650S is now the entry level mclaren, no more 12c. speciale is being compared because it has less hp but still is a better, quicker car and it's just the latest out right now. In theory a brand new car should be the top dog but lambo is always a bit behind.

Cause the 458 is nearly five years old, which means Lamborghini had five years to improve upon the best aspects of the Italia. Also the Huracan is technically more powerful than the Speciale.

This guy knows how to review cars. Drives them fast and pushes them hard, but also gives great feedback on how the car behaves. Love it.

WHY DOES HE KEEP COMPARING IT TO A SPECIALE??? not only is the the BASE huracan, it's all wheel drive.. poor analysis of the car considering where it sits in the model range... at the bottom. this looks like the best double clutch i've ever seen, and it looked like purely the best of both worlds: audi and lamborghini.

Because the Speciale is Ferrari's most recent model and the Huracan is Lamborgini's most recent car. A comparison to the 458 would be irrelevant because it is already quite 'old', the 458 was unveiled in september 2009. It's pretty obvious, actually.

Petrolheadish But the Huracan costs about $60,000 less (estimated) from the Speciale, not to mention the fact that the Speciale is a track-focused version of the 458. I understand that the Speciale is more recent, but that doesn't make it fair to compare it directly to the non-track-focused Huracan. Actually, in Autocar's first drive video, they specifically mention that it's NOT a direct rival to the Speciale. Just food for thought.

Petrolheadish completely disagree. lambo has just stepped their pedigree up to the dual clutch standard and now this car is a fit competitor for the 458. ferrari is just years ahead.. you don't just compare th newest models they're in different weight classes.

I agree that you shouldn't compare it to the Speciale because the Speciale is the track XX version of the Italia. But did you guys ever think about the fact that Lamborghini has to make V10s to compete to Ferraris V8s? If you stop and think about it the V8 Ferraris shouldn't be compared to the V10 Lambos, the Lambos have (in my opinion) the obligation of being higher-end, better and faster. I know the price of a V8 Ferrari is higher than almost every other V8 car but Ferrari needs to maintain the brand and the Audi partnership help Lamborghini with shared tech and lower costs. Bottom line the Lambo shouldn't be compared to the V8 Ferrari it should always be better, faster and meaner if it isn't, I'm sorry but you should by the Ferrari.

I don't really get why he keeps comparing is to the Speciale, thats a upscaled version of the 458, which we all know there will be like 10 of those for this new case. Hold on and you'll see.

I think it looks great man, it seems to have a sense of class. I would be a very happy chappy to have the opportunity to own one. Unfortunately that's never going to happen haha.

This car has let me down. After seeing how massive of a step the mental Aventador was from the Murcielago, I expected something similar. It's a brand new car but overall I think it's worse than the 5 year-old 458. That car is still up there for me. So amazing!

Adam Leath That's why we should be watching a few. If they're all saying similar things they're not biased. And btw, the Aventador is massively better than the Murc. In every single aspect. That car is a beast. Regarding Porsche, you need to understand their design language. Engineering-wise they're absolutely stunning!

Nice car, but somehow it just doesn't get me. Waiting to drive this thing though (have a contact who can offer me test drives on the Hungaroring on test days). After the Aventador, which made me love Lambo just as much as Ferrari, I expected something more impressive. This seems like a re-built Gallardo for me, while the Aventador was all new, nothing like the Murcielago. The 458 is my all time favorite car, so that might be a part of my opinion though...

It's not gonna take 10 years till Lambo will bring out the hardcore versions, that's for sure.

I don't understand why are there so many people hating on this car. I'm a die-hard Porsche fan specially of the higher end 911s like the GT3, GT2 and Turbo models, and I think this is a fantastic car. Of course people will bring up "racing heritage" and "passion" when talking about Lamborghinis. Just because Lamborghini doesn't have a racing background like Porsche and Ferrari do, doesn't make their supercars bad. I mean this is a car that has all-wheel drive, 602bhp, does 0-62 mph in 3.2s and that's just the tip of the iceberg. You really don't have to drive one to realize what a monster it is. Most people who say Lamborghinis aren't as good as Ferraris haven't driven either cars. Well maybe they did. Probably in Forza or GT5. In the end of the day Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Porsches are all good in their own way.

Most say that this car is not that amazing especially because of understeer and breaks, but motor-trend just recently reviewed it and it was really selling the car being much better than ferraris and pretty much any other car in the world. The track times are extremely good though, even better than nismo gtr, 911 turbo s... Who is lying?

