Me playing on a Switch Lite: 💀 I litteraly can't play with motion controls without having to move the whole console around and I dont own an additional controller

Sharing a boat, I have found my people. [Switch lite with double/backwards drift and can't use motion controls because it messes with my vertigo. don't ask me how I play, even i don't know

I play on the lite and i use motion controls only imo you really aren't moving the console around too much motion only stops the right stick from looking up and down and you're only doing slight movements anyways so after a while quick snaps aren't as jarring as it first seems idk its my main way i play the oled gets heavy after a while.

If the issue with motion controls is moving the console too much, just increase the sensitivity. The higher you raise it, the less you have to move in order to aim.

I play handheld motion and moving the console feels like half the reason it actually works.
Let me end this debate once and for ALL 🔥 If you like motion play motion If you like sticks play sticks If you like both play motion

Eh Metroid Prime Remastered did motion right with the hybrid controls. I wish Splatoon had the Hybrid feature.
As someone who's a veteran Splatoon player that has always played sticks.... motion controls is 100% better. I want to transition to motion controls but every time I try motion I immediately loose all motivation to do it and go straight back to sticks 😭
@fififeefee

Very similar for me but i just stuck with it. I used to play sticks from splatoon 1 until i switched in splatoon 3 and i got SO much better trust me maybe you just gotta get through it, like you'll suck at the beginning and then you'll improve alot
@justsplat

Put your motion sensitivity very slow so that it doesnt mess with you too much at first and slowly turn it up over time

@justsplat yes definitely! i started with lower sensitivity as well and gradually increased it over time until I felt comfortable

Yes, I met a sticks player irl and they killed my dog with the sticks. I don't even have a dog. Literally the worst!
For me playing handheld, it feels way better than playing docked. Like the game just straight up feels more responsive to me when I'm looking at the switch screen instead of a TV. At least when the controllers work anyway (of course handheld is much more prone to stick drift or other hardware issues). I might be weird but don't lump me in with stick players lol

a lot of TV and some monitor (but especially tv) default settings will sacrifice response time for picture quality. It might be worth checking your TV to see if it has a "low latency" or "game mode" setting, if it does i guarantee it will feel a lot more responsive than it currently does
@mollylarsen9812

@SilverRyuu

Most TVsa re less responsive. I play on a gaming monitor and whenever I've switched to a TV it's felt awful. Even with game modes, it felt more responsive but not as much as a decent monitor
I’m a handheld player and have 999 on all salmon run maps. But yeah, I can see a pro controller player losing their minds with handheld.
I turned off motion controls pretty much as soon as I got the game, because the only game I had played with motion controls for the camera was botw, which worked very differently. When I changes back to motion controls a few months ago, I felt so free. 10/10 would recomend.
I don’t care about stick or motion controls because I can’t hit people when I’m dead before I even get a chance to hit them
Why does everyone say handheld is bad? I tried playing on tv once and I could NOT aim at all it was awful
@SilverRyuu
Ай бұрын
DUDE would agree with that. TVs tend to have a slower response time so switching from handheld to a standard TV would introduce a ton of sluggishness. I've experienced the same and hate playing on TV. A good monitor is a night and day experience. Doesn't need to be a gaming monitor, it just needs decent response time
@johnalexanderaylward

@@SilverRyuu I tried monitor too, you're right that it's better but I still couldn't aim very good.

Handheld isnt optimal by any means but I wouldnt write it off as the most unoptimal way to play. Im no DUDE but Ive been playing since splatoon 1 as well and have many hours playing both handheld and controller. I find that when playing handheld its best to lower the sensitivity but you can totally play great at a high level with both handheld and controller. Ive been top 500 multiple times using handheld. Obviously do what you want but I wanted to clarify you Can be really good with both and its not as impossible as people make it seem. Just find the sensitivity thats right for you and keep playing

