I wish we could have gotten a deep dive into the rebuild process as I think many people would like to understand how much R&D and labor went into these. Most people seem to think Prodrive just ordered some gearbox and coilovers and some bodywork and screwed it all together. I think this car is hiding a lot of R&D and manhours and I would love to see what went into making these cars happen.

They didnt pay homage to the street car WRX, they paid homage to the WRC car that they built for Colin Mcrae and that is a competition rallycar not a econobox semi-sportscar. When a company like Prodrive is tasked to do a nut and bolt rebuild with proprietary parts it´s not going to be cheap how ever you look at it as they could have spent that time building actual rally cars which cost the same.

i've never seen anybody driving a car in a review so obviously being shaken around by the absolute lack of suspension as Meaden! He could hardly speak. I used to own an 03 plate WRX from new, which I had the Subaru garage add the Provide Performance Pack, and since the suspension was too soft the stiffer springs which I didn't know lowered the car too. In addition STi wheels that came off the WR1 when that came in to the country. This combination was excellent. Far better throttle response with less pronounced turbo lag and smoother from off boost and into boost. Road holding with the RE070 tyres was excellent, but the spring kit was just perfect for the local B roads. Better body control, which I was looking for, but able to absorb all the bumps. Yet still a comfortable drive. Probably quite unique combination but it really suited the car and the car really suited the roads around me. I miss that car.

What's great for the average punter is that 90% of what Meaden said about this car could be applied to a factory GC8 Type RA or R, at 1/20th of the price. Plus you get one of the most tactile manual gearboxes of all time in those. They ride beautifully as well, and are devoid of all the modern driver assist that buffer driver from machine. I have an RA and each time I drive it I'm smitten again; tactile, agile, balanced and so direct. My ultimate road car.

I recall marshalling on Rally GB in 2000 and seeing these cars on full chat over the Halfway stage and on other stages. It was Petter Solberg, Juha Kankkunen and Richard Burns who were driving for the works team. I guess the suspension is a bit stiff as it seems to be making you sound like Audrey Hepburn in her later years.

Amazing car, slightly (for now) out of my budget but I imagine it must be bollocks to drive ! You guys at EVO should consider an all GrA rally car test (like in the old days with the numerous Impreza and Eco road tests....). But for this one you should take all the eye watering expensive but magnificent remakes. The P25 ,Best Impreza, Maturo Lancia Delta, Redux M3 to name a few, there are more out there....and compare them with their (OEM) grandfathers.... Should be an intresting test.

Scania lorries use a single paddle like this, i always felt it was the best system on lorries (for changing gear, the actual Volvo gearbox is better) and i saw it on a video of a wrc i car and since then I've always wondered why cars don't use this system since it works so well.

It’s the cost of doing something like this (plus vat) of course. Low volume projects like this are always going to be huge money because of design/engineering and other fixed costs being split over a tiny number of units. I suspect even at that money it will be a decent investment. Probably better than a Singer 911!

  • @OnTrackDetailing

@@baronvonteuchter1412 Of course. Totally understand the volume aspect of it and being someone who offers a boutique high end service at a premium price myself I totally get it may be hypocritical of me to comment on the price But, as I said, car should be priced based on end result. Engineering on this car isn't crazy from what I can tell. Gearbox you can buy, I think it's 12k from my previous search. The bodywork is the most expensive piece. ProDrive are making good money or they wouldn't do it, plus not forgetting their previous experience in the cars so they will have a lot of previous fab data. If you are a true Subaru fan / Colin lover then buying any Supercar this side of a Koenigsegg and a genuine Subary rally car is surely a better spend of the same money? Just my opinion of course 🙏 The car looks epic but there's no way anyone is buying one of these to use, it is yet another Investment piece.

I'm all in when it comes to pure, analogue driving experience, but no brake assist and no abs seems a bit murderous in a car that has 400 bhp and 600 Nm of torque. Also, I fail to understand how those systems interfere with the driving experience.

  • @mitch_gf8

No brake booster or ABS is true to how a rally car is setup. With the proper driver skill you can be a huge amount quicker and gain more control of the car without them. With no brake booster the braking force is linear and completely in relation to the force you exert, and not having ABS to lengthen your brake distances is very helpful. It would be a fun car for sure with a conventional setup but the way they have done it really allows you to drive to the limit