Quicker than the 911 turbo s around track? I don't know of any tracks the 991 turbo s wouldn't beat the Huracan on, it's stupid quick around track! So I guess we know who's lieng.

How can anyone, especially the designers, look at that rear end and say YEP BETTER THAN THE GALLARDO. I mean come on did they just glue that plastic diffuser to it? Why does it have 2 rear grilles? COME ON. The last gallardos were so track/gt oriented and then they go and make the new one "usable"?

I don't think people understand the point of Lamborghini or the Huracan. Same thing with Audi. Are the brands the best performing cars? No. Are they the fastest? No. However, do they blend luxury, style, and speed almost perfectly? Yes! The Huracan looks stunning and the interior is just badass. I don't care if it isn't as a McLaren or Ferrari. Even though I like McLaren a lot I think Lambo wins in the style and speciality category. It just *feels* more special.

Dude why the fudge are you comparing this to the Speciale? This is the base Huracan. Also, it shouldn't be compared to the 650S even though the 12C was discontinued. When a more hardcore variant becomes available, compare that to the 458 Speciale.

Bearing in mind the Muira and the LP400, the design of the Huracan is best described as conservative and lacking in the flair synonymous with the best Italian designs. Not sure who designed the Huracan. It certainly lacks the subtle ferocious beauty of the older Gandini led designs and latest Pininfarina masterpiece the 458 Italia. As for the driving experience, well, it seems like there is is too much under-steer worked in to the set up of this car. You can actually and quite clearly see the under-steer working its way around corners in these shots. Not the last word in precision and fun, surely. Leave aside the Speciale for a minute. The Italia is bound to be more fun to drive and undercuts the cost of this car. For the price Audi is asking for this car, there are better alternatives out there so I can only imagine that only someone who really dislikes Ferrari and McLaren or really wants the Lamborghini badge would opt for this. They'd not only miss out on the fun, but they'd end up with a badged-up Audi.

Lamborghini has been making their cars boring, not Audi. Audi just does the infotainment system and they leave everything else to Lamborghini. It is more so the consumers fault for ruining the brand. The manual transmission and the rawness of cars are all disappearing due to the consumers.

Porsche 911 The old Lamborghini would have made the car on their own. The problem with listening to customers is they don't always want what they think they want. Especially when salespeople are involved. Under Audi they're there just to make money. The cars are still nice but they do seem like they're going the way of design by committee. By that I mean instead of the engineers and designers giving us a car we're getting something along those lines but with bias toward what the last customers ordered/said. No manual option gives that one away pretty blatantly. The auto is an easy sell for a salesman because on paper it's better. Better acceleration and easy to sit in traffic. In reality a lot of owners make that decision on the sales patter and it being the latest thing to have a dual clutch in the car. That is then transferred into data and the next car gets designed with no manual - even though a lot of owners may have prefered it if they had driven it. Now if the car was something like a Mondeo where it's ultra mass market and relatively cheap I could understand only developing one 'box. I really can't see why they wouldn't offer a manual on a £200k supercar unless it is to save a few quid in development. Manual sales may have been going downhill but I think they would have come back in time once the dual clutch fad is over. They would be in a minority but Lamborghini of old would have been happy to sell a few cars to enthusiasts. In this case best business practice has denied some people one of the core values of Lamborghini - it's eccentricity. In the short term that's a loss to petrolheads but in the long term they run the risk of becoming just another supercar maker. If that happens what's their USP over others. Infact with this very car what's it got to justify the price leap over a far-too-similar-for-the-money R8?

You all blame the companies when in reality, it is all due to the consumers. You give them 2 choices, they all jump for you, you realize the second one is pointless to produce, so you drop it. The 2017 Hurrican just set the record (6:52.01) at the Nürburgring beating the Porsche 918, McLaren p1 and La Ferrari. You might wanna rethink your opinion of this car.

Truth is.. Audi's have never been fiercer or better than they are in this Audi era.

Great review, lots covered in a small amount of time. I however dont think lining it up against the Speciale is a fair comparison. The Huracan is not a track special tuned car. That will come later for sure as mentioned in the review. Revisit that topic then. For now I'd have to say that this looks like a good evolution for Lambo, the addition of the double clutch was way overdue.

wtf is wrong with today's reviewers? when i car has a single clutch they go on about how engaging that is blah blah blah, now we a dual clutch and they suddenly bash single clutch and call it rubbish? seriously?

