It was like a Skincare 101 class from my home. I knew so little...and learned so much. Now in 2023...I like the Essences, the So. Korean Peptides and the price point is very affordable. Sometime more affordable than the Ordinary. When I found out Estee Lauder bought a large interest in the Ordinary...I decided to walk away. The novel reality of the Ordinary for me...was the "Rogue aspect" of transparency, purity and affordability. I do not want to put $$$ in Estee Lauder's BLOATED COFFERS. They should have STAYED IN THEIR OWN LANE OF DRUGSTORE SKINCARE. Other reason I moved on...was when they started getting rid of products I liked that were part of their other lines. Primarily The Chemistry hand creams. Now they are getting rid of their makeup. I never cared for those products. I am sure there are others who DO. Apparently Deciem wants to piss off its customers by discontinuing products they like. Of course they want to KEEP NIOD. That line is pricey...so typical.

    I really enjoyed this video Alice, thank you. I just purchased the Mizon 500 peptide serum, will open it once I've used up my RNW. RNW is just so nice! Can you over do peptides? Or once you've got some in your routine is adding more ineffective? Just wondering as I use a peptide serum at night with a heavier cream, and Stratia Interface in the day. But if I combined the serum and interface would this be brilliant or probably unnecessary?

  • @AliceintheRabbitHole

    @AliceintheRabbitHole

    Жыл бұрын

    Interface is actually a pretty different blend of peptides! So in that case, I don’t think you would need to worry about overdoing it. However, you could hypothetically apply too much peptide serum to properly absorb (and thus waste it 😞). Hope that helps!

    Oh the flash sales, it’s a story!! Here’s my best effort at explaining them: So yes, they’re a real price point on a timer. But they’re often the same price on a repeat timer? For example, I was watching this one green dress that was “80% off”. Timer ended, reset. This has happened for 4 months with that dang green dress lol. I’m also not convinced the supposed 80% is real at all - it equates to more like 20% off compared to other products from the same brand 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ However! There have been other items where I’ve watched the timer switch over and the sale ACTUALLY end 💔 - then there have been times where I’ve watched it end, and restart with an even lower price Soooooo. Is this helpful? Probably not, I sadly suspect. But you see why I say it’s so hard to figure out the price of K-Beauty products 👀

    It took me quite awhile to figure out why I can’t use the Purito or the Vegreen serum more frequently than once or twice a week and never with certain sunscreens. It’s the niacinamide. It makes sense, I guess. I can’t handle systemic niacin in any form. So, why would my skin be okay with the topical form? I’m the proverbial canary in the coal mine.

    Regarding Ample:N peptide shot - yes there is 2x version, that doesn't contain any alcohol nor fragrance (completely odorless) and should contain double the amount of peptides. I like it, but I use it only in pair with my Geek & Gorgeous retinal serum, hoping for the alleged synergy. No idea why the 2x version is not more widely available among retailers, when it is in my opinion better 🤷‍♂ and given the size, it lasts for ever. The original version you reviewed here smells like some heavy, lingering perfume for people with... weak sense of smell? 😅

I've always been the former type but im wondering if using one serum only every 2-3 nights nights might be hindering it's full efficacy. And is it ok to use these serums with other exfoliating serums like retinol and bha?

    It really depends on the serum in question, but generally speaking, yes you’d want to keep at it. As for chemical exfoliants, I’d say to use those separately from peptides. I rarely use those anymore which simplifies things greatly lol!

    Because of the way in which peptides work, they are used at very, very low percentages - well below the 1% line. For example, we have studies showing efficacy at .0003% for the matrixyl peptides This is true of many ingredients in skincare, very much including actives (check out the usage levels of tretinoin, for example - and even that tiny amount can be hard to adjust to!) The case in which you would want more mostly applies to ingredients that serve to sit on top of the skin or in the upper layers (emollients/occlusives). This is why you can use a carrier oil at 100%. It’s purpose is to sink into the cracks of your skin vs to go deeper and signal collagen production (as we suspect peptides do) Hope that helps!

