My Theory on the matter What if Subaru knows Flugel in Japan by a different name, after all Subaru did say he had many friends back in middle school and maybe instead of one of them leaving Subaru, he got isekai into the world and told someone about him like his apprentice and dress her up like Subaru or maybe all the Isekai character know each other in japan and for some reason take turns getting Isekai so when Flugel returned it was Subaru's turn to enter the world as only one Isekai character can enter the world at a time and Flugel prepared everything for Subaru to do in this world or save it as he had faith in his friend.

Maybe the real Flugel was the Friends We made along the way

I agree with this. I think they're copies of each other but grew up differently and had their own identity. I also believe this happened with Emilia and Satella. They were at one point the same person but now they're two separate people. I think the whole amnesia Subaru thing was to prepare us for this philosophy. Remember Louise wanted Subarus witch factor so she tmgave him Amnesia and tried to make him become someone so different he couldn't be identified as the old Subaru so her Gluttony authority would be able to consume him a 2nd time. This proves it's possible with different memories and experiences to become a completely different person. This would explain Emilia/Satella looking identical but Tappei stating they are 2 "different" people.

I think at the very least flugel knew that Subaru would come to the re zero world and set up a bunch of shit for him. I mean they always be saying that the sage was all knowing so going by that logic he knew that subaru would come and so he laid out things to guide him. Like the tree and the name of the tower among other things that make us believe that Subaru and Flugel are connected.

Also one pretty wierd thing is that flugel tried to erase his existence and pass on his achievements to shaula so why did he not make the tree shaula 's tree he has even carved "flugel was here" on it that's strange and how could have he planted on the exact spot the whale will appear in the next 400 years for subaru its almost like he was following a gospel

Plot twist:-Batman is flugel

My current working theory is that all the isekaiers are versions of Subaru that were summoned at different times. So, the Subaru outside the convenience store would always be the one isekaied, just to different times and places, which causes him to become different people; Flugel and Hoshin are both Subarus summoned 400 years ago, Al is a Subaru summoned ~20 years ago, etc. Additional theory: The reason Subaru is being summoned so many times is because Satella wants him to accomplish a specific goal, namely killing her, but each version fails, and gives into a different sin. Hoshin, for instance, gave into Sloth, choosing to use his otherworldly knowledge to live an easy life, and Al gave into Wrath, his emotions preventing him from killing Satella, as is implied in the future lines. I don't know enough about Flugel to say for sure, but if I had to guess, I'd say he gave into Pride somehow. Not only is Pride considered the original sin from which all the others originated, but there's also the IF stories parallel. Flugel has some connection to the Witch's Cult and Petelgeuse, just like Pridebaru, and those parallels also continue to the other isekaiers; Slothbaru runs away to Kararagi, specifically Banan, and Hoshin was the founder of Kararagi, with a particular connection to Banan, and while the parallels between Wrathbaru and Al are less obvious, they do both have an antagonistic relation to Ram.

Then the witch of lust mixed the evil dragons blood with Subaru's body(Reason: Because it fun)... So with the blood of the dragon(evil) his leg went to its place ... He says reincarnation is not a thing because of the QnA but it is a thing. When someone dies, their souls goes to the Od of the world to be cleansed. Thier memories are stored in the book of the dead and the soul gets reused, thus reincarnation.

But what would he even return by death into? RBD isn't physical time travel, it's informational. It's his mind/soul that is sent back to his past self, separated from his body. If there's no Subaru to receive that information, which there wouldn't be 400 years ago, it shouldn't be possible for him to RBD to there. Yes I know this is 2 years old

I mean it’s pretty obvious it’s for the same reason, they ARE copies of those people. With Echidna’s not so subtle explaining of that whole process, the possible “loss” of parts during the transfer, and the myriad bits of foreshadowing in the novels that Subaru has a strange kinship with all artificially created life forms, it’s likely that one of three outcomes is true. Od Laguna made a copy of its savior since he worked out so well the first time, A Witch or Himself used a factor to recreate Echidna’s process in preparation for current events, or Pandora resurrected her father in preparation for freeing her mother upon creating a perfect vessel.

