    "The community is the community and im myself" This is an amazing mentality to have with pretty much any community. You can't control what other people do or say, in or out of communities your in. The best anyone of us can do is hold people accountable when they act shitty. Generalizing an entire community only leads to more misery in most cases

    Exactly, he said it well. It's his stream to do with as he pleases. It sucks to say, but distancing yourself from the fandom and doing your own thing is for the best. Sure it has it's good parts, but the vocal negative minority is not worth sinking your teeth into. As long as you acknowledge the game, and your audience and continue to spread good vibes about the game that's all it takes. There are days when DUDE and Kiver upload and it just motivates me to play Splatoon so much!

    YES. I'm so tired of people generalizing off of the worst examples and just saying "the Splatoon community is bad". Every community has bad apples, and while we absolutely shouldn't ignore them, we shouldn't act like they're the majority of people here. Those people are just a very loud minority.

    Again… it’s enough of the community to be an issue though. It’s not just a “loud minority” it’s more like a loud 1/3rd and then another 1/3rd that’s compliant with it until it personally involves them or offends them.

    The fact that this is such a big deal is a good sign, tbh, yeah. These people being held accountable is exactly what needs to happen. I've seen comments on videos on the same topic going a bit too far in the opposite direction of "Oh man, I can't believe _this_ community out of all of them is like this." when it's just statistics when you go beyond a certain size... Discrimination of any kind is unfortunately still everywhere. Just because Splatoon is comparatively a lot better doesn't mean it's not there. It'd be more than just a little naive to think otherwise.

    Could not have said it better myself. This is exactly why I play the game with an isolated group and in my own bubble, and why I generally don’t like to interact with the community outside of the bubble. So much of this game is keeping a good mindset, and playing with people who give “off” vibes really messes with a good mindset

  • @birdflox1337
    @birdflox13372 ай бұрын

    I think that the mindset of wanting to keep a good image is ironically often the reason why this kind of behavior goes unchecked. People know that if they call out a prominent community member's racism, that will damage the reputation of their favorite game, so they'd rather be blissfully ignorant and act as though nothing is wrong. In reality, every community no matter how illogical it may seem will have terrible people in it, and if the community makes it clear as day who those terrible people are, that's a GOOD thing.

    Generalizations of the worst aspects of a community i participate in have been very common to me, especially during the brony arc. At this point, i am just happy we are calling out individuals for ppor behavior. like he said, at least we're calling this shit out here. I think in most competitive gaming communities, people would respond to this sort of stuff with "boys will be boys" attitude, choosing not to speak up because this is just the way things are. I am still dumbfounded by how it took this long for word to spread, but at least now people are being held accountable.

The stuff that came to light was horrible, but despite saying we're bad at calling things out - look what happened the past few days. It hurt, but it's also a sign that the community IS capable of change. We just have to hold ourselves accountable to hold other people accountable, essentially. That's all we can do.

    When I call something out like those from the lgbt community I get a ton of resistance. They make their sexuality their entire personality and I get tired of this after 5 years. There is no need in shovel it everyone down the throat over and over with their plaza posts. It's just annoying and many stay silent because they are scared to be canceled and have that stigma. You are not allowed to critisize lgbt because they handle it poorly and hate anyone who disagrees with them and has a different opinion. One twitter user just said he doesn't like pride month. One user with a bigger range retweeted it and told to keep canceling those people. I even got into a fight because I used she and her talking about Acht because she as a woman and I don't care what the disingenuous localizer came up with. This is why I despise the Splatoon community and the fact that nobody talks about it makes it worse because this is not a good bahavior. And I know I'll get a ton of resistance because I'm one of those who have a different opinion. Splatoon is full of such narcissists that got too comfortable acting like this and if you ask me I think it's about time to turn the tables and show them some teeth and consequences so they won't get that comfortable again with their bad behavior.

    It’s not even about sexuality. It’s the woke gender religion that is rampant among splatoon fans on the internet. In reality most of us are sane. And this is coming from a gay person so imagine how bad it is. Just play the game like I do and ignore internet warriors.

  • @Velos3

    @@killager6767 That doesn't matter how many sane individuals there are of you if you don't hold them accountable. The loud ones destroy your reputation no matter how sane you are. If you tell someone you're gay then there are going to be some people who will think you are one of these insane individuals. This makes some people afraid to tell their sexuality comfortably when asked. Yes, I know there is this woke agenda too. I would like to ignore them but them being so loud makes it difficult and it gets worse because they are too comfortable behaving like this since no one is talking about them in the Splatoon community. There are no sane individuals in Splatoon it seems otherwise they would hold them accountable by reprimanding and shaming them. But I have never seen anything like this. LGBT is already associated with negative madness that's why some gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgenders, etc. have left the community. This behavior of LGBT will also make the sane people who left look bad. This why I say it over and over again: More need to stand up and hold them accountable, rebuke and shame them. Instead they are being celebrated for it and that encourages them to keep doing that.

    I honestly didn't think you would address this, and you didn't need to because you said it yourself, you do you which is great. I shouldn't have to say this but it is what it is. I hugely respect content creators who enjoy media for what it is, but distance themselves and their content from the dark side of fandoms or fandoms as a whole. Viewers will always throw tantrums when you don't address a certain situation, but honestly? Why should you have to? This is YOUR content, it's YOUR stream, it's YOUR business to do with it as you wish. No content creator should feel pressured into having to address something, especially when it doesn't fit their vibe and the space they are trying to create. We as consumers nowadays are so fixated on other people's opinions that we are unable to think for ourselves. We flock to content creators who say "Murder bad" and shower them with praise for thinking with common sense which is so strange to me. Why do you need a famous youtuber to tell you that crime is bad? You also summed up the entire situation perfectly. Keep calling this shit out, because if nobody does it'll continue and those horrible people will think they are welcome in the community. Also, DUDE, sorry to hear about what you had to go through in the past. I hope it's all behind you, I'm glad pro players like you and Kiver continue to thrive and feel welcomed. Big ups!

    What sucks the most in this specific instance is that it's a group that we were celebrating, who got put into the game, and are now people we have to try to ignore. I hope those 4 grow up and do better but man why'd it have to be them. I hope this serves as a huge example of how NOT to behave, even in DMs or a group chat or whatever... racism casually turns into actual believed racism IRL. It perpetuates that saying slurs is okay. It is disappointing, but I hope that this all happening in such a HUGE way educates people how not to act.
