The older generation R8 looks sleeker and more modern than this one...

I thought the same thing at first. Something about sharpening off its edges didn't sit well with me. I'll be honest, it's still growing on me and I find myself liking it more and more compared to the prior gen, but I'm inclined to agree with you.

WeJustDrive Maybe I'm the only one but I genuinely prefer his more laid back, cool style. I hate all these psuedo-poet car reviewers throwing out every adjective they can just to seem creative. Dan comes across like a an enthusiastic friend describing a test drive, for me it's refreshing. shaft9000 I wonder how you came to that conclusion without ever seeing either of them in person, let alone driving them.... "certainly the better drivers car"....the bullshit some people write nowadays, unbelievable. I'm not saying it's not, but you can't know that and jumping into conclusions is something stupid people do. On top of it, every review of the Huracan suggests it's a great drivers car. Even Motor Trend (who usually hate Lambos) said it takes the performance and driving dynamics to a different level even compared to a Ferrari 488.

derbigpr500 one word: power-understeer. "the bullshit" you're referring to is every other reviewer that's driven one commenting how disappointed they were with the handling on-throttle. R8s have always been a more lively setup than the comparable Lamborghini's. It's not bullshit if it's common knowledge proven time and again, chief.

Well done Dan, a succinct, accurate review, thanks for the quality video EVO.
I wanted to see some big drifts to see how much the car can go into oversteer. Guess I'll have to wait for a Chris Harris review for that.. :P
I still wish the carbon side blade was one piece
Great job as always guys! Your production standards are right up there with the best sans the bullshit some channels are pulling to pay for watching their videos. Keep up the good work guys.
Night driving on a seemingly unfamiliar track and that car still handles like a dream.
Just watching this and my wife thought Dan Prosser was Jenson Button - hope I made his day
I saw someone driving this on the highway yesterday. It was an older model though. I had to just stop and stare lol. Beautiful dream car!
really anticipating seeing these in person!
Glad I'm not the only one who like banging the Rev Limiter. Good job on the review!
Great review, EVO are putting the best video's out at the moment! Are you watching Autocar?
how were you managing to bump the rev limiter soooo much?!
That said this is a great review
Wow! That was fast! Great driving!
I like this guy, he has good technical knowledge and driving ability, I just wish I could feel his excitement at times. (unless supercars aren't really Dan's thing then it will all make sense.)
Nice review! Dan Prosser looks somewhate like Carlos Lago from Motor Trend, right?
i liked this review. Good no-nonsense reviewer too. Keep it up Evo
6:00 noon: "how does it perform on the race track? circuit is just 30 minutes away" arrives in complete darkness :-D
the r8 v10 plus is my dream car love it so much!!!
Getting much more natural at these reviews Dan, good job!
gotta give this reviewer a thumbs up, not a single lamborghini huracan comparison or mentioning that it has the same engine, chassis or gear box. no hate either! nicely done
very cool but i would love to see it in your other track to compare the numbers..
***WHEN*** will the time come when we can see the road from the onboard cameras to sense how the car behaves and perhaps see some cool driving roads (for longer than 3 seconds), as opposed to a dude driving and talking? Him should be B-roll, not 80% of the video.

brtnspn That's how I feel. As a driver I want to see the characteristics of the car in relation to the roads it's on combined with the driver input. That's why I was such a fan of their onboard vidoes from car of the year, with a proper driver behind the wheel.
Impressive shots on the circuit :-s
Is it naturally aspirated? If so i think thats awesome
My dream car. The R8 sounds beautiful
good review for a great car 👌
Glorious video! Good job. Faith in the R8 restored, for a little.
Why does he keep rev-ing to the red line limiter?
Yo, how many times did this dude run in to the rev limiter tho?
Good video :) my dream car!
What's wrong between you and the rev limiter?
Don't understand why the new R8 is getting so much hate. I think it looks great. It looks fresh.

N/A Engines can be rev limited. 911 GT3, R8, Aventador it wont hurt the engine
Why no gated shifter?
We just filmed, critiqued the older variant today. Vid is live on our channel and or web site. Looking at this model in the vidoc, the older variant had the best aesthetics.
simply ...feel the power vorsprung durch technik ...i love that car..
I have always thought of the old R8 as misproportioned to down right ugly, but this thing, this thing has some style.
nice review, lost me thought when compared to gt3 or speciale....
Great stuff. You're coming into your own Dan. Regarding the car, I'd prefer this over the Huracan. It's the same underneath, it's more attractive from the outside and so, so much better inside. Audi has done a great job.
I like this guy as a reviewer.
I love atmospheric engines. Of course turbo are nice but the purity of n/a is awesome. Especially when making this kind of hp.
How does this guy get a job as a video personality? Speaking of personality, he has none. The only thing less inspired than Audi's new R8 design, is this guys amount of enthusiasm.
Superb
why is every review saying the car has a lot of grip w/ p zero tires. Isnt super sport cup better than PZero?
Yes, I agree the old exterior looks better, but the new interior is 10 times better. Plus now the R8 has over 600HP, chairman hit 200mph, and is better performing. I think it's a good trade. Don't worry, all of you will love the looks in about a year, just like what happened with the older R8 models that everyone called "ugly" when they first came out.
@TheTmat007