The autor said that he wanted to make a history about a man who saves a silver haired woman, and he said that this is that history, thats a good point to think about that emilia is the same person as satella, and about flugel, i rlly think that flugel is a more experience subaru(i can not explain why), with a master plan to do something that the subaru that we know is necesary, I believe that flugel(subaru) was so cornered that he had to become what he hated for a greater good.

Unlike what I suspect of Emilia, who was a failed vessel for Satella, I believe that the Subaru we know is a successful example, with only some of his memories being lost in the transfer. Namely, he still seems to subconsciously remember things like his love for Satella, the name of his Ground Dragon, and that Echidna was someone he wasn't afraid of, but consciously forgot most everything else after his arrival in his new world, with only one of his Witch Factors remaining intact. That being Envy, which manifests as the Authority [Return By Death] in his case, the one he shares with Satella. In fact you might even say he needed to "Start all over from zero in this new world".

I agree with pretty much everything you're saving. However for me, I gave up on any solution other than time travel when Volcanica knew Pastrache by name. I just can't figure out any other way to allow for this other than Subaru heading back in time. The alternative requires that Pastrache is much much older than we think AND that she was given the same Japanese anime name by Flugel. I just don't buy it. That said, I don't know that Subaru is Flugel but I absolutely expect him to go back in time, possibly with Emilia/Satella. I will say, it would be an interesting twist if Subaru did turn out to be Flugel explicitly BECAUSE Subaru hates what Flugel did so much. It would be a brand new kind of pain for Subaru to be placed in the past and simply have no better ideas than what Flugel did. He'd be knowingly inflict horrible situations on Shaula and others because it is sadly the best solution available. So far Subaru has managed to carry everyone forward with him using RBD, but his luck might yet run out and he could be forced to make serious sacrifices in terms of how many people he can save. Would he trade his other friends to save Emilia? That might be a powerful character growth moment for Subaru.

there is actually is some explanation and that’s because volcanica is connected to every ground dragon since he created them. re zero has a lot that are “linked” to some degree. ram and rem, subaru and beatrice. it wouldn’t be weird if volcanica was the same. it could be he specifically is linked to patrasche because he needed to keep an eye on subaru during this time. or that patrasche was created for this era to achieve a specific goal or even just help subaru if we go with the theory that flugel isnt subaru and just set things up for him, that means he had some way to see into the future. so it wouldn’t be that weird if volcanica was involved too. the only issue is that reid wasnt… but due to his personality thats probably a given. echidna, another character from that time, is also interested in subaru. satella is too.

What if time travel only consisted of going back to a certain state of time with your memories, much like how RBD works. Could it be that Flugel time traveled and lost his memory because it he went to far, and then started off the series back in Episode 1? Then again, that doesn't quite make sense once I think about it some more, but the idea that Subaru just sort of materialized in the middle of a crowd in broad daylight is also kinda fucky wucky.

But isekaiers dont need to came from same Japan they can came from different dimensions like in Shield Hero and Flugel can another Subaru's parallel identity even maybe all isekaiers is Subaru but from different dimensions if all of them is from the same dimension then there can be rummors about Al Flugel or Hoshin but maybe they came to isekai in same time nevermind

for the section on reincarnation, i feel the need to point out that Tappei is a huge troll when it comes to answering questions like this. as an example if we try to find out whether RBD rewinds time or sends Subaru to a parallel universe before he dies Echidna is honest in saying she doesn't know. and if we try to find out what is implied through Tappei's writing it still goes either way depending on which death you look at. so i am sceptical about the QA you mentioned. next theme. so arc IV is mostly Subaru learning about the power of promise's oaths and contracts. and how strictly it binds the people here. Flugel being a Isekai'd character would have also been unfamiliar with the importance people put on promise's and may have been unaware of the damage caused by asking Shaula to promise to stay at the watchtower. remember kids to check whether a contract has term limits.

