    This channel is literally just turning into a therapy and psychology channel about how to have a healthy relationship with yourself and your hobbies, just disguised as a "how to get good at league" channel. So much of what Curtis is talking about can be applied to so many areas in life, it's crazy. It's hard to put into words how useful this content really is!

    You mentioned your Illaoi student. Unlike most bruisers, she is analytical - completely reliant on tentacle setup positioning, and her powerspikes (lvl3, lvl6, lvl7.) DirtyMobs streamed her in Challenger very methodical. He would routinely beat the #1 player in the world TF Blade by methodically carrying out her action plan, while TF Blade relies so much on feel.

    Omg that's amazing...I do almost all of your points mentioned about an analytical player and I'm a Lux main :D bad thing is, I tend to watch too much in-depth guides and read about how to make things work, without actually executing it in a real game. I really like to learn a lot and get as much information as possible but I somehow keep myself from playing too much and I fear not being able to transform my knowledge into gameplay improvement :( Anyway, I love to watch all of your videos, especially the long ones...! Thx :)

    It's funny. My friend is intuitive and play the champs you listed. Me, i'm a scientist and i'm analytical, i exactly played the champs you listed too. I spent more time to think about the game and reviewing than playing. Since i started to play Ahri and Cassio, i improved a looooot. And now i can execute all the things i learnt in my games. That makes me skyrocket to diamond elo. First it was uncomfortable to play these champs, now it's just a need. Good video like always coach and really accurate Imo.

    I'm an ADC and I used to just play the very simple and easy ADCs like Ashe and Miss Fortune, but once I went out of my comfort zone started to play more Samira and Tristana and getting used to playing these more intuitive and scrappy champions my skills in the more standard ADCs went up because my team fighting and 2v2 mechanics started to feel like natural and I could feel out my targets and positioning with less effort and time than it used to take me. I definitely think it really helped me get over my own mental blocks and broaden my view of the game.

    Im a very pragmatic person and it reflects in the way I play league even tho some might be really surprised by my champ pool, especially my main which happens to be Riven - clearly an intuitive champion. My reasoning behind picking up this particular champ is her toolset. She gives me a lot of option what I can do in my games. She has pretty much everything u need to control ur part of the game. Wave clear, the option to play passive, options to outplay, fast rotations, taking presure without being to much at risk due to her mobility the way her mobility works. The champ just gives me the confidence that I always have the tools to make something happen and she also makes it clear that if I lose the game I probably did something wrong (if its micro or macro) - especially since I have a substantial sample size of games I hard carried 4 feeding team mates, so I know from my own experience that I can turn with her games. To bad I dont have that much time to play enough games to be somewhat flawless on her.

    I feel like I’m more analytical in game and the characters I’m drawn to match that, but chasing the feel by just playing with no learning objectives is something I need to do often. I mostly play fighting games and I tend to practice too many situations and combos before taking a new character online when in reality I just need to get my tools to system 1 and get a feel for their kit. Awesome insight

    Knowing i am definetely analytical, learning and understanding is what i enjoy most. However, i know jungle would fit that great, but i enjoy adc just so much more, so i tend to just try to outmacro and outfarm in the midgame. As a result i love sivir, having such insane waveclear makes it much faster to get the money and get moving to relevant situations, the freedom of waveclear feels so amazing, compared to playing something like ezreal where you take ages to clear a big wave.

    Hey Curtis, I think you would find it interesting studying the Enneagram. It's an amazingly nuanced tool for understanding different personality types, like one of the basic structural triads of the enneagram is the "Body/Heart/Mind centers", which reminds me of this video. Enneagram Institute is a great starting place to look. Idk if you'll see this or look into it, but I think it's something that you'd find really valuable in your work! Great video, I think it's amazing how helpful it can be to just understand your own tendencies as a player!

