No. Don’t give misinformation. Priscilla and Al haven’t known each other for too long. She was like that already. By reading side stories, you can tell she genuinely has a powerful ability that allows her to do a variety of things. Priscilla made the people in her territory have bountiful harvests by using her ability, which resulted in them loving her despite her personality. She can tell what path to take to get somewhere is the most optimal, and once used her ability to accurately describe what snow is in detail (despite never seeing it).

While Al seems better its not entirely Al:is active so he has so do it willingly meeting certain requirements. He chooses the checkpoints . Has limited area. No significant mental damage? Can help others by choice. 50/50 is he remembers. Subaru:is passive so 24/7 Autosaves at times when Subaru manages to survive an ordeal or causes great change,and only cares if Subaru survived no one else. Always remebers for better or worse. Returns to a set point always in the same location until new checkpoint is achived. So in short Subaru has a better respawn with more drawbacks but Al is conditional but more convient.

I'm speculating here but what if hypothetically Al does have the Authority of Pride. Satella gave Subaru RBD (we think) and its weird that Als power and RBD would be so closely related. What if the Authority of Envy allows the user to copy other authorities but only imperfectly? Could Subaru possessing the Authority of Envy be why he's able to collect the other Authorities but they seem so much weaker when he uses them compared to the archbishops? Its just an idea. Yeah i know it might be because Subaru is a sage candidate i just thought it was an interesting idea

I mean, satella seems to have “Unseen hands”, not only that but it seems that she shares authorities just like in gluttony case, so i don’t think it is unlikely that she used her envy witch factor to give subaru a “mimic” of pride authority (if you consider Als power as an authority). Well to be honest, from Pracillas's perspective, Return by death is a silly thing considering she's never seen Al dead as this version of the world only knows him alive. The same goes for Subaru. The world that exists with them doesn't know of a world without him.

So, Al can use save states while Subaru has to replay the entire level again

It would be really weird to see Subaru fight Al with them both using there abilities to reset to know what the other is planing

Al's respawn works on a limited area and seems to have different nature. It's more like he predicts future, than really returns by death, or creates limited space with different flow of time, where he can die as much as he wants and outside world wouldn't even notice that. While for Subaru there's still a possibility that his death just switching timelines for him. Or rewinds the state of the world completely. Which makes Al more powerful at the moment of fight, but adds more space for strategies and planning on Subaru's position. It's more like "Al can beat the shit out of Subaru, but next time Subaru would know the exact time and place and will borrow powerful opponent for Al"

If I understood correctly. Subaru's RBD is always active. So he dies and returns to the prior "save point." Al's has to have him set UP a point. The question is how exactly it works. If it means he has to forcefully set up a zone EACH time in Prep or he returns to a previous point. If thats the case. He dies before he sets up his new point means perma-death then Subaru's RBD is far superior.

It would be cool if Al and Subaru could talk about there power...if they can

Does anyone else think his subjagator ability seems similar to how Pandora was able to negate her death? Maybe he has the Pride factor which is a weaker version of Pandora's Vainglory factor? Maybe Pandora doesn't have the same "gamble" as Al and she always ends up in the subjagator role? Maybe she was able to teleport Regulus in the same way Al negated Priscilla's death?

The requirement system that lets al reset is similar to Subaru’s. Subaru’s requirement is that he has to die to reset. Al’s might be he needs to save someone.

False The authority can trigger without needing to save someone Al tried to convince priscilla that she should not go to vollachia, which resulted in him dying thousand of times. In another ss al tried to kill a illusion of "satella" but failed after a million times. Theres also the fact that leip stopped killing al in one loop yet kept looping until he was insane maybe due to al killing him The trigger is probably death from either the victim or/and subjugator

Well here is also something though to think about We don't know exactly how long Al has been in this world compared to Subaru, right? For all we know if he verbally talked with Satella and told her, "hey I know I'm gonna die if this keeps up, can you reset for me?" She might actually comply considering she gave him that ability so that he wouldn't. That and it's also possible that he could, with enough time, maybe find other ways to set up checkpoints as well. Cause again we don't know how/why Satella marks certain checkpoints. Either she is capable of seeing into the future on some level or she just takes a gamble and sees this situation as "safe" and marks it for him. Spoilers Below