This might be unrelated but u know what is sketchy to me the fact that Subaru got summoned into rezero like that, he appeared there out of the blue and no one noticed or reacted to it, what if Subaru was already there but the "current" Subaru got summoned mentally in that body, what if Subaru has been summoned over and over there to solve his problems but has failed and flugel was the one who started everything... Im fully prepared for them to announce subaru is a reincarnation. After what happened in the shippuden war arc in terms of reincarnation ret-cons and behind the scenes villans

perhaps it is a double isekai. It's just that 400 years earlier version is the second leap, not the first. So it is not time travel for Subaru he is just got pulled in at two different times, second one being earlier in the world, and is sort of pulling a bill and ted and setting up all the stuff needed to full fill some goal.

If he was sent back a day in his original world where time flows differently, he could theoretically time travel 400 years in the past very simply

I know right and that's not even considering that flugel was actively trying to hide information about him All the depictions on the coins are idealised versions of the heroes so I think that flugel either probably changed his appearance with magic / some authority? Or he could have wore something similar to the hoods emilia wears to disguise herself and the coin makers just put some generic handsome dude on the coins

Aside from second hand info from videos like this, I'm essentially an anime only. Whether or not Subaru is literally Flugel or not is one thing. On a narrative meta level, Subaru and Emilia seem to be hard compared to Flugel and Satella. The real question for me is this. What is the narrative and theme reason for this to be? What can the Emilia:Satella dichotomy tell us about the Subaru:Flugel dichotomy?

Is that the Steins;Gate theme tune in the background, That is a sick time travel reference

My theory is this and Subaru does not have to necessarily be Flugel to be true: Satella just like Subaru has return by death. Remember how Emilia got freaked out on Subaru saying she saved him because she doesnt remember anything because it was in an erased loop? Well it is possible Subaru doesnt remember doing all the things Satella says he did for her because it was in an erased Satella loop. Satella wants Subaru to kill her so she can Return by Death to 400 years ago. Then once she returns she will summon Subaru to the past, like she summoned Subaru to the present, this is how Subaru will travel to 400 years in the past. No time travel needed, Subaru just kills Satella, Satella Returns by Death to a checkpoint in her past and summons Subaru from there.

The simple answer to this mystery is that history repeats its self. Just watch the Simpson's.

If something similiar to cryo sleep and erasing ones memories is a thing in Re:Zero, then you wouldn't need time travel.

I think I figured it out. I don't have the facts but I think I know what's gonna happen. Emilia is to Satella what Subaru is to Flugel. They're trying to revive? Satella by using Emilia as a vessel right? What if Satella is trying to lead Subaru through a specific path where he ends up being used as a vessel for Flugel. That could explain why his check points get updated after certain events that he does not get to choose. Also Anytime Satella says I love you, she could actually looking at Flugel in Subaru.

Nah i don't think this theory makes sense because if Flugel was really Subaru or is trying to see Subaru in Flugel then Satella would have let Flugel kill her 400 years back itself. But you see its quite weird? Satella insists to be killed only by Subaru

What if the real Subaru is still on earth, and when he was summoned it was actually a perfect copy of himself. Making it possible for him to be summoned multiple times. So the first time he did a great job and eventually died in that alternative world. And because of how good he did he was summoned again.

Plot twist: Flugel loved Satella but got stuck in the friend zone and created an elaborate plan to save Satella at the same time that he takes revenge on Subaru for stealing his girl.

i have a theory that would make it so subaru could possibly still be flugel the reason that his bone were left behind is because he died and after using return by death he then was sent back to earth continuing the cycle but if this was true then subaru really does leave people behind after he dies each time

How would Flugel be Pandora when the box is Flugel's bones? I mean, you were probably messing around at the end there. Also, Pandora can't be Flugel because we all know Pandora is Otto.

I think that have to many things that would need to be waaaay out of the style of re:zero for Subaru to be Flugel...

So I haven't finished the whole video, but I wanted to through in an interesting theory I saw, and a few interesting points I like. If Subaru is flugel. Cool. If not. Cool. I don't mind either way what happens with that plot line. But keeping in line with that theory that they are somehow the same person. One, was the Subaru was summoned earlier, 400 years earlier, and pandora uses her authority to change when Subaru arrives to when we see the start of the story. That seems unlikely based on a lot of information we've learned. The other one I like but also has holes, is that Subaru lost his memories before. We saw in arc 6 that Subaru basically reverted back to day 1 when his memories were eaten. So it's not impossible to think that originally hed been flugel and he been doing prep work or something and lost his memories again. But again, it's really floppy. So whatever tappei does I'll be happy with. I just thought it was neat.

