I think sometimes it's that they have one or two people in their lives who are also tone deaf and don't know their singing is awful. Those people tell them they're good, and they cling only to the positive feedback, rejecting the negative but objectively true feedback.

My ex used to cast for these kind of shows and he said they purposely chose bad ones just for TV! And they only select a certain amount of good ones.. meaning some people were good but were turned away because they had a certain balance of good and bad for TV. And to get in front of Simon and the others it took several auditions and call backs. Which is actually pretty cruel when you think about it.. they pretty much know who will be the winner from the beginning! Because the winners are already professional singers. These shows are lies.. And they’ve wasted all these people’s time that don’t realize they don’t stand a chance. I was supposed to be on the Voice years ago and when I found out I was the only amateur, I didn’t want to do it because I’d only be getting on the show because I knew someone instead of because I worked at it. I had some experience but nothing big like that

In the 21st century, there's no excuse not to record yourself at least on your phone and work on your vocals. If they don't realize they're so bad, they deserve the notoriety.

I can't believe the full footage was hidden for so long. Simon was WAY more kind and patient than he was portrayed to be in the small mash-ups, once you see the full context.

If you notice, it was right around the time his son was born that he changed and his heart grew ten sizes. He's definitely nicer to kids and those who are at a disadvantage. He also has a business to run. I bet he used to be nice until he was walked on and his time was wasted. Now, he's been a rip the band-aid off kinda guy. There's something to be said about a person who won't waste your time. His opinion is highly valued and that should say enough. Some will never take no for an answer.

The 2nd one, blonde girl, really wasn’t that bad. It’s the way she portrayed herself as a diva before she sang and then her lack of being abled to take criticism after the fact. The judge panel knows from the get-go what kind of attitude they are searching for and because she was combative and unwilling to lower her own opinion of herself, it was easy to reject her in totality.

For some reason people have this notion if they are self taught it's better, but self taught people don't have key skills, and it's short sighted to say you love music but refuse to do everything possible to become the best you can be. Me too! I was 13 and spending the summer with my aunt. It was like a party. We found out you could call up to 7 times on the land line to vote for your favorite. We'd run around the trailer court to borrow our neighbors' phones to vote for our favorites. We loved Nikki McKibbon!

When you list out the fact that the combined net worth of Randy, Paula, and Simon is over $400m, makes these uninformed (and resistant) contestants’ responses even funnier. American idol is akin to a job interview, hence it becomes even funnier that contestant spew their mouths off with absolutely no knowledge of what they are saying. Randy, Paula, and Simon are nothing short of captains of their industry, which adds another layer of juxtaposition in which we can lol even more loudly 😂

@@coryr7183 these are also edited. the reactions they're cutting back to might not be the ones the judges were doing in real time. and we're listening to their mics, which they can turn the volume up on. the laughter could be quieter in the actual room. and on top of all that i'm sure they're coached to keep going and do not stop until they tell you to stop, no matter what reaction they're getting.

You know, I wish people would be honest with their family members and tell them the truth before they get on national TV and embarrass themselves.

@@ingridbrandt7710 For some. Not all. I’ve been a vocal coach and sound engineer for a while bud. I know what you are saying though. Some try but there seems to be little hope. I’ve worked with some that learn when they practice intervals for a year or two and they learn over time.

The big question is which one? The Star Spangled Banner has to be one of the hardest pieces to do. I don’t know whether to admire or ask WTF were you thinking for trying it in an audition. It was written by Francis Scott Key, not Francis ‘Off’ Key.