If the other ways of playing are more optimal, then it is the least optimal way to play. Whether or not you can still keep up is completely irrelevant.
@4Grampus
Ай бұрын
@kylemsguy_ That's a fair point! I guess would argue that sticks is the least optimal as handheld still offers the fluid movement of gyro controller. As far as keeping up I would say that it is relevant as my main point is that it's not as bad as people are claiming.
Me, who plays with motion controls on handheld:
Speaking as someone who does both of these things... rude title. But, genuinely, I can't use motion controls to save my life. It just feels awkward to me and I tend to move around a bit when I'm playing Switch games in general, so the gyro is a no go. And, yeah, I mostly play in handheld. I do better in handheld, somehow. Think it has something to do with my eyesight...
I use sticks but have wanted to get into motion, but can't seem to get the hang of it unfortunately

What you're going through is normal. Most of Splatoon 2, I was sticks-only because I could not get it. It felt really awkward and clumsy for me. People kept telling me how awesome it was and how easy it was to pick up, so I never stopped thinking about it. One day I told myself I will master it, no matter what. Took many days out of the month to do it. It took me around ~120 hours to go... oh shit I am getting it. It is just hard as hell at the beginning because you are still mastering movement, understanding the game mechanics, the modes, etc. My tips: -You use both sticks and motion together. Sticks for big left and right movements. Motion for everything else. -Pro controller if you can. The joycon buttons are small (and cramped) and the sticks are very easy to break. Doable but they hurt my hands after awhile, and I don't even have big hands. -Pick a shooter weapon like the nzap, it is the best weapon to learn motion with. -Salmon run is so good at learning motion. -You will need to find out a good sensitivity for you that fits for you. I settled on one that works for me universally, but chargers are the only weapon I bring the sensitivity way down. -GOOD LUCK!