Maybe Flugal didn’t have a way to help shaula and satella and people he loved at the time so he found a way to go to earth and go into the future at the expense of his memories and instructed satella to guid him and made a gamble so he could save everyone At least that’s what I think…

with all the different information given on both videos there is more ground to cover that Subaru is Flugel rather than he isnt, think of it like this, time manipulation does exist but for echidna who isnt affected by such does not understand that concept but for the material world it is a form of time manipulation, that could be a way of echidna knowing all forms of magic but the power to manipulate time was taken from Satella and a future subaru who has taken all 7 witch factors will be able to go back in time and fulfill all of the facts shown on both video but named as Flugel, with the incentive and will from killing the 7 witch candidates Subaru could have done everything 400yrs ago to align with the facts stated, there is little known fact if subaru will survive or if he will go back to his world, but it could also be that he frees satella, gain her authority to "manipulate time" as done by "return by death" which has a varying checkpoint unknown yet on how it triggers, go back to 400yrs in the past, uses the witch of envy's authority and removes his identity while also giving it all to satella who could have also been emilia who subaru brought back with him 400yrs ago

Judging by how the author has been writing the story in such a unpredictable way, i think flugel is prob subaru. Maybe he is a random ancestor of subaru who was born a really long time ago and just like subaru he was isekaid.

@@lisgen2920 Hmm, I guess that proves he was from the modern age but it doesn’t mean Flugel is Subaru. Especially since Tappei doesn’t believe in reincarnation. He also wouldn’t do some dumb time travel shit (RBD is different, I meant TRUE time travel). Also not saying you believed this, just think the Flugel = Subaru theory is wrong Theres also the possibility is it was just a stupid joke. This is unlikely since no other character has done something like this, and Tappei is a great writer and wouldn’t do that. Still, because he’s a great writer, he wouldn’t fuck up his great story with some dumb time travel shenanigans.

One thing I think this video should take into consideration..... If you watch the Netflix show "Dark", then you know you either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain. XD

At the moment you mentioned that Flugel has 'Sloth' witch factor, it suddenly give me a flashback about the 'Sloth if' Subaru, by that as it was mentioned that Flugel has long hair.....so do the Sloth Subaru. (Maybe my memory isn't right though, as I have a memory span of a future candidate of Dementia patient prez. So I doubt it quite a lot) Maybe it's just a coincidence, I might be wrong though

Remember Sirius that recongnized Betelgueuse thanks to Subaru's witch factor ( in the arc 5 )? If the box was made of sage's Bones ( Flugel's Bones ) contained the witch factor of sloth and then after some time was passed to Betelgueuse and then to Subaru it can be logical due to some scent of Flugel's bones left in the box , it fused with the Witch factor, then maybe that's why Shaula recognized her Master : Flugel, because of the scent of the Witch factor that Subaru Holds in Him. Something is really Interesting in the fact that some characters from Re zero can smell something from subaru, i think that witch Factors and their scent play a Big Role In Re Zero.

I’m going to say everyone keeps missing the base idea you could be fu And then get sent back to earth and the resummoned minutes afterwards 400 years later is a option because we don’t know yet how the summoning from another world is actually happening 1) We don’t know how the summoning works, Can he be sent back to earth with no memories and then be resummoned 400 years in the future from the point of re zeros world, But you’re missing one major point, Subaru could be something like it is at a point in the future he returns to earth and then summer and 400 years in the past 2) The problem with his smell is that it’s a smell of a witch it’s not a smell of the witch 3) Doesn’t mean that it’s not possible that he Leaves her for 400 years he may not have the option of helping her out I do think until I see it Flügel and the sword master is trapped with Sotelo