    I use analytics even for solo killing because it’s the concept of limit testing «I know from this and that that I can win that 1v1 » and that’s how I improve my knowledge on my champ because it’s a champ that can build almost all the items in the game so I really need that knowledge x)

  • @timandflo8
    @timandflo82 жыл бұрын

    Still working through this video, but it's interesting to me, since I'm both types of player. I analyze things to death outside of games, to the point of understanding. I don't need to look up anything or really think about anything when asked about a build question or pathing question related to my champion. I understand the champion's identity and the purpose of every item or the implications of every pathing decision, so that the answer comes intuitively. This happens in game. I basically frontload the logic of league so that during the game, it comes automatically. I can understand exactly how the enemy jungle is pathing and check his CS and do the math, etc... But during game, I only need to glance at it for a split second to build the full picture of what they're doing. I wouldn't say that I'm 50% of each. In game, I feel almost 100% intuitive, and outside of game, I'm almost 100% analytical. I could break it down during the game, but usually my focus is on other things. By having this information processed ahead of time, I can focus on the "next" thing. There's just so many variables in league, it'd be nearly impossible to think through everything in real-time. I definitely agree that intuition is ideal.

  • @coolbrotherf127
    @coolbrotherf127 Жыл бұрын

    I'm definitely on the analytical side. I main ADCs that are pretty much built to have exact trading patterns and very defined objectives in each game. Not that I can't play any melee champs, I'm ok with a few of them, but I definitely don't really have "the feel" for how to play them intuitively in very scrappy situations. The funny thing is that I'm actually pretty good at short range ADCs like Samira, Tristana, and Nilah but put me on Tryndamere or Yone and I'll feel so awkward and out of my element.

  • @Pink-zn9eb

    honestly I started playing when I got to korea a few months ago and found myself one tricking qiyana and until laning phase is over I just dont use my brain like not even when to go in or cs or ward or anything its like automatic after doing it/watching it over and over. And Id say im emotionally involved cuz when I die (especially 1v1) it literally hurts my chest but in no way I int/afk although sometimes its really hard to beat myself up over that specific death for the rest of the game but for sure I tend to tryhard even more to get back in the game while still being as aggressive as possible so you kinda find this "balance" in every matchup. Here is a personal example qiyana vs malz this matchup made me almost cry at some point bc of his ult but after a while I just knew when malz would ult and I basically use my r right before he starts ulting me so my ult cancels malz's and only lasts like a second instead of a weekend. And I basically do this multiple times a game vs a malz and without even thinking about it cuz thats the only way I dont die and feel this frustration lol anyway im not like a monkey too I still brainstorm especially in midgame where it hurts my brain to figure out the best out ops

    Hi,I want to ask you an off topic question: how do you think about scaling in league? I always thought about it as the probability of winning (of a champion) based on time passing; the longer the game goes the highest the chance of winning. Recently though I was watching lolalytics graphs and, while the statement holds for champions like kayle,corki or Sona, other champs like gp,twitch,azir,jinx and kog have their winrate decrease the longer the game goes (kinda). The latters are widely considered hyperscaling champs so what's going on? Where am I wrong? I am really interested, any replays are welcome

    in common personality models, intuition and rational thinking are not on the same scale ( one is a perception mode the other an analysis mode), so they are not mutually exclusive. I think everything that was said is very valid though but makes more sense on a thinking / feeling scale.

    Hello, Curtis, for analytical players you recommended to play "without much thinking", but isn't it basically autopiloting? And how could one play without thinking but with high intensity? If that's the case, then it's confusing what actually is high intensity. Or is it "active feeling" that makes it "intensive"? How do I know if I'm playing with high intensity or not?

