The split is the process he takes to "bring back [Natsuki Subaru]". In Gluttony IF he kills his friends, reads their books of the dead and obtains their memories so he can become [Natsuki Subaru]. However in the main route he decides against this - instead trying to save his friends regardless, in the process he stumbles upon the reason why he loses his memories and reobtains them.

In the right Route, Subaru decided ro face the challenge to recover the "Natsuki Subaru" instead of the idea of killing his friends to red their books (murder becomes a habit). IF route aplit at decisions that fkced sh1t up alot, so its a pivotal ppint

The worst part about the outcome, he ends up as a schizophrenic who chose to instead live inside the nostalgia of the past, killing everyone in the present but living with them in happiness, inside his own head.

It’s actually terrifying how close the main story came to going down this route.

@@notori-di5et Yeah Subaru should have realistically snapped mentally in the sage tower and it makes 100% sense. Unlike the other IF routes, gluttony if totally fits in with Subarus "heroism" he's doing all of this in a vain attempt to save everyone. If he only knew how return by death worked or found his book. Maybe he'll get lucky and satella won't update his check point.

@@Steyr32 I think the idea behind the IF stories is that his checkpoints don't get updated if he isn't actively pushing forwards with his goal of saving Emilia. Since Gluttony ends with Subaru killing everyone he's ever loved, his checkpoint would probably still be back before he wandered off.

Literally the one of the if routes with good endings is the one with rem or the deleted one where re zero gets hentai plot

The real tragedy begins when he finally realizes that he was "the same Subaru" from the start and that he destroyed what Subaru wanted to protect from the start and can't fix it. And tragedy reaches its climax when his dream of collecting all the pieces and returning the original Subaru comes true, only to discover that the person he had imagined as a hero was no different from him from the start, he was not a hero in the first place, he couldn't save anyone, he couldn't save the knights from the white whale or the Beetlejuice, He couldn't save Rem... he couldn't be a hero

I can't imagine how people unironically call Petelgeuse as Beetle Juice.

When I first read this I felt so empty and depressed. Subaru goes on a journey to find himself but we all know he will never achieve that, he believes that he and ‘Natsuki Subaru’ are completely different people even though they are the same. He kills everyone to find himself so he can help them, he is under the impression that ‘Natsuki Subaru’ can make it all better even though the save point most likely has already updated making his actions irreversible. Gluttony If is definitely the most depressing If story

@@lazerbeamkt9646 I’ve heard the opposite RBD seems to care about Subaru and Emilia Or at least Subaru and some goal related to Emilia, possibly making her the Ruler In the Sloth IF where everyone except Subaru and Rem die Tappei said even after decades the save point never updated from the arc 3 appa stand, and in Pride IF Subaru had a permadeath after getting Emilia to become the ruler Meaning there’s a reason Subaru was brought to this world and his save points won’t allow him to permanently stray from it It definitely seems to be linked from Emilia and Subaru (likely due to a link between Satella, the summoner and Emilia- possibly just them being the same person) as remember in arc 3 when Subaru forced himself to say he can return by death to Emilia and she died instead of him, Tappei stated that effect only occurs with Emilia anyone else and Subaru would die

Even Echidna wasn't able to "sense" Otto or whatever she does to know almost everything. That is why he isn't in the Book of Wisdom. Otto is the final villain lol.

This was the only if story I read thus far and I feel it's very and good. Its also aligned with Subaru character perfectly. So his hair change due to beako past( some things never changes).

Haha yea I misspoke, what I actually meant was that she didn’t have a goal or anything, she was a blank slate except for having information regarding the watchtower. normally spirits tend to have a goal or purpose (puck protecting Emilia, Beatrice with the library), but echidna had nothing.

Here she doesnt do that because after subaru used rbd a bit of times in order to kill all of his friends in the right order she was traumatized. However her being inside him as a witch gene corrupted his personality just by existing. And we have the disturbed subaur personality of the glottony if

I love how all of the If stories really explore the idea of what happens if a person falls into each sin. Suberu was never satiated and needed to know who he was, which lead him to killing everyone, but if he was contempt with at least still being alive he could’ve saved himself. I think it shows you can never have everything, so trying to ends in corruption.

In the world of Re:Zero, does anyone ever question why Subaru is able to remember people who everyone else completely forgets? Us fans are aware that it is probably because of Return By Death, but does anyone in the world of Re:Zero question that?

mhm I feel like a good point to mention for this Subaru is that he actually believed after he patched together and completed 'Natsuki Subaru' he could just use RBD and start over again and now the complete hero Subaru will save everyone.. in a way this kinda at least made him have some logic to why he kills people and doesn't care, its because he Knows complete Subaru will save them after he successfully patches complete Subaru

I think the first trial is an issue _even if_ you're from Earth. I doubt the average person is a constellation nut like Subaru, so his convenient choice of hobby really helps here. Am I wrong? Let me know if people in your country can identify stars on sight like Subaru. All I know is that Sirius is hot (the star, not the character) and that the North Star points north.