I don't know what they all lead to but I'm gonna put it in anyway. *(SPOILERS ALERT)* We don't know much about Flugel and his appearance, except that he is on a Lugunican coin and noted that he looks like *Juulius.* Remember on Arc 4 when the story on how the Sanctuary barrier came to be? *Hector* was pursuing Echidna which led to her adding the barrier. Hector surprisingly looks like Subaru but gloomier (he does represent melancholy) and *his hairstyle looks like Juulius??* I saw a theory that Hector may be Flugel (little about Hector is known as well but he and Pandora may be a big factor to the story considering they are witch/warlocks) but please consider these facts. If you are going to say that changes to the past erase present or future timelines, then Subaru's memories would get erased as well, but they don't. Furthermore, Subaru's Od gains experience through each loop he goes through, including damage to his gate and affinity to Witch Factors. This implies that each loop Subaru experiences is "real", at least metaphysically. If Subaru acquires a Witch Factor and then RBDs to a point before he got it, he would still have it. There would then be two copies of the same Witch Factor in his current timeline.

idk, I feel like Subaru must have either reincarnated or done something in the past, otherwise the whole 'I love you' thing from Satella makes literally no sense. Then there's also Shaula, and her orange/ black clothing pattern, combined with all of the the other references and hints, I feel like it's impossible for Flugel to at least not be related to him somehow.

This is what I believe. Subaru and Flugel are the same original person(Subaru). They're copies of each other but grew up differently and had their own identity. I also believe this happened with Emilia and Satella. They were at one point the same person but now they're two separate people. I think the whole amnesia Subaru thing was to prepare us for this philosophy. Remember Louise wanted Subarus witch factor so she gave him amnesia and tried to make him become someone so different he couldn't be identified as the old Subaru so her Gluttony authority would be able to consume him a 2nd time. This proves it's possible with different memories and experiences to become a completely different person. This would explain Emilia/Satella looking identical but Tappei stating they are 2 "different" people.

What if Flugel is Subaru from a What IF story, after he somehow went back to his world? I mean, we had Pride If where he lost his Return by Death in the end. Also, who knows what will Satella do once he "saves" her, so it could even envy IF's Subaru which Satella sent him back. To get even trippier, Future Subaru acts as Flügel to lay the ground for the Present Subaru and it completes an Itachi's Izanami-like time loop, and he chooses to go back to original world solely for that reason.BTW, the first Flügel was from a What If to break the paradox. Also, what If time travel isn't magic but an authority, possibly Satella's? RBD could possibly be a Time Travel to another parallel universe, like Stein's Gate's time lines, and Subaru actually have a Reading Steiner-ish ability to return only his soul back, and that's why every experience of the previous universe is more like a dream for him.

Suburu named Patrache. How does Volcanica know her name? With the dragon is suffering from Dragon-Allzheimer’s, it’s amazing he remembered her name (considering she’s only had that name for a couple years if I am understanding the timeline right). If Volcanica was like “Christine! What are you doing here?!” Then NOT Fruggal theory would make a lot more sense. Not saying one theory is right and one is wrong. Just saying that big dragon is buddies with ol’ Patrache and apparently knew her name hundreds of years before she had one. I’m sure all be revealed within the next 10 years or so. I have a theory called Fluclight theory Where Flugel is actually Subaru but unlike time, He was summoned 400 years ago and use a alias Flugel. He sealed Satela and did some things he hated so he decided to delete his memory as Flugel so he can become like his former self and so he give up all his witch factor to witches of sin and slowly started loosing his memory. He only kept Return by Death so that he won't become like Flugel ever. His phone always have low charge but it stills work. It could explain why LN 1st chapter and Episode 1 is called End of the beginning as if his Beginning life(Flugel life) came to end. And how he saw half elf girl dying before he got summoned as if his memory deletion is completing

Probably a stretch, but what if Subaru's dad was Flugel. That's why Flugel and Subaru have similar scents, maybe setalla pulled Subaru because he looks like a younger version of his dad and she mixed them up, and his dad named Subaru after the Pleiades tower

about the time travel argument and RBD, hasn't it been shown that people with authorities don't have the same strength as the original witch of that authority? So what if it isn't Subaru's RBD authority sending him back but Satella/The Witch herself?

