Correction: Title to the right of "Turntable" should read "Water Tower Base," not "Alpine Tunnel Station"

Wonderful video and drone work, and your notations, bring this abandoned narrow gauge line...almost back to life.

Glad you enjoyed it. I like adding the notations. For many years before I had ever visited the area I couldn't make sense of what I was looking at when I saw photos of the area so my hope is that these will help others who haven't been to the tunnel area be able to get a sense of the route of the railroad and its facilities at the pass.

I was saying to myself, wouldn't it be great if someone could use a drone to cover by sides of the Alpine Tunnel...amazingly I got my wish. This was incredible footage and showing how the tunnel went through to the East Portal was truly great to visualize. The only thing that could top this would be if someone took the time with this kind of skill to actually use a drone to follow the entire route the narrow gage railroad traveled. Thank you David Moore for an awesome job. another great look into history.

Great job! This along with Google Earth really puts it all in perspective, one has to marvel at the amount of exploring and climbing it took to nail the final routes...

Totally agree. Can you imagine walking over these mountains by foot or horse trying to figure out how to traverse these mountains? Those were hardy folks!

I had a goal of making the trek to East Portal, then climbing up to Alpine Pass to see it all. With my knees and age, it's not going to happen. Your video helps me be there in spirit. Thank you.

My friend and I climbed over the mountain from the West Portal to the East fifty years ago. You could get into the tunnel at both portals back then. It was a daunting hike.

@@markthomas6436 I neglected to mention that we had to climb back to the West Portal and my Volkswagen. I hiked the grade alone to the East Portal from Hancock a few years later. The portal was decaying and I didn't try to crawl into the small opening. I met a guy with a pickup truck on the way back to Hancock. The weather was changing to become one of those sudden Colorado cloudbursts. He gave me a ride back. He was a lifesaver. My friend and I also hiked to the Phantom Ranch at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. We slept there overnight and hiked out the next day. That hike was brutal. I'm in my 80th year and can barely walk a couple hundred yards/meters. Time has a way of tilting the playing field in its favor. It also does it quicker than you think possible. But I still have memories your videos resurrect. Keep up your good work reminding me that I once was young, and daring.

The line was abandoned 100 years ago. What do you think happens w o maintenance in an harsh mountain climate?

Any idea when this footage is from? During March of 2019 there was a very large avalanche on the north side of Mt Poor(east portal side), sliding over the old grade, to the bottom of the basin, and back up the other side. It ended up knocking down many trees uphill on the north side of Tunnel Gulch. A feature you would have been able to see from this footage. Guessing its from a few years back? Very cool to see it all from the air! Thanks for including all the arrows and tags of everything. I especially enjoy how you match up the old photos in your videos, overlaying on each other and over new footage.

Thanks a lot. I'm glad you enjoyed it. It is from 2018 so it is before the slide you mentioned. Do you know of any online photos of this slide and it's results?

Very well done. Just a minor correction, what you labeled as Alpine Station is actually the location of the water tank built after the engine house burned.

You are totally right. It was one of those blunders I caught after the fact. I had copied and pasted the title and forgot to change it. I mentioned the error in the description. One of these days I'll redo it and repost.
