Yue's story, as others have noted, is really a tragedy. And not just because she dies, but because her life was never her own. She grew up sheltered, got engaged to someone she did not love, and then sacrificed herself for her people and the world. She always did what was expected of her at the expense of her very own life. On an unrelated note: Is it just me or is Koh's voice really attractive? Can't wait for season two!

Hello ! I found it also tragic, even more because since we met her, I wanted our guys to help her to get free, I keept repeating that ok Sokka loved her and could save her but after that maybe she was not gonna stay with us and it would be ok, i just wanted her to be free, to have the choice for her life. And that's how I'm reassuring myself here, it was her choice to give her life for protecting everyone, no one asked her to do so. But I don't consider that she's free or anything because she's not there anymore, she didn't become the moon, the moon took back her life. It's sad but I have a big respect for what she did 🖤

@@LauraReactions Interesting perspective. I considered she was free because she gave up her life out of her own choice. She did became the moon spirit. The moon spirit wouldn't care about Sokka but Yue did. Hence the "Goodbye Sokka, I will always be with you". Now she can watch over her people and rules the sky with compassion and lunar goodness.

Not only you, Koh's voice made me feel so strange the first time I watched the show 😅

Fun note about Zuko's sister: in the intro for every episode she is the firebender you see during the sequence, "Water. Earth. Fire. Air." She has literally been in the show from the very beginning, even before Zuko and Aang. Book 2 HYPE!!!

When a sweet, kind man like Iroh yells like that its just bonechilling. If he tells you to let it go, then you best drop that fish quick, you can tell Uncle Iroh doesnt make idle threats. Iroh honestly might be my favorite character of the whole show. He is an amazing person and uncle/fatherfigure to Zuko

Hello ! The more I think about it and the more I think about the fact that Iroh told that to Zhao to protect the Spirit but also after that he stopped Katara who wanted to stop Aang to merge with it. And then, on the "boat" he has this sentence to Zuko, like "you don't want to capture the Avatar anymore ?". I mean, it can be like just something about Iroh's link with Spirit world and something about his way of teaching Zuko some lessons ; or, and that's what I'm keeping an eye on, he's helping Aang, in a weird way, maybe for some weird obscure reasons (at least for me, for now 🙈).

@@LauraReactions It seems like Iroh simply tries to help everyone he meets. That is the kind of person he is, a truely good person. I love the fact the he choose to leave with Zuko after he got banished, because he knew Zuko would need him. He is an odd mix in way. A soldier mixed with a gentle soul plus very spiritual. He even traveled in to the spirit world. and he can cleary fight, but wants to find an other way if he can. I think his whole story when you learn about his past and see the whole show and where he ends up is really amazing . You will see!!

Avatar Aang + Ocean Spirit = KOI-ZILLA!!

This episode is when I realized how serious this show was getting. I didn't expect to see two characters die on screen in the show, but they went there and handled it so well. Looking forward to your Season 2 reaction.

I believe Yue's father could sense Sokka loved his daughter. I believe he had Sokka protect her because he knew she would sacrifice herself tonight (he had a vision) and he wanted someone who truly loves her to be with her in her final moments. This is just my theory, haha.

Its no exaggeration to say that at this point ive watched both this and korra over a hundred times, easily, and it STILL makes me cry every time, in the same spots. This show is truly a masterpiece.

When Iroh tells Zuko to rest, it is the first time in the series that Zuko listens and follows Iroh’s advice The actor who voiced Admiral Zhao is the actor who played Lucius Malfoy, father of Draco Malfoy, in the Harry Potter series! So glad you picked up on Iroh being able to see Aang and Roku’s dragon in the spirit world was because Iroh is so spiritual that he’s been to the spirit world before! And now...Azula, one of the most interesting villains ever written 😈

Or it's maybe the first time that Zuko is ready to listen : he had Aang, what he wanted since so long, what represents all of his hopes, he had him, and Aang decided to not kill him, to save him from death (alone right here in the snow). But even when he had Aang, for the first time, he talked about himself, like he was beginning to understand (and wanted Aang to understand) that his quest is not against Aang, it's for himself, and to please his dad ; and he said that in a shelter, because he was doing that all alone and couldn't go further now, but also couldn't have gone further no matter what, all alone, without help, boat, anything. Zuko following Iroh's advice it's big, and it's happening after Zuko realizing that he had what he wanted but failed because it was impossible for him to do it.

@@LauraReactions An excellent analysis of the amazing character that is Zuko! I have no doubts many of the wonderful characters and plot points will not escape your attention, and I can’t wait for S2!

I love that Yue's eyes are still fully colored, and just in shadow, while the rest of the world is in greyscale. Brilliant touch.