@@TheJoethud22 I know Big Dipper, but the trial was about Orion. Even when it comes to the Big Dipper, I only know the name and vaguely recognise ''connect the dots'' shape. I don't recall the backstory or meaning behind the Big Dipper, nor do I remember any of the names of its individual star dots. If you suddenly locked me in a tower without warning, threatened to kill me if I attempted escaping, pop-quizzed me with some riddle with the answer being one of Big Dipper's stars then yeah, I'm confident I would fail that test.

I've only heard/seen bits and pieces of Re:Zero, but the IF stories have been something that really intrigued me. With my limited understanding, I think I might see a parallel between the Gluttony IF and the Pride IF story: both are essentially "missing" when Subaru calls for help from the guards at the very beginning. In the Pride IF, Subaru is too stubborn to call for help and struggles to beat the thugs on his own, and this completely alters his path. In the Gluttony IF, he did call for help, but Subaru's method of "becoming complete" after losing his memory goes astray because the _only_ major character who could have had a memory of this moment in their "book of the dead" was (to my limited knowledge) _Reinhard,_ someone Subaru is unable to kill. Subaru can do as many loops to get as many books of the dead he wants, but without Reinhard's book, he will never regain the memory of the _very first important decision he made_ that went missing from his memory, and without that memory, he will never truly understand the "Subaru" that he is trying to emulate, because this very first action had consequences that reverberated through his entire journey (as seen in the Pride IF). Now, I could be completely wrong because I know so little about the series, but maybe you'll find it interesting?

Let me just tell you bro, no, that is not the reason, it's more of the people that he will kill only saw the Subaru that saves them at the right time, this anomaly. This amnesiac Subaru won't remember the times where he did die and looped back in time, it's where the original Subaru grew the most, the so called "loops" but no one know that except the original "Natsuki Subaru" So this amnesiac Subaru will NEVER complete himself, NEVER. If you have read the original timeline, you will know why ( related to the sin archbishop of gluttony and that no one knows and has knowledge of what the loops are and how Subaru reacted to each of the 23 loops) but I must say, a very great parallel indeed. As an avid fan of the series, I highly approve of it's thought-provokeness. Nonetheless, I do confirm it to be false, the facts are at the top

10/10 IF story easily my favourite out all of them, love the themes, Subaru's character, the tragic acts, everything.. tho I would've like more Character dialogue from other character that's important to subaru like wilhelm

This one is my favorite for sure.

This IF route is imo the most messed up one. He didnt understand the potential of his power. And because of that simple thing it went a completely different route. Im glad Subaru's personality in the main story is different from the IF's Subaru personality

I'm more concerned on how he's alive without beako absorbing his excess mana. Maybe shaula can do it? Tappei never explained it.

Tho even if he kills everyone that knows him he still cant get memories that he experienced alone.. His view of point.. So he'll never recover all of his memories

To this day I still wonder If Reinhard can't get past Sands Time even with his 80 percent Yin Magic Resistance, then wouldn't that mean that Flugel can win against Reinhard by default via placing Reinhard under a spell on the same level as Sands Time like a Tsukuyomi or something

Yes, except that magic doesn't 'activate' in Reinhardt's presence. Check out his abilities, but basically as he's loved by the spirits, all the mana required goes to him. Dude's a walking magic EMP.

It’s interesting how every arc has had an IF route (minus arc 5, but that arc doesn’t have any real points of divergence for Subaru). Will we be getting one for arc 7 in the future? I haven’t caught up to the most recent chapters, but has anyone seen any potential IF route divergence points?

Gladiator island if he had survived Todd attack and didn't rbs to solve everything that probably the divergence. He probably just end up like todd since he was comparing himself with him and he will be terrified of dying plus he will lose all his memories beako will probably die same with Emilia since ceci did not save her

This is a great if, but there is something I don't get. Why could Subaru leave the Pleiades Watchtower? I thought he couldn't until he finished the trials. My guess is he did finish the trials somehow and therefore screwed himself because that might have updated his checkpoint depending on what the condition for his checkpoints truly is.

People are pointing out how his method of revival won’t work as he’s destroying all he valued to regain his values Another flaw is that no matter what he would never be complete, he’ll never be able to gain the critical loops in his character that failed Die to this he’ll only ever see Subaru’s success never the failings that forged them
