However, I don't mean to sound like an ass, but why did your gf choose this song when it's obviously about a failed relationship, and not suicide? Just a weird choice for me. Anyways, I've had a few friends that died young, and I drew portraits for their families, since art is the thing I'm good at.

This song was popular when my dad died in 2003. I was holding his hand when he died and then I'd hear it on the radio....and while I know it's about a different type of relationship, but it's so haunting and beautiful and about loss and it reminded me of my dad then . Hearing it today for the first time in years has made me cry again. I miss you dad.

Trivia Fact: This version of the song she hates because it was recorded in 30 minutes at her dad's work studio and was supposed to only be a demo. Her label refused to let her re record a "better" version like she wanted to and shoved it on the album. She later recorded it the way she wanted it to sound for her remake album.

You have a lot of potential great content to watch! This song is almost 20 years old now and came out when I was in my early 20's. It's a song that defiantly hits harder today. Back then, to me it was just a great song by an awesome singer, now it's a powerful emotional song. I can now relate to the lyrics, but not just towards a specific loss or relationship with someone, but towards my memories, my moments, and my mind. The older we get, the more the memories hurt, not just the sad and/or bad ones, like losing a loved ones, as I have lost both my parents over the last twelve years, but the good ones also, like having a wonderful childhood, first getting marriage, your children's births and them being young, these memories of life, moments of time, will never be as great as it once was, as certain moments that will never be experienced again like they were when we lived them. My memories, both happy and sad, are slowly killing me as I can't let go and depend on them so much.

Monkey Brown You’re right, and in fact, My Immortal isn’t even her song, it was written by Ben Moody, and Amy herself is not a huge fan of it. She disliked it so much for a while that she would even leave it out of concert setlists around 2006-2007... she eventually embraced it again in 2011 only because fan demand was so massive, and finally in 2017 (for Synthesis) she created a new version that’s more orchestral and she’s more satisfied with that one.

This song was about that blonde guy in the band leaving the band. (Don't remember his name) They were very close. I read it in an interview Amy Lee did with kerrang magazine about 12 years ago.

matthew argent Right??? Man, that version of The End of the Dream is absolutely gorgeous, sends chills through my whole body. 😍 Unfortunately Synthesis was released on the same day as a certain album called Reputation by this one chick Taylor Swift, so poor beautiful Synthesis hardly got noticed.

If you want to listen to something a little heavier by Evanescence, try Sweet Sacrifice (one of my favourites), or Lithium.

Listen to their song Missing. I first heard it after a terrible breakup so its powerful for me for that reason still years later, but holy mother of God is it a gut-wrenchingly emotional song.

Every Evanescence song can be interpreted differently, mostly My Immortal' is seen as a song about a relationship gone wrong, however to me, this song came out around the time that I lost my first son. So to me, the lyrics represents that loss. Almost 20 years later it's still as painful as day 1

Sophia the Phoenix Lucky! They came to my hometown a couple of times but I never got a chance to see them. I was in college at the time, and did not have much in the way of disposable income. I don't have much regrets, but missing them is a regret.

Everytime i hear this song it reminds me of christmas morning when i was 7 or 8. It was maybe 7am the sun was just coming out. My mom had these nice red blinds and it filled the living room with a red tint and I had opened up all my presents and her and I sat there playing with the toys I got and she was happy, I was happy, everything was ok, everything was going to be ok and now almost 20 years later, she passed away in 2018 from cancer and now I'm just all alone in a state I never even thought about moving to with only her ashes and my cat. Makes me cry almost everytime I listen to this song. A sad song came on tbe other day while i was at work and it instantly brought me back to her hospital bed and how she couldnt talk or eat, smile. After 4 weeks with nothing getting better it was only myself there so I had to make the decision on pulling the IV out of her and just letting her go. I didnt want to but after 4 weeks, she was so skinny and I knew she couldnt last any much longer. Even after the first 2 weeks I brought so many ideas to the dr at the hospital, of ways to give her nutrients but they werent able to fine any more good veins to do so without taking out her IV and going through that vein so she layed there, as lifeless as she could, until the last night. I was at work(she would always say if she dies and I stayed eith her and I lost my job, I would be in a worse place than just losing her and she always told me to go to work), after driving 1.30hr 1 way, before and after work everyday since she was in a different city at the time, and it was her bf and he said it doesnt look good that I needed to get tbere. Once i did, he left and 2 hours later at 2.41am I watched her take her last breathe and she was gone. Ever since then been super depressed and sleep at least 16 hrs on my off days from work for the most part. But this song always brings be back to that christmas morning when i was younger, if i was a painter i would paint that room out right now and hang it about her ashes
