One of my two favorite ski areas in Colorado, Monarch and Wolf Creek. Both with lots of natural snow - the only kind to ski on.

Monarch is where I learned to ski in the mid 1980's. Such a spectacular mountain. I haven't been back in 30 years. Next year I'm going to make it a point to get back out there.

I lived and skied in Vail for 20 years, Snowmass for 6 years. I was in the ski industry for 17 of those. Great skiing - but I'm glad I left! I've been in Paonia since 2002 and don't ski much now. When I do - it is Monarch! I go for three or four days, bring my own food, and stay in Maysville. Affordable with a short drive to the area. I DO NOT go there Friday through Sunday - too busy with kids all over the place.

Monarch is my favorite in Colorado. Love Loveland too. I've skied a dozen Colorado resorts, living in Golden, Fairplay and the Roaring Fork Valley. The big resorts have something to offer, sure, but the mid-sized resorts are best. A-Basin and Eldora are close and fun for metro Denver too... and no I-70 rolling parking lot for Eldora either. Eldora is better when the wind scours higher mountains, or weather making I-70 so very sloooooow. Monarch doesn't have a long time on bad mountain roads either, but Monarch Pass can be a scary road in heavy snow with all the semi-truck traffic on a two lane road. But the lifts spin at Monarch when it's snowy and windy! Lots of trees for protection. Long May You Run.

I lived in Eldora and skied at Lake Eldora for two years. That was the windiest place I'd ever been in my life. One night the wind meter at the top - topped out at over 150 MPH.

@@rahkinrah1963 I lived in Boulder and used to love the 30 min trip up to Eldora. The Chanuk winds got us in Boulder. It would cap the chimney off and all the smoke would come out in the house so we had to pour water on the fire and open the windows. We learned to watch the weather after that. I water skied Lake Vallecito one June. When I jumped in the water I couldn't exhale, only inhale but by the time I skied around the lake for a while and fell back into the water, the water felt warm. Growing up we used to ski Purgatory. It was a mom & pop place.

Before you came here, people were self-sustaining individuals. They were rugged and free. Our grandparents and great-great grandparents came here in wagons. They worked, which kept them WARM and FED! The only security they had was what they could create. What did you do for these "helpless" homeless parasites? The cops are LAW Enforcement, not the dept of public welfare. Another California helpless busybody who wants to run everyone's life. That's why we despise Californians. Mind your own business, take care of yourself and quit telling everyone else what to do. These people aren't homeless, it's how they have chosen to live. There are plenty of jobs out there if someone wants to work.