    My 1ST concern about this Ample N Peptide and all of these Peptides is the very long list of ingredients in these products. Seems like a lot of fillers. I understand the highlighted ingredients are probably the more important ones? If Alice or anyone else can clarify my questions...that would be fantastic. 2ND Question would be how would someone with aged skin like mine (62 yrs old)utilize these peptides you are showing us? How many peptides are TOO MUCH? Which goes on 1st, 2nd etc.? What can be mixed with non-peptide products in a skincare routine? I have 3 routines daily. I know enough about "layering"...not to use EVERYTHING at once...so I break up my routine into 3 parts. AM is Urea Essence, Growth Factor, non-irritating newer form of Vit C, Niacinamide and Moisturizer with Ceramides Mid Evening is Growth Factor, Matrixl and any other Peptides and Snail Mucin moisturizer. Bedtime is Moisturizer Base, then Retinol Oil on top and a "face fattening" ACTIVE Product. My skincare routine is one big adventure into the unknown and unproven...at least to Me. My skin is very AGED. I look about 10 yrs older than I should...due to bad habits in my past. I see these Peptides...and want them ALL. Yet...many have the same ingredients plus something different. I don't want a negative reaction by overusing. I know I cannot undo the damage I have done to my face...but I would like to do the best I can to improve it...without OVERDOING IT. I don't think I have "a clue" how to use these properly. HELP? ANYONE?

  • @AliceintheRabbitHole

    @AliceintheRabbitHole

    9 ай бұрын

    Can I ask why you’re using actives later in your routine? The standard is actives after cleansing BUT I know some people have reasoning for why they move them to a different part of the routine (ie your urea essence does increase absorption, though you’d need to make sure you’re not following with pH-dependent steps. Looks good in that I don’t see AHA/L-AA). Regarding peptides, the core issue with them is that we don’t have a lot of independent data. We do know they are hydrating to the skin, but for example - the idea that argireline acts as a “botox alternative” - it’s a bit iffy on whether that mechanism is actually taking place deeper within the skin. I love peptides, but I try to be mindful of the grey area they’re currently in! As such, I’d always say to start with proven ingredients (such as retinoids) and THEN add in peptides. That way, your routine is research-backed first, with some of the more adventurous ingredients to follow!

    @@AliceintheRabbitHole Embarrassingly...I have to admit I shave whiskers on my chin after cleansing mid evening. Vit C would sting if I used it in a mid evening routine AFTER. I use Vit C and Niacinamide in AM because my morning routine is with a fresh clean face and no shaving. Mid PM routine is non stinging ingredients ie. Essence, Peptides and a light moisturizer. I use the Ordinary Peeling Solution once a week. NO actives in that MID PM routine on that day. That is the AHA I left off the list. I use the essence in am and mid pm when my face is clean. My bedtime routine is moisturizer and RETINOL. No Doctor and/or Influencer has ever been CLEAR... on using Vit C in the same routine as Retinol. Different opinions out there. Are Essences considered Active or Inactive? No clear data from anyone about that either. I've used Retinol in my bedtime routine for over a year now. I am not a Newbie at Retinol. I have never needed Tretinoin. I have never considered Botox as a desirable option for me...and Argireline does ZERO for my skin. No results after close to a year. Peptides do intrigue me. I know they are unproven. I use a Copper Peptide, Matrixl 3000 and I ordered the Ample N Peptide. Those are the three I intend to use together. A Grand Experiment...indeed. 4 yrs ago...I spent 1400 dollars on HA Fillers which did ZERO. I would NEVER waste $$$ on that again. Topicals and Actives are the only tools I have. Obviously a vertical face-lift would be the "gold standard" for my issues...but that's off the table...dollarwise. Thanks for responding so quickly. I will not take up any more of your time. • @AliceintheRabbitHole

    Nah, that’s not embarrassing-I shave my face too. It makes for a nice clean canvas 😁 The word “actives” is used in skincare in a few different ways (which can cause confusion). It refers to ingredients vs products, and it SHOULD refer to ingredients that are readily available to your skin (“the active form”, as an example retinoic acid). We tend to call ingredients such as retinol active ingredients, but retinol technically requires 2 conversions within your skin/after applying for your skin to use it. So to answer your question about Vitamin C: Active vitamin c and vitamin c derivatives are different categories (a derivative converts into the active form / retinol is a retinoid derivative). The big difference is that vitamin c requires a low pH - which can be irritating. So retinol products tend to be at a pH of about 5-6, and vitamin C needs about 3-4. If you combine those, the higher pH of the retinol will cause the vitamin c to work less efficiently. This rule does not apply with vitamin c derivatives, which can be used at a higher pH. Apologies if that’s a lot to take in. Most influencers and even derms try to give the abbreviated explanation, as…well, you can probably guess, the full explanation is long. But in giving shorter explanations, a lot of the detail is lost - and yep, that can get quite confusing! You might really like Lab Muffin Beauty’s channel if you want to dig more into the science. She has a way of not leaving out the important details! Hope that is helpful ☺️

Honestly, this system works SOOOO well, whereas before I was dealing with retinoid-based irritation I suspect it’s because the idea of skin being dry is that moist skin increases the speed of absorption. Dry skin still absorbs product, but slower, thus reducing adverse effects (as it’s more slowly entering into your skin) Hope that helps explain it!