Stella rewinds time to a point where Subaru isnt in imediate danger dying via choices and once he clears the Obstacle of dying she rewinds to the next Safe Point regard!ESS of anyone else but Subaru's safety(thus the Rem incident)

Imagine Itachi (from Naruto) using Tsukuyomi on Al while not knowing that Al has his "Subjugator mode" on. Al just need to wait for Itachi to lose his mind for using Tsukuyomi too many times. Break his territory while not remembering of getting affected by Tsukuyomi.

Either Itachi remembers the loops or Al does. If Al members them then since its looped Itachi's eyes would be fixed each time and be able to Tsukuyomi forever. If Itachi remembers he would never use Tsukuyomi that meant times. Plus, Itachi's eyes would still be fixed.

I was gonna say, if Subaru has the WOE authority, or at least Satella is "sharing" it with him, then what would make Al's power? Even with the similarities in powers, I find it hard to believe that Al's power is Satella's doing, considering she is trying to help Subaru because she loves him, she would not be giving it to anyone else, let alone be giving a more powerful version to someone else. And its too powerful to be anything other than related to an authority, and as far as we know the only witch more cracked than Satella would be Pandora. So I think this could have some truth to it.

It could be why he knows of Satella somehow, and it also makes sense to some of the allusions/references in stories featuring him, like: Pride from "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies", as well as "The Day I Gave up on Being a Following Star" when star based names are also given to Sin Archbishops. Thoughts?

I think Al's ability is manual, which would explain why he doesn't suffer any mental damage In arc 5 he states something along the lines of "The extent of my ability is turning a fatal injury into a serious injury" He never really dies, just rewinds when he suffers a fatal blow, if say, it takes only a thought to activate Never *really* experiencing death would save him from a bit of suffering, or, it could be that he simply doesn't value his life at all and is already broken, like Subaru in the greed if (except, he doesn't have a witch whispering into his ears)

In the Sloth IF, the only other Oni shown with the ability is a woman force-fed something by Capella who could not do it naturally before. As for Rem having the ability, it most likely has something to do with the suspicious circumstances surrounding her. I personally think Pandora might have been messing with her existence, but ultimately that's only speculation as of right now.

He did say if the capital collapsed during his fight with Capella It would be his entire territory and he would die. Not sure if the building was just so big that it took up all his territory or not.

It seems like he should know the size of location first. It's something that he comments at "Pride, Prejudice and Zombies" . This sidestory was translated recently and posted at witch cult translations site (translated by someone called Neg I believe?). So you can check it if you want. Really great story.

So let me see if I've got this. Al can choose to activate his ability while he's still alive, unlike how Subaru needs Satella to activate RBD for him whenever he dies? Does this mean that if Al doesn't consciously activate his ability before dying then it's all over for him? Like if he gets sniped in the head and dies instantly? That would be a good explanation for why he only wears a helment if anything less than an instant kill would allow him the opportunity to activate his power before dying. Also, if I'm getting this right then Al's "territory" is simply the area of effect of his power, limited in range and with some other qualifying conditions due to his own limited power supply. In this case Satella's "territory", the area of effect of the RbD that she gives Subaru, is large enough to encompass their entire planet since she's got so much more power at her disposal? Al's territory reminds me of an instant dungeon in an RPG game but with a time dilation/reversing component. If something happens Al can choose to create a territory, equivalent to an instant dungeon, spanning an area up to possibly the size of a city (maybe?), within which is contained him and whoever else he wishes (among those people within the range of his power when he activated it), and within this territory/instant dungeon/bubble of space he has the same RbD time reset ability that Subaru does but there's a 50/50 chance of either him or the other person/people trapped in there with him being the one(s) to either forget or remember the resets experienced within? So from Al's perspective he either activates his ability and spends potentially thousands of cycles of dying and resetting (years of this from his perspective) until he defeats his opponent/succeeds in his goal and deactivates his power, or he activates his ability and immediately sees his opponent surrender/have a mental breakdown (because his opponent has spent thousands of cycles/years being forced to fight and kill Al over and over again nonstop and they remember it all)?

