Firefighter Breaks Car Window to Access Blocked Fire Hydrant

A New York City firefighter broke a car's windows to access a blocked fire hydrant. He then threaded the firehose through the car and attached it to the hydrant. They were fighting a major four-alarm blaze in the Bronx that destroyed multiple businesses. As for the owner of the car, reports say he's racked up 33 fire hydrant violations in the last two years. The violations totaled more than $9,000.

    It really doesn't matter if the firefighters COULD have snaked the hose a different way, the point is they don't HAVE to. So the lesson to be learned is simple - don't want your windows smashed out, don't park anywhere near a hydrant. This isn't rocket science.

  • @TwoPlusTwoEqualsFive32

    @TwoPlusTwoEqualsFive32

    Also those hoses need to run in as straight a line as possible to get maximum flow. The more kinks and turns the hose has the worse the water pressure would be. So while it could be "snaked" around the car it would slow the water down. You can try it with a garden hose, add a bunch of kinks and loops to a garden hose and the pressure will be much lower.

Similarly, maneuvering around the back of the vehicle could have caused kinks, further affecting the water pressure.
