The people who generally made the most money in these gold rushes were the outfitters who sold supplies. Great video, I have to visit it.

I have also been there three times, first time in 1974.some relatives had a 100 year lease on a cabin right on a stream just above st elmo.last time I was there, the cabin was gone.one of my trips to colorado,I was in the big Thompson canyon the day it flooded and 147 lost their lives.only lived because there were no vacancies,so we drove on- the flood happened that night.

Great video. I have visited St Elmo many times since the late 1960s having grown-up in the area and doing lots of 4-wheeling, hunting, hiking, climbing, and fishing. Just an awesome place to explore. The Alpine Tunnel was open at both ends in those days, but eventually landslides closed off the entrances. Still a beautiful area to visit as I still return to the area often. Learning some things, I did not know about its history which was fun to hear about. Thanks for posting this.

How about cripple Creek colorado. Isn't that a ghost town tourist trap still.