I disagree. This model looks better to me. It looks more athletic and exotic.
Sounds fantastic hitting the limiter!
amazing, this car is probably my next goal
its deff a design that is growing on me, i did not love it at first, but am coming to appreciate it the more i see it, probably still the best budget supercar around and would take it over a lifeless gtr anyday.
Great photography, great looking and sounding car! Can't wait to see one on the road. But hey...don't hit the rev-limiter damnit!
What is meant by Back it in to a corner? Is that braking while turning? Or is it some type of Scandinavian flick?
@saucybackport
9 жыл бұрын
sunil solanki just like with FWD you can't flick R8 but you can under break and squish more speed out of the corner. You can't be that aggressive with RWD or oversteering car cause you'll just spin out. Scandinavian flick is an RWD alternative to under breaking - controlled drift

Russell Jones Same engine if I'm not mistaken so if you don't mind buying a car that says Lamborghini but says Made in Germany everywhere than that's your car :)
@monochromecandle
9 жыл бұрын
Tomskii5 yep, same engine, more than likely the chassis as well as gearbox and all wheel drive system. What the R8 appears to offer over the Huracan is a more involving drive. Huracan reviews seem to convey a very understeer biased set up, at least according to evo the R8s set up is more lively.
@TheBigboySid
9 жыл бұрын
Russell Jones Huracan rear end is a big NO for me though. Yes people will still turn their heads for it, but just because its loud and its a lambo
This one is way better then the first and I like this one better. Faster, more comfort and refined. It just looks better with every color scheme as opposed to last generation
It´s a great car and it sounds absolutely fantastic - But even if I had the money for such a car I would not dream about the R8 and I can not really explain why. Nice review thanks :)
you've gotta work on your driving while talking, listening to you hitting that rev limiter over and over is not great

He hit the rev limiter at least 5 times this video. Don't do that, man.
if you could NOT bang the limiter while accelerating, especially in a paddle shifter, thad be great! thx
Was repeatedly lapped by 4 of these last time I went to the Nürburgring. These things were spanking everything around there, including a brand new GT3 RS.
What about interior?
Evo, please bring back Jethro for these reviews. Dan doesn't appear to have the driving experience to fully exploit the abilities of a car like this, how can he really understand what is happening at or beyond the limit. Jethro portrays the full spectrum of the cars personality because he can drive its wheels off and his enthusiasm and enjoyment shines through.
2015 R8 actually looks like it was an Old Concept for the previous generation R8. The R8 LMX looks years ahead of the 610hp R8 V10 Plus.
OMG I want that car so bad!!! I love the blue!!!
I never liked the old model, but hey this one looks pretty good.
amazing car
Nice review. This new R8 is not surprising at all, especially the exterior look. It is really the twin of the Huracàn, more than the old R8 and Gallardo. The only bad thing about this supercar for me is the price, very near from the start price of the Ferrari 488 GTB...
I really want to see this car versus the Huracan. Both seems to be awesome cars
I know it was getting dark at the track but why no footage from outside the car...? Because the driver can't control it like some of his contemporaries?
Trust me if you see this car in person you will be blown away.
"Let's put the gear box in automatic mode." Sad panda.
It's not a Honda, you don't need to bounce the redline between shifts lol.
Great video. But why don't you show us more the interior and the new techy stuff. Also, it wouldn't hurt to point out some negatives about the car. Its nice to have a balanced review from time to time. But again thanks for the video.
Pitch black?
prize?
Enjoyed the vid. Could you spend a bit more time showing the interior next time?
At 5:54 that road bump was massive when we got it fast in the other direction haha
Much better analysis than his colleagues at Evo. What a great guy, so factual!
8,700... Love it
Love the new steering wheel.
I prefer the older R8 but this one is decent looking as well
Ausfahrt.tv Look at this, the exact car you had for a review! :-)
2:53 I thought there was this great transition talking about how the car goes from loud and 'supercar'-like to quiet and supple... and then the clip is of the R8 going full bore. Just a nuance I thought was an editing miss. Nice video. Nice car.
Why does he keep hitting the rev limiter
Almost expected them to say "but the golf R, that's the better car"
This is essentially a Lamborghini Huracan with an Audi badge. Now I can see the point in all this platform sharing within big car companys at lower levels like the Polo vs. Fabia vs. Ibiza vs. A1 etc. But I am not sure, it will really work in the long run, when you want to charge 140.000 £ for your cars.
It uses the same Haldex AWD, the torque transfer is slow and still put so much power at the front even it's a RWD biased AWD. More throttle= push, coz power will be sent to the front when it start over steer, they really need to turn hard and gain some slides from turn in to balance the under steering rate. Audi's engineer is kind of strange, they make light cars handles bulky.

TheEryk03 I don't even respect or care about you (based on knowledge), ok R8 is a perfect supercar, then disprove my handling statement I'll give you 6 mins then I'll leave.
...but will it blend?
To be honest, an 8K+ rev limit isn't all that astonishing or some benchmark for a 5.2L especially since its a V10. Meaning the pistons are smaller, therefore lighter, and of course its stroke is probably 2/3's the length of the bores width (which pretty much goes without saying when its a high revving engine) so now those already small pistons are barely traveling up and down (an exaggeration of an over square bore are F1 cars which likely have bores twice as wide as the strokes are long [reason for doing this, they use small displacement engines to keep weight down so to get any real power they have to spin the shit out of them and in a car weighing just over 1K lbs low end torque is undesirable otherwise they would just light up the tires due to the RPM's needed for launching or accelerating from a stop since their clutches create so much friction. Also its easier to manipulate fuel consumption with a small engine that needs to be revved to makes power.
RANDOM CAPTIONS seem to be deliberately placed to be as distracting as possible.
