it also has to do with the fact that hate gets clicks. places like twitter still exist purely off people being negative about literally anything

Yeah, the problem with Twitter is that there is no negative way to respond to something, no dislike or downvote. If you call someone out for something, that just makes the post shown to more people.

Definitely true, the toxicity only comes from a small minority of the community. Unfortunately those who are toxic are rather loud.

I play Ink, Octobrush and Forge Pro, I've seen alot of people dog people for playing certain weapons but in the end of the day it's the internet I just focus and master the weapon I'm playing without giving the community attention

Contrary to popular believe it’s the “competitive” casuals that are the most toxic individuals. Especially when talking about which idol is best.

Every multiplayer game has some sort of level of toxicity. From ego, to trolling. But from what Ive seen, Splatoon's toxicity is nowhere near as toxic as other games. I mean your never gonna find a shooter game where t-bagging isnt a thing. Taunting is just part of any game But Splatoon and its community has a different feeling. In fact Id argue this game and its community feels like its inviting you to play.

Speaking from experience as a Day 1 Splatoon player, is it me or have I NEVER seen the community be toxic in the slightest? Through all my years of sinking countless hours into each game and taking long breaks to eventually come back to it I still can't seem to recount any toxicity. Even where I engage in competitive spaces and games yet also play casually I still don't see how this community seems to be toxic in a way. Aside from outliers (cough cough Mr. 12), there really hasn't been anything. Maybe it's just me being lucky to not run into such individuals, but most of the Splatoon community has been extremely tame compared to others.

The Splatoon community has 3 sides. A chill competitive and analytical side, a small but unfortunately loud toxic side, and a silly and gay side. I don't know about you all, but I'm definitely part of the silly and gay side :3

The best community I was a part of pretty much is still around, but unfortunately I haven’t reconnected with everyone after the game Harry Potter Wizards Unite ended a few years ago. I loved playing games with others and meeting them in person. Even though I haven’t been a part of the Splatoon community until recently I don’t think of it as toxic. There will always be a difference of opinion, but I think there will be some sort of conflict which people think of it as being toxic. I have temporarily stepped away from one community that is having some drama going on. I am participating a little bit, but I’m on a break from playing that game series since I’m loving playing Splatoon 3.

Splatoon is probably one of the most spoiled gaming communities, and everyone is so ungreatful for the updates plus we just got side order and people still want more dlc content and every season they have to complain about something. I don't even have twitter to see more of the toxic side of the community but from what I've seen so far, I can see that most of the people want updates like, every week?! We don't get many updates as other games but when we get it we actually get good ones (my opinion)

I can honestly see where this is coming from Competitive players need to hone their mindset and dedicate themselves to get good at the game and that includes dealing with critique (coaching) and days when you just play worse as compared to others, so they'd usually be able to deal with problems in a more mature manner Casuals meanwhile would likely just complain (e.g. "e litre broken!!!!")

@@Rubellite-jq2kgthe third game itself caters far more to the competitive crowd. They sort of have a valid reason to be toxic regarding a series that used to be easy to pick up for any gamer to enjoy

Splatoon is not a toxic "yet" community because it's a relatively young franchise but given enough time and people it starts to develop cancer just like every other IP

I honestly feel like the Splatoon community is toxic not for the reasons other communities are toxic. I don't even have twitter so none of the twitter points even have any effect in what I'm gonna say. This community is so ungrateful and creates more problems for themselves. Every patch, every season and kit there's always more people than not who complain about everything. Like even if players don't get the kit they want, the doomposting is insane, we still get new content every 3 months with balance changes every 1.5 months, plus DLC coming in a couple days meanwhile people are still complaining saying the game is dying, and the top players/ content creators aren't helping, specifically chara, he's very pessimistic on the game and his community is so blindly following to the point where it messes up the whole community. Seriously prochara fans might be one of the most toxic gaming youtuber fanbases I've ever seen. Not only that, but the top players are creating more issues than there should be. You know how people keep complaining about pencil? Well it wouldn't be as big of an issue had the rulesets not been ZONES ONLY. They then complain about the game not being balanced around zones only, and that creates problems within itself, dividing both sides of the community further. This community is seriously so spoiled and creates half the problems the game has. Just because the community is not as toxic as COD doesn't mean its not toxic.

i mean, twitter is like news channels where they just talk about horrific accidents and the worst shit imaginable because it gets people to click on it or watch it. When that's all you see, yeah you'd think the world is falling apart, and it's the same with people talking about splatoon being toxic since the toxicity gets attention.

There are toxic people everywhere, but there are fewer of them than the chill ppl, social media pushes the negativity for engagement. There are no "Man I love and am enjoying the game" viral posts, only the ones about hackers and toxic ppl smh

but exactly those people who constantly complain about the people with bad behavior or even more often the game state, that i pick up as toxic. I want to enjoy the game and socialise a bit about it on the side, but nearly every time i find someone who will start being pedantic about some minor quirk, like 30 minutes in at best. I just don't know where to put myself

The splatoon community would NOT survive being in a casual Halo 3 lobby Being sensitive or desensitized doesn’t inherently make you a good person. With that being said, at least I can pick up and derive some casual enjoyment from Halo Reach and 3, as Halo Infinite is also trying to cater towards more skill based gameplay

Dont forget the saying:the dose is the poison or something like that i dont know the english version. Also the splatoon community is just very weak minded and would need to toughten up a bit, you cant say an entire community is toxic if one person says something slightly offensive sometimes. The community is realy nice though so it might explain why it is so sensitive.