    As a more of analytical player I find it easier to review my bad games on the next day (like you said in one of your bbc podcasts). It is when I can easily put aside my ego and emotions and review it from analytical point of view. The more I play the more I see that being able to commit to a long term improvement and tolerate short term losses, bad kda, bad winrate is a very hard thing to do but also is necessary. I still have my "intense experience" moments and as analytical player I tend to analize it and it is easier to do so a day after. I also over complicate things and at some moment felt overwhelmed. Like theoretically I know a lot about the game, but fail to execute most of the concepts that I know like wave management. Lie you said, once the game started I act on my reflexes which are shit because I am afraid of failing and because of it I don't usually let myself to int or do a risky play. So I stopped watching educational content (except yours :D) and focused on my first 10 minutes in a game, trying to not force things in the second part of the game and just chill for now, until I get consistent with my first half of the game. Don't know which results I get and when, but most importantly I find it a lot easier to enjoy the game and learning process this way. Another thing I noticed when tried to play top or ekko (micro oriented champs) is the shift in my approach. I naturally play more as a surfer when I play ekko or volibear (my current to go pick at top). I enjoy being able to burst down bullies I usually avoid as orianna. I naturally try to execute before thinking more on these champs and it feels fresh and adds to my league experience, puts in another perspective.

  • @dustyacer

    I'm a pretty heavy analytical player but i mainly play ekko and pantheon. Despite these two being assassin (well pantheon is technically a diver ish), i think they have relatively easy micro and lots of decision making. (I also play lots of ahri, ap kaisa ) Ekko - Lots of decision on where to place w and how to walk to get optimal usage of r. While u could consider this intuitive, i personally think its a bit of a mix skewing towards analytical. His q,e are relatively simple. Pantheon - really easy combos, decision making on how to use w/e/r.

    The first time my "champ pool" was mostly categorized into a single category. "Crossovers". Is this a problem? I enjoy playing Zoe, Ahri, Sylas, but also Leblanc, Yone, Ori, (pocket Xerath). Been playing for 10 years now and always wondering if the champ pool sucks. I think I'm an analytical player (always playing too many champs to round up the comp), and mages always come naturally, but felt like they had super low agency for years, and have now moved to these crossovers and roamers. They feel a lot more dicey, but more impactful.

    Well in Theory something like asking yourself permanently where are the Opponents?, what is their next step to win the Games/What is ours/Mine? What do i need to do in order to maximize my impact in the Game can already be very helpful. Im always saying you have to find a way which is fitting you personally and everything else doesnt matter. Also i can recommend the No Flash Challenge since it may help you against pushing the wave to far etc. Just take your usual summs, but unbind flash so you cant use it, and you will have to learn to play safer and slower if you dont have the informations you need to make a play. Hope you got some inspiration and have a good time :)

    Great video as usual Curtis, discovered your channel through a coach who ive had three sessions with. I picked up LoL again in s12 cus ”Heroes of newerth” is closing their servers. Went from bronze to gold after like 400 games with a positive winrate. Im an irelia/yone player currently gold 3. Lately im trying to learn qiyana also. Love the feeling of fast pace, momentum state. Its why i play the game. Im defenitly most confident in irelia, but she also has a high ban rate. To be realistic i dont think i can add qiyana to my roaster in ranked. Guys, would cassiopeia be a good add for irelia players - is it more analytical oriented? I wanna add something that is as fun as irelia, but more analytical. Also i might be overthinking here, but im thinking a lot about my roaster Lately. Here it is: PRIMARY: 1) Irelia 2) Yone 3) LB. SECONDARY: 1) Kindred jng 2) Ekko jng See any patterns in these picks?

    I would highly recommend something like Cassio/Orianna/Velkoz it seems hard first but it definitely can make sense for you to learn them. All of the 3 Champions you listed primary are playmaker champions whom you need to have a good intuition with (Damage Output, Mobility, Survivability, Cooldowns etc). But same counts also for Secondary i feel like. If you dont know when to dash in with Kindred/Ekko you just dead.

    I found being more intuitive more successful especially in SoloQ because I feel like even it’s the same matchup they play out very different most of the time based on champion mastery and tilt level of me and the enemy player. So why analyzing if it will play out very different. So I think that you cannot say you need 70% intuition. I think it differs by rank. Not gonna say analytical players are lost in low or average Elo or something like this but it’s less important than let’s say in challenger. Thanks for raising awareness towards this topic.

I guess it's just part of the process, but holy crap I just feel like playing Diana or something after 1 game of Cassio because I feel like my heart can't handle it anymore.

