Nemesis calling Oni cute is the most surprisingly endearing thing I wasn't expecting today.

As an MK fan I absolutely hate this - This is like the 5th time a mortal kombat character wins and doesn't get a proper fatality or even the FINISH HIM line - They used the "flawless victory" line despite Kahn having a taken a massive amount of damage - Shao Kahn didn't even say "YOU SUCK!" At least the xray was a nice touch

@@thunderknight0095 He was so out of character in this whole fight, he's a schemer and cheater at his core. Nothing in MK, even the Midway era, shows me he could tank f**king Akuma, let alone Oni, and body him this way. It just isn't right, and fans of both franchises should know this.

Don’t worry, the time and budget are being saved for the last two MEGA episodes of the season which I have extreme expectations for.

As much as that fight would be cool, the team itself isn't good with purely hand to hand fights. Even with geese's more range based moveset, I doubt it would work either way

Just realised that kahn would basically die a few minutes after this fight, remember how in MK9 he was on the brink of death and needed shang tsung to heal him? now he's in the middle of bumblefuck nowhere with a hole in his chest and without a heart, so basically they're BOTH dead.

I'm conflicted on how much I liked this Death Battle. The animation itself felt lackluster but the choragraphy was actually pretty good.

My only problem with Kahn vs Akuma was, if you gonna mention Kahns non-canon feats-give my man Akuma some love! For crying out loud, he fought Galactus, Asura and was even an acolyte of Apocalypse! I just wished both sides got their nods. Either way, it was a fun fight.

@@kaigraham6733, no no they said they didn't scale Akuma to Asura, so while yes, it was the moon, unfortunately that feat was not scaled and they instead used Akuma's meteor shattering attacks in the comics I really did wish they used the Asura's Wrath feat though, would've been awesome to see that.

After seeing the near masterpiece that was Dio vs Alucard, this was a serious letdown. But it had some good points, but not enough to ignore the bad points.

think they got some of the analysis wrong; I mean using Cetrion's lazer beam fatality as a feat isn't canon because fatalities are just game mechanics. I also think Shao Kahn surviving the punch in his chest is unlikely because Liu Kang did the same and he wasn't just able to walk it off he needed other people's help to recover it. Also MK scaling is inconsistent, there's plot armor where a character who isn't universal beats someone who is, example being Katana vs Shao Kahn. The inconsistency goes as far as Liu Kang beating Shao Kahn, Shao Kahn beating Raiden so he has to reset the timeline, and Raiden beating Liu Kang in both timelines. It isn't really a rock paper scissors scenario to me. Also next death battle is such a stomp that they don't see, it reminds me of Twilight Sparkle vs Raven, even though both had hax it was so clear who would win.

And not just the fact that Fatalities are gameplay mechanics. But also the fact that Shao Kahn DOES. NOT. SURVIVE. ANY. OF. THEM. (Including the Cetrion laser beam) Heck. Even Kano can kill Shao Kahn with a beer bottle if we consider the Fatalities in power scaling. That means a normal human hitting Shao Kahn with a beer bottle is enough to kill Shao Kahn. Let that sink in.

@@sharzinlalebazri5673 yea but I think that's where we kinda have to separate game mechanics from feats to a degree, both are fighting game characters meaning the weakest characters in their respective games could beat them, and if we are takingnthe bar that low I would say any character from MK beats Dan, who can beat Akuma in gameplay. I think it's best if we leave negative scaling out of it, at least when it comes to gameplay elements

Good video, I was pretty disappointed by this fight and couldn't quite figure out exactly why until you put it into words. Best part of Akuma vs Shao Kahn for me is when Shao Kahn randomly taunts Boomstick mid-analysis, as it's the only moment that I found memorable and the only joke that made me snicker

I liked the ideas that went into Akuma vs Shao Kahn, but the execution just faceplanted. Some things were really cool ideas •Shao Kahn reversing Akuma’s attack, putting said Akuma in a torture rack back breaker before transitioning to the MK9 X-Ray •Shao Kahn trying to rip Akuma’s soul out, only to trigger Oni •Oni referencing the MK9 Donuting of Shao Kahn •Oni attempting the Raging Demon, only for Kahn to turn the tables. Things that should’ve been done •The fight should’ve been in Kahn’s arena •Kahn should be distracted more when taunting •Some of the shots lack impact •The music track is just kinda boring. I get what they were going for, but it seems kinda weak •The Death was just rough. I like the idea. Have Kahn tear off Oni’s arm after stopping the Raging Demon, then throwing him in the way of his hammer before caving his skull in. But it just looked bad! Also, Kahn should be yelling out “FATALITY!” The final blow felt too quick & rushed just to get the fight over with. All that said, the fight seems like it needed some more time in the oven. I don’t hate the episode, but it had some missed potential. Definitely among the lower ones in season 8 for sure

At this point, the budget is just crying for help. Edit: Also, you said “Shao” instead of Shang at 2:02.

