That's good. I've found that honesty is the best policy. They avoided upsetting their child by telling them they could sing. But, look now. They're 100 times more upset, and they feel bewildered, and betrayed now, as well. Because surely they must realize that everyone who's always told them they could sing, has been lying to them the whole time. I want to cry. I mean it.

@melissaburton Some people are really tone deaf and think that they can sing when they can't. It's true that some were just looking for their 15 minuets of fame though, but you do realize that all the contestants for the show had to go through auditions before going in front Simon, Paula and Randy. They would only choose people that they thought would get the show ratings whether or not they could sing. I know this because I had a friend that auditioned for a really early season of the show and she said that a lot of great singers got cut before ever seeing Simon and Randy and the other contestants would boo the judges when that happened. The Tone deaf singers were only chosen because they knew it would make great T.V. content at the time.

@@Blueness1230absolutely, often people just lie to them, so that they don't hurt their feelings, or they're saying something like you've got a unique voice or a rare voice or you sound so different, if their voice sounded not only bad, but as strange as these contestants are sounding. Or they're coming up with other euphemisms. But no one outright tells them that they can't sing. But there's also friends and relatives, mostly parents, who are tone deaf themselves and actually think, their kid has some talent.

People have to remember that American Idol is a reality show and reality shows are heavily scripted. There is a panel of judges that the contestants see before they reach the main judges and the job of the first set of judges is to see who will make the show interesting and boost the ratings whether they are good singers or bad singers.

The fact that they're selective on who they allow through to actually audition in front of the judges doesn't really make the show scripted or fake since we don't even see 99% of the contestants anyways. Some of them may be acting and playing it up for the camera to get attention, but it's not like the producers have any control over that.

Or they're coming up with other euphemisms. But no one outright tells them that they can't sing. I take singing lessons since some years. And yes, what you want to hear from yourself, and what you hear in your head is awful different from what you hear when you record yourself and listen a bit critically. Singing is a really difficult thing to do.

The way that these contestants are always like “don’t worry bout it, imma make it to Hollywood, you’ll see me right up there” 😂😂
People have to remember that American Idol is a reality show and reality shows are heavily scripted.

@michaelharrington75
2 ай бұрын
I thought they had live auditions? No panel of judges before reaching the main judges. The show just picks which contestants to air on TV.
Anytime I have doubts about my own singing ability, I can always come here and remind myself there are people who are WAY, WAY worse than me! (and also completely out of touch with reality) 🤣
The thing is, some of these people probably actually have some potential especially if they end up taking voice lessons/find their specific style. But as entertaining as it is, a lot of people have come out to talk about how curated this show is especially when it comes to the audition process.
