Ashtanga Yoga - 8 Limbs of Yoga | Yoga Teacher Training | Anvita Dixit

Yoga is often misunderstood to only mean asanas, and this is as far from the truth as can be! An asana’s primary purpose is to keep your body in a meditative state for an extended period of time. The more you practice asanas, the more agile and flexible your body becomes. Thus, eventually, it helps you sit in a meditative posture for longer, and you start experiencing yourself and the object of meditation becoming one. This progression of Yoga and asana as a stepping stone has been explained in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras.
According to Muni Patanjali, there are eight prominent steps on the path of Yoga:
1)Yama (Social Discipline)
2) Niyama (Self Discipline)
3) Asana (Physical Postures)
4) Pranayama (Breathing Practices)
5) Pratyahara (Withdrawal of the senses)
6) Dharana (Concentration)
7) Dhyana (One Pointed Concentration/Meditation
8) Samadhi (Complete Integration / Self Actualisation)
These 8 steps form the very basis of Yoga and their aim is to enable humans to harness ourselves as instruments, maximise our potential and determine who we truly are. Therefore, understanding the vast theoretical Yogic literature and applying its practices as a lifestyle is essential to unlocking the science of the self!

About Yogic Gurukul:
🙏🏼 All things Yoga, philosophy, and spirituality.
Yogic Gurukul aims to provide online Yoga education through videos, books, and workshops - all centered on classical Yoga philosophy and Indian culture. We believe that the spiritual teachings of Yoga are an essential human need and help us to know ourselves from the inside out. To us, Yoga is much more than just a physical asana practice - it is a mental and spiritual process - catalysed through philosophical study, meditation and pranayama. Our aim is to teach a holistic Yoga practice, and be able to transfer the knowledge of Yoga as presented in the Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagavad Geeta and Hatha Yogic Texts.

Man -made Yoga is Patanjali Yoga which has 8 limbs, but God's Yoga taught to Kalki Avatar has only 5 limbs. Everyone is stuck in Nyam which is very difficult to learn. It takes a long time to learn all the Dharma of God. Unless you are acquaint with His Dharma and practice them you can never become a yogi