@@Taxafolia It was great to hear your little throwback bud ! And thx for the tips, i might try to get back to motion one day, it's just "taking the time" part that i couldn't do, i'm a bit of an impatient guy when it comes to this, i get frustrated quickly :/ Until then, have a good day ! :)
When you can’t use motion controls because you’ll feel sick after using it:
This is great and all... BUT I HAVE A FREAKING SWITCH LITE FOR SOME REASON
My TV/monitors have too much input delay to reliably react to things so I play handheld unless I'm doing X rank in which case I take a pro controller and use tabletop. Super excited for the rumored 10 inch switch 2 for this reason.
I feel that certain weapons definitely require motions to get the most out of it
I’m here for the “Dude is a liar, he told me to play sticks” charade. 🤣🤣🤣
But at least Stick players are able to park in Handicap parking spots irl
This is actually the biggest problem I have with Splatoon 3, the massive quality disparity between the two control styles. Literally why does one have have to be better than the other? And I'm not saying that as in people *think* one is better than the other, I'm asking why has the Splatoon dev team made it so gyro controls are objectively better? When people talk about playing sticks, the common consensus is that "you do you, but just know that you are playing suboptimally, and if you want to make it big, you'll have to change to gyro". Well what about the people who literally can't play gyro controls because of physical disabilities? People with chronic arthritis or overly stiff joints? In the current system, the only response to these people is "Sucks to be you, guess you'll never be able to make it." Throughout all of the discourse on this topic, there is an overwhelming feeling that the system we have now, where gyro is inherently better than sticks, is the only way it ever *could be*. But why? This isn't the only way, they *could* improv sticks so it's on-par with gyro. To make the game more accessible for those who may be less fortunately-abled than others, or people who just want to play sticks. Why are they put at an inherent disadvantage because of how they want to play? Isn't self-expression what Splatoon is all about? We deserve better as a community and we *can* get better. We just have to realize that and ask as a community for change. Balance the control styles. The way it is now, it's only limiting, both to the disabled and just people who want to play their way
Plays all games from Switch on Tabletop mode: It's the closest thing to a CRT TV for me.
As a handheld, sticks, inkbrush main I KNOW I’ll never do competitive lmaooo
Im in high A struggling, but making progress, and Ive only ever played handheld, I have a huge TV I never use, and 3 moniters, so I could probably have a splatoon monitor or use the tv, hopefully I can finally get out of A lol
Wish I could play motion but I can’t even play 2 rounds with it without needing to put a wrist brace on and passing out lol
Growing up play S1 I just developed the muscle memory of the game pad way of playing (cause you could only play with the pad) so when S2 rolled out I found it comfier to hold the console like I did the gamepad previously. And for some reason it just feels like the motion controls are better on handheld and suck booty cheeks on the TV
I play exclusively in handheld, and that’s all because of the Wii U giving me some bad habits. Now I find it difficult to play Splatoon when the screen isn’t close to me, I require the weight in my hand to better gauge how well I’m aiming. It’s a bit hard to describe, when I first started playing I tried using sticks, I stopped using sticks. Trying to aim with sticks only now feels like torture, it took me a bit to adjust the settings to get the aiming to be just right, nowadays I can usually perform pretty well if not just as good as everyone else when in handheld. I mainly like it because I like using my earbuds and without it being in handheld I can’t use them, I don’t have wireless ones after all. I just wish Nintendo would release a pro controller with an auxiliary port like the DualShock 4 controller has, or even like some third party Switch Pro Controllers have.
As a sticks player I have committed millions of war crimes around the world
i cant play motion because my pro controller cant use it
Was not expecting the Pikachu hate. Dude how could you :(
Don’t you dare call me a terrible person
I literally cannot fathom how you play on a monitor. I feel the same way about it that I do with stick controls.
You need to do a stream using sticks in handheld
I remember my friend introducing be too splatoon playing hand held standing up and spinning around in one place just so I can aim with gyro lmao.😵💫
I was a stick player for years, tried to get used to gyro, I always gave up, at some point I wanted to try it out one last time and it felt much better, long story short I only play gyro now and am much better than before
I use handheld to play my switch and its kinda hard for me to transition to a tv, because the controllers are shaky (I know I spelled that wrong)
I play handheld because I don’t have a pro controller with motion💔 It is very uncomfortable; you can’t aim when you can’t see, you can’t use motion controls on handheld and see at the same time. It means I can’t read a lot of the situations and play the best. I play alright for a casual but it is hard to play more competitive when you can’t see half the time lolol. I think I do have a second pro controller with motion but most of the time I can’t be bothered to break it out and get used to it instead of handheld. I may use handheld to play splatoon but know that I don’t enjoy it all that much🕺
I could learn how to use motion controls I could also go into the forest and try to make friends with a grizzly bear and my hands are too shaky so I guess it's time to get friendly with a bear
I exclusively play on handheld but I know it's suboptimal, I just like being the only one who can see and hear my games This is a game, if you don't wanna play competitively then it's perfectly fine to be suboptimal, that isn't an insult Also I agree that Pikachu is the worst starter, Bulbasaur is way cuter and can evolve no matter what and gets plenty of good moves

Idk man I got a few new squiffer quads on handheld before, might be a skill issue

Ive been playing handheld for so long that I just aim worse on docked mode. I think its the same for you but opposite. (So used to docked you cant use handheld)
I always play handheld 💀 I just suck if I play it differently
my streamer told me to buy pokemon yellow and play pikachu
I play handheld with motion controls...
splatoon3 handheld is way better than splatoon 2 handheld. In 2 you couldn't lay down and play you had to sit up but now you can lay down and reseting the motion controls levels out perfectly.
as somebody who strictly plays stick and handheld i can confirm i am a very good high level player
Going between handheld and controller barely takes any getting used to for me and it's basically the same. Sounds like a skill issue tbh. Sticks are just straight up less capable of letting you aim quickly, though.
i’m a stick player and motion is better i keep telling myself to learn it but then i give up like 20 minutes later since i can’t do it😭
switching to sticks feels wrong because using sticks with motion actually function differently. with motion on, stick camera movement has deceleration before it reaches a full stop. but motion off makes the sticks extremely rigid. i think it’s an important design choice that other games’ motion controls dont get right
wait what's so bad about handheld with motion? Genuinely curious as to the reason, not trying to be defensive or anything

You (effectively) have to move your screen to move your camera, which can be disorienting.