I think he was talking about the automated manual single clutch gearbox of the former car. When they talk about engaging they talk about a stick shifter

well, the reviewers used to talk about, "the wonderful crude jolt from the lightweight single-clutch gearbox." many said they liked it more than a dual clutch! Now it is backwards! I think the origional commentor has a good point.

I dissagree with his statements. To me, Lamborghini died with the Murcielago. It was the last good lambo. Yes, it could've looked better and yes manual and RWD would've helped but it still retained the symphonic V12 sountrack. The Aventador sounds like a straight piped 911. It really does. The Gallardo and Hurucan V10's sound weak and the perfect 5th interval annoys my ears after 5 mins. if you made me get a lambo, id get a Miura, a Cala, and a Diablo GT. All were awesome. People can hate on the Chrysler period, but Chrysler fed Lamborghini money and told them to be who they are. That is how someone should own Lamborghini or Ferrari. Screw the VW/Audi group.

Cala was a concept car no one owns one, shame though really nice car. I hate on VAG too, too concerned with neutral design and fake engine sound, over priced fashion statements for the unimaginative. They'll prove to be the death of the car industry once they buy out bmw I'm sure. fuck everything to do with Audi/VW but I gotta admit I find that Huracan so sexy I could weep

Actually, a guy in Italy owns the Cala. It is possibly the best looking car that I've ever seen. (and I've seen the Veneno, 918, P1, 250GTO, 917K, Miura S, all in person). I like the hurucan more than the Gallardo. To me, the hurucan is what the Murcielago should've looked like. The Hurucan would be awesome with a Bizzarrini V12!!!

An aventador sounds NOTHING like a 911 . Straight pipes or not , You need to get your ears checked pal ! . Though I agree the Murcielago has to be the best sounding lambo ever.

well, technically, it had headers, but it had a cat bypass as well. That was what changed the sound the most. That Green GT3 RS sounded EXACTLY like an Aventador. Actually, ten major Porsche club members asked me if there was an Aventador on the track. I told them that it was a 997 GT3RS and they were in shock. It may have been a one-off exhaust setup (it wasn't street legal at all) but I know what my ears heard.

offitcock hmm so you think reliability, comfort and having a car that won´t kill you is a bad thing? most of you dont care about those things, but i think those things are really important if you arent the guy that uses the car always at its limits

I'm due for a december delivery on my white huracan. Went with the normal steering instead of the variable ratio steering. Can anybody give me any thoughts on my decision?

He did all that bitching about the car in the beginning... But its Faster than the McLaren650S on several tracks & as quick as the old Aventador! Which had 91HP more, yet HALF the price or so! WTF MORE DOES ONE WANT!!!? Natural Aspiration 600+HP 2.8sec 0-60mph 1/4mile 10.6secs (which IS quicker than the 650S!)

Lamborgini is for rich people who want to show it off and know nothing about cars. They have great engines but whats the point if it has a "safe" under steering chassis

I think people forget that the 458 is at, or near the end of it's life cycle hence the Speciale comparison.

Question: Why did you keep comparing it with the Speciale? The direct competitor is the regular 458 Italia. Wait until a Superlegerra version of this Huracan comes out before you start comparing with those track version comparisons.

Lambo is not made to drive fast only to look fast. It is for ricers of exotic car world

Krunal Rindani Ferrari and Mclaren have racing heritage and build race cars. Lamborghini builds cars for the roads. You can drive one every single day in any weather condition. The Hurcan will out sell the 650s and the 458.

I wouldn't say that Lamborghini has racing "heritage". However, they do have their own events like Super Trofeo etc, and they don't have an F1 team. The previous-gen Lambos were way more difficult to drive (According to the reviewers) compared to their Ferrari and McLaren equivalents. McLaren cars have proven to be more comfortable, refined, and faster than Ferrari and Lamborghini. Hence, I'd say that The 650S will be close in terms of sales figures (Heck, it could even sell more than the Huracan) with the Huracan. I'd expect the 458 to lag behind (The Speciale may help to generate sales) until Ferrari comes up with a replacement for it.

My WRX would shit on this...

My Altima would shit on both.

Idc if its better than a speciale 458 or whatever. I love the v10, the interior, and the exterior to the max. this car is a masterpiece and it's easily my favorite lamborghini up there with the Miura and Diablo.

I like this car and it's a cool idea that you can change the modes just down on the steering wheel I liked that on 458 aswell. But there's something missing that can't me measured on paper. And that's how good they drive.

This car wasn't made to be the fastest or the best handling, it's purely for the sound and looks
