Are Some Spring Breakers Actually Avoiding Miami?

Apparently, spring breakers are getting the message that Miami Beach is breaking up with them. This year, there’s a massive police presence but very few spring breakers. The early beach closures, DUI checkpoints and bag searches are also putting a further damper on what is a “rite of passage” for college kids. David Wallack, who owns Mango's Tropical Cafe, says he could not be happier. Inside Edition’s Ann Mercogliano has more.

One instance that stood out for me was a student asking me where their package was. I led them to their mail box filled to bursting with advertisements, bills, tax return checks, paychecks, etc. and simply said. “Clean out your assigned mailbox and you will find the parcel locker key that will unlock the parcel locker right next to your mailbox, which in fact is filled with 12 other different packages all addressed to you.” The “why couldn’t you do that?” Question I get from these kids will always get the same reply. “I’m a mail carrier, not your caretaker, you’re what? In your 20s now? And you still need an adult to walk you across the street while holding your hand?”

Actually, Miami Beach is following a formula used by Panama Beach in Spring Break 2023. Their rules, back by thousands of cops, led to a significant reduction in violent crime and property damage compared to the previous year. So far, so good in Miami Beach. We will see how well things turn out by the end of Spring Break. I predict that this will be the most peaceful Spring Break that Miami Beach has had in decades.