Feel like I'm the only one who would place this in their top 5 this season, but hey, good stuff as usual nemesis:)

I wish Death Battle would use the fact that Akuma in game is a glass canon archetype. He has very low health and stun meaning if he gets hit once or twice, he can lose. I think it would have been interesting to see Akuma have to fight effectively but safely against Shao Kahn since Shao is this massive brute. And if Akuma did get hit, he would really sell it. But if Akuma gets a hit in, he basically rules the fight for awhile similar to how he works in the actual games. (Also, have they done the whole "xray bit" in every mortal kombat battle pass season 2?)

@@edogodave9386 You know that he is using an item called Portal Orbs/Spheres to do merge realms? You can see 2 of them in Deadly Alliance and in Deception there is a side quest to find one. So basicly they gave him the feat that he did not even do, merging was done by portal orbs and not his own power.

God this was disappointing. The analysis was good. I actually really liked both of them, they were solid and funny with a few moments where I actually laughed. But then the fight came and I have issues. The environment is barren and boring, it's implied there is a tournament going on but we see no other evidence of this, Shao Kahns voice actor does not fit him whatsoever with the Akuma voice actor being meh, the hand to hand looks jank as hell, The entire sequence with Kahn catching the go-haduken to him getting wacked with the hammer is slow, the death is beneath me line is AWFULLY delivered. That uppercut when Akuma powers up makes no fucking sense and looks bad. Oni's glowing eyes look awful and so do the effect clouds that show up, they look like they were added in at post production at times. After Kahn gets a whole punched through his chect everything goes uber jank for a good bit. Akuma seemed to be bodied throughout the entire fight, which I guess makes sense because he lost even at his most powerful his attacks are just taken way too easily. The music was way too quite. Akumas head being crushed not only looked bad but the squish sound effect was timed wrong, it sounded like his head was still being squished while Kahns hammer was being pulled away. Positives? As soon as Akuma powers up it gets better (barring the uppercut) I like the quick back and forth with Akuma kicking Kahn who grabs Akumas leg and throws him into the backbreak into an Xray in one of the few times I can fully see the person on the receiving end just walking it off. The raging demon scene was actually pretty good! Good lighting, but even THEN it's ruined by odd sound design. It's rare when I say an episode is carried by it's analysis. I'm all for the fight, I'm not a serious vs debater. But the fight here was awful. 3/10 Fun analysis bogged down by a fight so poor even the greatest praises I can give it are either decent or bogged down by an immediate fuckup.

Great job on getting hired on to voice Shao Kahn, did a great job 👍 (It'll be funny if you voice him in how it should've been and he sounds exactly the same)

Shoa Kahn vs Akuma was so boring to me I felt almost nothing, especially after the great Goku Black vs Reverse Flash and Dio vs Alucard

Really should have more action considering the opponents.

Reason oni looks weird is because they used the Tekken 7 model of akuma and the shin akuma recolour but then jumped back to the original street fighter 4 oni model which came out back when the artstyle was more cartoonish. Also the whole shao kahn voice issue sounds like whatever the VA was recording on removed all bass from his voice when he spoke so it feels diluted. IMO ....yeah i agree, felt like a mighty racoon fight. i don't know many SFM Hand to hand fights that dont look janky, their strong points are effects and ranged magic fights.

That last thing you said has me dying 💀 🤣

Yeah that’s what I was saying, the animation and choices when it comes to movement is just… weird, like the storyboard of this is so strange, or at least the layout, cause I don’t know what the storyboard looks like, maybe it was better. It’s honestly crazy how much stuff about the fight you said is exactly what I said. Only a few things different, like I personally like Shao Kahn’s design in MK11 FOR THE MOST PART, a few issues is that I do miss the skull in the middle from the other games, the also how the colors are a bit too meshed together, I feel like some complimentary colors would easily help break the muddled look, and the leather on his back could have significantly been reduced. I was a bit more critical in some areas though, I too am an animator, storyboarder, and concept artist so I’m a bit nitpicky. Like in my opinion the Raging Demon looks off, because the first couple of hits are too slow, and it doesn’t exactly lead into the punching frenzy as smoothly, and I mentioned how the transition from the hammer coming down to Akumas arm being ripped off, it was shot and timed in a way where it made me think the hammer cut his arm off, and I was like “what the fuck?!” It took me a while to get that Shao Kahn just ripped it off with his own arms. And the shot of him throwing Akumas arm away is super weird, his torso is so still while his arm moves so fast, same when he slams the hammer but you already talked about that. Now it seems the problem this whole thing seems to struggle with is ease in, ease out, and anticipation motion. Overall yeah I agree, this does seem rather rushed and I mean no personal offense to the Death Battle SFM/Blender team, it’s just man, after the other animations we got it’s a huge let down. I did have issues with those animations too but they weren’t enough to take my enjoyment out of it. Edit: oh wait you did mention how the hammer looks like it cut his arm in half, never mind.