If we combine both Victim and Subjugator the result will be Pandora's immortality.

In regards to Subaru I believe Satella controls the checkpoints. In the case of al he can save/load on his own.

I think Al's power works by regretting and then un-doing a specific decision. I think Al chooses the amount of time based on when he made the choice that put him on that path, but he also risks undoing things when he goes back. imagine playing a game and you are going to save but forgot to pick up that super strong item. do you go back for it or...? at least thats how I see it from the parts i've seen on al. I think he's a NG+ type subaru

dude something crazy came to mind like i thought Subaru had a past in the world he is y'know, then died reincarnated in japan then came back when Satella found him (i think she did) however if Al has return by death wouldn't this mean that he could have been with Satella and she was mistakenly taken by him with Subaru considering his helmet? but if its actually a blessing what makes him return by death in a way then that "kinda" make sense unless he made some contract with Satella in the past, and his are place thingy he mentioned which if its broken he dies... could also mean that "he doesn't posses the same ability as him" in Subaru cased he doesn't need some aoe place to return by death. rather he can die any time or be killed and just return back without any conditions they could be similar in some ways but different, like perhaps the fact Al did form some contract with Satella but in Subaru case its entirely different

I watched the anime, then began to read arc 5, how does Subaru know Al was summoned from Japan? All the websites i find just state hes from Japan but i cant figure out how Subaru is aware of it, is there a side story that took place between arc 4 and 5 where subaru learns it?

we can argue that subaru's rbd > al's "rbd" as it can still be broken, it has conditions, it is a territory, rather than with subaru's auto save, so if he were forced in a situation where the conditions for the territory was not met, or it got destoryed, he can die, while with subaru as far as we know, as long as he wants to continue, he will continue. Really though only downside with subaru's rbd is that it can destroy his mind, if he did not have his insane mental fortitude he would have already lost his mind, while al is seemingly unaffected by the deaths he's going through as the "victim"

How is Subaru's stronger? He can't choose when the checkpoints are set.

@@karhammer Because he doesn't need any requirements except his death and he can restart the whole world (if not the whole universe). Also maybe it's just that Satella doesn't want Subaru to place his own checkpoints so that's why he can't save.

Subaru wins his ability is not fixiated to a specific teritory and can respawn before the battle plus he may remember Al's loops if they fight

Um, Stella uses Shadow magic to rewind time when Subaru dies,it isnt "Subaru's abiliy" Al uses Shadow Magic if I remember the spells he cast vs Capella correctly......He may just know the same Time and Space warping spells as Stella (and Beatrice)

Return by death is referred to as an authority by echidna. It is not shadow magic, furthermore al has earth magic, not shadow magic.

I read arc 5 and dont remember Al using his authority against capella in the basement.

Nope, Al ability is limited, and has some sort of conditions to work while Subaru's ability is unlimited, Subaru just would need to know how to cancel Al ability or prevent the conditions

We'd see a chess fight if subaru and al fight

Do we have any other examples of Al using the subjugated aspect of his ability besides the fight with Priscilla’s dad? If not, I don’t think the “subjugator” is one of his abilities. What I understood when reading that fight was that it was so traumatic that it drove Priscilla’s dad insane and gave Al amnesia. I’m not entirely sure though, it’s just a theory.

He was her husband, not dad And the fight does literally show Al getting burnt to death over and over with no memory of it, while Liep remembers it all, including loops where Liep himself dies. Al also mentions something along the lines of, "It looks like I'm the attacker this time," which means he's aware that one of his potential roles is that of the subjugator.

Hmm I don't know if you should call it return by death because it's not confirmed yet that death is the only way to trigger this ability. From what I read in that jombie sidestory Al has a pretty good command on his authority and that's why I doubt if death is the only possible way to activate his authority...