    I would think champions like Heimerdinger and Azir were more analytical, but the best players of those champs seem crazy intuitive.

    I feel watching pro games are also a good tool, but also you have to know pro league isnt the same game that most players play. so you get to see good players do actions and the caster(s) explain them to some level while being entertaining. i also never thought to call it intuitive, i mostly play off instinct and some basic info on the champ(s) im gonna go against. as a diana main in jg, i see a champ and the amount of hp they have and from those two points i know if i could kill them. from there i "try" to figure out if its a good play to nuke them or not. my goals for a match i load into is to kill them before a fight starts, and that leads me to starting the team fights more times then not. if my champ doesnt have lots of agency i dont carry games.

    I used to only play scrims and some casual competitions while in college and low-key playing with challengers in scrims was hilarious. I didn't play ranked, so they took everything I did as champ gap and eventually resorted to trying to ban out my whole champ pool, which was mildly infuriating. Higher elo players are mostly more adaptable but a lot of them have this huge ego, surrounded with a mist of pure copium.

    I am INTP-a but according to what you said in the video I feel like in League I'm in the middle 60/40 or 55/45 even tho in real life problems I'm like 90% analytical. Kinda weird, ngl. I guess despite my personality, when I am playing videogames I act different, because I am like this at most games, indeed. Edit: To be fair, even tho 7/8 tests said I'm INTP-a and 1 said I'm INTJ-a, all of them give me like 60/40 ratios more or less on each letter. Indeed, I just checked the latest one and it says 65% intuitive and 76% thinking.

    Me in silver: hmm what if I’m neither Jk, I’m definitely analytical. I actually feel pretty envious of “intuition” players because when I can’t recognize a game state, I’ll just totally int, like literally run it down from my team’s perspective. My friends are like “bro fizz had E why’d you go in” but i had never played against a fizz holding his E for that long so at some point I mentally check out and just spam all my abilities, giving him the juiciest E value of his fishy little life

    Honestly I h8 most assassins. Because they are too punished for missplays while a mage is confortable with not hitting an ability in some spots assassins aren't. For ex if I'm with a zilean mid and I use my bomb and it goes for the wave instead of enemy champ it's fine because wasn't what I wanted but it's not bad at all. But if I'm a zed and I fail w e q. I'm in a terrible spot ready to be punished af. I really h8 champs that u can't play in a way that's safe. The only assassin I like is ekko. Because he is kinda different than other assassins. He has the stun and shield which creates space in lane. He has awesome wave clear he has his ult which can save him once in a while and I feel he is more like a control mage than an assassin to be honest. But the rest of them are nonsence for me for ex I was playing swain was 2 0 and was lvl 12 vs an akali. While I was vs an akali who was lvl 10 and was 0 2. Somehow she was able to kill me with ult and there was no outplay for that or at least from my perspective. My point is assassins create unexpected plays that seem very unfair to me while in other hand they feel very useless in terms of utility /wave clear. So maybe it's cause I don't understand them but I feel they kinda destroy a lot the game. Even if ur ahead and have ok wave control they can all of a sudden kill u cause they hit a combo and u lose all ur advantage. It's like macro and intelegence doesn't matter. All it matters is click on buttons and hit unexpected combos.

    Oh god, I just realized that I'm the worst kind of player ever when it comes to this. I'm an analytical player that doesn't review the game, as reviewing is not fun, and I don't intend to play the game for a living. I'm also an intuitive player that sucks at learning from intensity, my micro is nightmare inducing to say the least, but no matter how much I beat myself for any mistake I make, I can't seem to correct it via muscle memory. I'm doomed to be bronzie.

    Honestly, reviewing like an intuitive player felt like half reviewing things out and don't really think about it. I don't know how they can get something out of this kind of review.

    the champions used in the background as an example of "type" of players are quite poor as in like half of them take both mindsets to play at a decent lvl. a kat player without a analytical skillset will go in without fail and be the first to be cc'd a lux without the intuitive skillset will miss all her qs and waste w for no reason..... even at high gold for some reason.