In my opinion I like the first 2 episodes a lot since season 1 charm for Akuma vs Shang, and M. Bison analysis is really memorable for me as well as the fight, but I really dislike the newest episode. Death is rather weak, the raging demon looks awful and static. I really wanted a more fluid fight from a character like Akuma. Martial art really ain't their thing lately

It is unfortunate, because I saw there were a lot of good things that could've come out of the episode. But I do agree that this should've had more time in the oven, because it really came out as....not so great. It feels wrong to me to say that this is my least favorite episode, but I'm starting to see how I just felt underwhelmed. Blake VS Mikasa had its VERY present rendering problem, but there were some things I really liked. Shadow VS Ryuko is more of a personal gripe, but again the fight was good for what it was worth. This episode was running....but really tripped over something on the way. Also the next episode is such a joke of a stomp, I don't even know who thought of it. For me I'd give Akuma VS Shao Kahn a 5/10, I can't really consider it bad, just really meh. If people enjoyed the episode, that's completely fine and respectable.

When this season is over could you do a ranking or Season 8 shots

I was so hyped for this battle. The switcheroo at the end pissed me off. Watching this video though, there was an overwhelming lack of polish.

Looking forward to next week's stomp.. seriously who in their right mind puts an Omega Mutant against anyone who isn't Close to a planet buster?!

I really wanted khan to use a M bison move to finish akuma, just as neat easter egg to his last battle especially the ending of that one epsiode where khan testing out his new power and Boomstick was all like "that can't be good"

Honestly I kinda wish it was a sprite fight but similar to the Ryu vs Liu Kang DBX it starts in the Mortal Kombat 1-3 style with Akuma using his Street Fighter: the Movie video game sprites or even semi-live action to create new original sprites before transitioning into the Street Fighter style in a very natural way, like perhaps Akuma does what he did in Asura's Wrath to Ryu with his Demon Armageddon and kicks Kahn to another dimension before following him through the wormhole he created before fading to black and the music fades out for a moment. As it fades back in from a First Person perspective of Shao looking around confused before getting up (now using MUGEN sprites) before comedically getting the back of his head smashed in by Akuma using a Tatsumaki (even including an X-Ray) for the first hit as the fight picks back up with Akuma turning into Shin Akuma and then Oni.

Been waiting for Nemesis to tear into this one.

Oni's face when Kahn reflects his attack back at him is funny to me. He's just like: "Oh... I should have thought this through."

The Oni punching thing looks like he is giving Shao a massage XD

i can agree with you to some extent, your opinion is very respected and noted cause yea the fight was a little bit janky at times and Akuma's model change was really shit, but i do quite love shao kahn's MK11 model as it makes him look more like a Shokan rather than just a giant humanoid being. the Analysis was pretty good i did like Akuma's a bit more than Shao kahn's cause i know most of what Shao kahn can do/already did so it was a pretty decent refresher. the death should have been Shao kahn using one of his Fatalities from either 9 or 11 to make it feel more impactful and to show just how well a 3D FATALITY can be when not in the MK games. if it was a sprite fight where it can have all the dynamic moveset that both characters can use to their fullest then it could have been one of season 8's best but yea sadly it does get dragged a lot by some pretty janky and weird looking moments that wasn't very good to look at, at all.

To be fair, Shao Kahn always does this. He taunts at his opponents while looking directly at them (and yes I acknowledge the taunt when he laughs looking up) and does nothing when they close in on him

I truly believe this fight could go either way!

How are they gonna go from potentially one of the greatest Death Battles of all time to this?

Stuff like that makes me wonder what the crunch was...

This is Ridiculous. If Shao Kahn could overpower Akuma at such a high level of Strength and Abilities, then there is no way that Liu Kang would be able to defeat Shao Kahn. It's just doesn't make any sense at all.