Season 1 is very good. Several amazing episodes. But now season 2 is ahead. In the words of Anakin Skywalker, "This is where the fun begins." Season 2 never lets up once it gets rolling.

This episode was nearly the first bit of Avatar I saw. I had been flipping through the channels and happened to catch the start of this one and decided to watch it. Absolutely loved it - Koh's lovecraftian menace, the supernatural martial arts, the art choices during the blood moon and the black moon (especially, the flashes of light during Zuko and Zhao's final duel), the epic feel of Aang channeling the Ocean Spirit to end to battle. Everything hit me just right and I had to see more! It took me a little while to figure out what the show was and then find the beginning of Season 1 at the library. It was only when I started watching the DVDs that this wasn't the first part of the show I had scene. Toward the end of the first episode, I thought "Wait.... This is that dumb penguin sledding show?!" I had briefly caught that part months earlier and thought the show looked ridiculous. So glad I gave it a second chance.

You are really strong, I was crying buckets when Aang bacame koizilla, then again I'm really emotional with shows and movies 🤭

For a second, I thought Laura was gonna sing Jessie Spano's song "I'm So Excited" from SAVED BY THE BELL, haha!!

I already sang you, and at multiple occasions, "turrrrrrrn arouuuuuuuund" (I can't hear it without thinking of the song and singing it 🙈), so yeah, I could have done it here!

The moment Aang turns into Koizilla as I call it is one of my favorite moments of the show. It’s just such a cool moment, I feel like an excited kid every time I see it.

I am truly impressed by how much thought you put into the writing of this show. Even in the midst of action, character moments, and comedy, you seem to instinctively pick up on cues and hints that the writers were setting up for the future. You've done it before on a number of occasions, the recognition that the girl in "The Storm" was his sister etc... But the one this episode has to be the most impressive for me. As Zuko trudged through the snow with Aang on his shoulders, you said, "I don't understand your plan". Wow. A seemingly innocuous statement, but one that will go on to have such powerful resonance and meaning, as Uncle Iroh says much the same to Zuko in "Lake Laogai". Enjoying your freak out over recognizing that Iroh saw the dragon. Keep paying attention. Everything in this show comes back at least once. Things casually mentioned in season 1 can show back up in season 3.

I can’t wait when you see the female antagonist for the second book , she’s a problem 😂👌🏾

Momo actually is the reason for so much, he helps fight against the fire nation in so many cases even in future episodes and he is not given the credit for it. His distractions that seem to do nothing actually delays time and there for changing the outcome of a situation. There’s one point where he turns the tied and it will be evident when he does.🐒

9:20 Yes he does have a sister, well guessed! I hope I didn't spoil it for you with my comment "Sister eh? I don't think Zuko has ever mentioned having a sister, you get the oddest notions." on your reaction to "the Storm". I may have been a bit to clever for my own good with that comment. But I was damn impressed that you guessed that it was Zuko's sister.

I find something to cry about every time when I watch Avatar, now too ofc :D And I was so happy you caught the sister from the Storm flashback, I really made an effort not to spoil it :D And seeing Iroh really angry for the first time was so impactful bc he is usually so calm and positive... Season 2 hype and what a reaction

When aang is in the avatar state his voice sounds like avatar Roku. But that’s what I think.

Season 1 was a 7/10 season 2 a 9/10 season 3 10/10 my own opinion of course but season 1 still has awesome moments! so if thats only a 7/10 for me just wait till you see whats coming! I've even subscribed just to see you follow this series! Much love, a subscriber! :)

A finale.

Yue's sacrifice always makes me cry, even with only the bits in a reaction video. You're discussion of Zuko's family relation also got me tearing up again; I feel like this is going to be an emotional reaction series, which are some of the best reaction series. A nice detail: when the Moon is gone, even Aang as the avatar for the ocean spirit cannot pull the water anymore; all the ocean can do is push. *Now* everyone who couldn't wait to point out Zuko's sister back during the Storm episode can point out she was there. Was waiting that half season really too much to ask for not giving a pointless spoiler?

I pointed out her presence myself you saw it 😊 I didn't know who she was but the fact that someone was standing in front of Iroh, it meant for me that she was a part of the royal family, a sister of a cousin. Yes, I cried here and yes, sorry, I was forced to cut into it for fair use rules reasons. But I'm getting less frustrated by it now that I have my Patreon and I know you have longer scenes over there. And even more with these last episodes, because I put the full reaction part 🙈

@@LauraReactions I remember you catching that and thinking you're doing a good job picking out the details. :) Now that Zuko's sister has been introduced, it feels especially a silly thing for people to have spoiling you on, and the pointlessness of that was all I was attempting to convey. I also didn't mean to imply that you should have edited your reaction any differently. Your reactions are well made and convey the major aspects of your reactions well, even if we don't see every tear (which also sounds like a creepy thing to want...).