But what if Subaru/Flugel was given the same goal of acquiring all witch factors? Also, Satella gave Subaru R.B.D right? So what if previously 400 years ago Flugel/Subaru had been given "variations" of the witch factor abilities. But this time instead, Flugel was given the ability to rewind time and other abilities to seal Satella permanently for some mysterious reason Edit: Another theory as to why Satella had killed off the other witches may presumably be because she wanted Subaru/Flugel to be the person to seal herself willingly

Imho, Subaru was first sent to this world 400 years ago, met Satella and the others and eventually had to help seal her away at the cost of his own life. However, since Satella could never allow this, she transported his Mind only forward in time, without his memories, that's when Subaru woke up when he did and met Emilia. That would also explain how Satella could give him RBD to begin with and why he is engulfed in such a strong Miasma.

And this is were it gets confusing. I´m not sure on the topic of reincarnation when it comes to Od Laguna, but it proves the existence of souls. I, for my part, am pretty sure, that Satella knows exactly "who" Subaru is and is not confusing him for a parallel world him or another person. So some form of "time travel" has to exist if you cut out reincarnation. There´s also to much contradiciton for the double isekai, at least with what we know so far. Now what do you think of Subarus authority? I for my part take it as Subarus mind being send back in time, as parallel universes doesn´t make much sense to me. Maybe it´s just an experience/dream of the future and when he survives it becomes reality (a little bit like Pandora who can change reality).. But if it´s the first, the Authority of Envy allows time travel.. maybe time travel of the soul? I also wonder.. if Subaru has the envy witch factor, what about Satella? How does the "Witch of Envy" still exist/keep her powers when she has non of the witch factors? Or is Subarus a copy? my theory is that theres something special about isekai’d peoples souls that makes them necessary for some further goal. due to some words said by al, it seems he also had the goal of killing satella, just like subaru. if thats the case, flugel was also brought here for a similar purpose. the one thing i can confusing tho? flugel spent time with satella before she went evil. they were said to all travel together. why did that happen if satella brought people over to kill her? it seems to me that someone else is bringing people from japan.

First of all, I don't really agree with the second part. Like, have you looked at pride if and wrath if? Subaru is man who can be easily swayed and corrupted. HE THE WAS LITERAL DEFINITION OF EVIL IN THE TWO ABOVEMENTIONED IF's. So I don't find it hard to believe that if something somewhere went wrong, he would abandon Shaula. Plus I would go as far as to say that it is comparably kinder to what he has done in Wrath if and Pride if. Besides that, pretty good and fun theory. 8/10 enjoyed it nonetheless.

i feel like time travel in re:zero is something that both roswall and echidna could have known but couldnt use maybe due to it maybe being super complex or just something that wouldnt be able to be preformed unless you have a long time to prepare, look at roswall making it snow using the giant crystal in sanctuary, he had to fight for some time while the spell was happening for something like that so for something like time travel it could be insanely more complex and time consuming

I think Flugel is Subaru’s actual real life dad, possibly both his parents were isekaied into the past of this world, AND gave birth to Fortuna and her brother (hence the mean eyes coming from Mama Natsuki) or at least their isekai descendants did, and then when they were sent back or got back somehow to our world they knew their future child would have to go in their place one day to sort shit out. Idk, it’s not solid but that would explain why Subaru had the same scent but doesn’t LOOK like Flugel (he takes more after his mom)

Depends on your interpretation of the time travel. If we're talking about the law of conservation of history, where any 'changes' would have to be already self consistent, which means that any future events which could change the past via travel already happened... but then we get back to the 'how do you time travel?' question, and why subaru in the first place. The other posibility is the 'alternate reality' kind of time travel, which would make it harder to explain any past changes in the current timeline. Hell, Flugel could be an alternate subaru which would be just confusing. Subaru is obviously AL, lol.

Could it be that Subaru got summoned, went through the current story, gets sent back to earth, then got summoned in the past? He would then die in the past, explaining the bones. Maybe he did that to create a different outcome in whatever happens in the story.

If time travel magic exists then it's probably only usable by Od Laguna itself so I think Od Laguna remembering it's savior transported Subaru back in time.