Ngl, I don't think the reasoning behind Shao Kahn's victory made that much sense. I could be wrong on this but things they outline as 'feats' felt kind've bizarre, like him surviving Liu Kang's chest punch even though he took ages to recover or withstanding an unknown percentage of Elder Gods power even though he still loses. Then they bring in a non-cannon fatality and try to interpret realm merging and...yeeeeaaaah. Maybe I'm wrong, I'm sure that there are some applicable reasons for Shao Kahn's victory but the ones presented weren't all that convincing. It came off to me like they were continuing the trend of MK characters beating ST characters

Yeah, this is the one episode that i ind questionable this season. Like the character with actual on screen feats losing to a character who’s power is being mostly based on assumptions and weird questionable scaling.

I think the "flawless victory" part was a reference to the movies where they always get it wrong.... At least I hope so 😂

i get the feeling that the "flawless victory" line is a MK movie reference. even though that was shang tsung's line...

Personally i found the fight to be a step down from the last fight animated by this team. It's ironic cause one of the major gripes i have with most Death Battle episodes is the research but for me the research felt pretty spot on mostly. So it's kinda a first for me where the animation is the major flaw in the episode and not the analysis itself. If i had to give it a ranking i would go for a 5.5/10. It's an an overall average episode for me and to be fair I've seen worse.

I thought it was really weird how they brought up a feat from one of the Capcom vs SNK games as if they were completely canon to the Street Fighter timeline, but then didn't bring up anything else from those games like Shin Akuma's soul overtaking Omega Rugal

Yeah, we only have left Korra vs Storm, Madara vs Aizen, and one final mysterious episode.

2 years late but what ever, they calculated Shao Khan merging realms as his own feat while in DA and Deception it was reveleaded that he merged realms by using an item called Portal Orbs/Spheres. We can see 2 in DA and find one in Deception side quest.

3 days late but even if he is using portal spheres, the spheres were only used to close the realms while Shao himself moves the planet. And besides the portal he used for Earth is revealed to be his own anyway.

My only issue with the death battle was that they used non-canon ladder endings for Shao Kahn, but none for Akuma, skewing it towards Shao.

I don't remember any of Khan's endings being used. And Blaze's is actually a legit gauge of power, considering that's actually what would have happened if Blaze had won Granted I could have missed something, I was somewhat busy when watching the video.

They used canon feats for Shao Kahn, and they were just for view, plus explain when and were Akuma busted a meteorite and leaped into heaven, if I remember that was from a non-canon ending from a crossover game which main games do not count

I was always under the impression that khan's magic was under certain limitations and rules- like the mortal combat ritual was needed to facilitate the invasion of other realms rather than just some big dimensional schlorp. Besides that's not exactly a feat you can take to a battle if you can still get a hole in your chest from a relatively normal dude.

I'm just glad they didn't use crossover fights for either characters as an outlier for their scaling.

@@ripzmad9846 or injustice Scorpion and Trigon for Shao Kahn. Either way, crossovers have waay too much nerfing and wanking to compensate for power creep.

I kind of agree with a lot of what you said, although I personally liked the shot for the kill they used. It made you feel like *you* were being killed by Kahn, which adds to his sense of villainousness. Which was admittedly lacking in this episode otherwise. 3/10 is a bit harsh I feel. I'd give it a 5 myself, but then again I'm not a fan of either franchise, so maybe I'd've disliked it more if I were! 😄

I was faked out by the raging demon scene only because I thought nobody could counter in middle of akuma doing the move

I get serious Saitama vs Kenshiro vibes from 13:56-14:18.

Like, the fight isn't great, but I did kind of find it neat how the first 2/3rds of the fight were from the side, like MK or Street Fighter. Should've only really been that way at the beginning and not more than half the battle but eh. Just finding something to find good

This an episode I respect tons more than I like. I don’t like it but I can see what they were trying to do and the episode clearly had ambition. For example, I kinda like the idea of the Death. The pov style with Akuma getting absolutely squashed off screen could be cool if it was given more weight and emphasis. If the models were better and they had a good setting, the fight instantly becomes better. This episode really just needed more recourses and time. A lot went wrong with this episode and none of it was because of laziness or lack of skill. It’s sad more than anything to me really

i have a problem with how Khan was still able to fight after getting a hole punched in him last time that happened he needed quan chi to heal him

I think I am a bit more forgiving of shao khan vs akuma as I work with 3d game models to create fanart and trust me mortal kombat and Espically street fighter models are a pain the arse to deal with, so man weird bones and jank you can tell they aren't made for anything but 2d fighting and the bare minimum talking, so I do sympathize with the animators on this one, also mk getting another win is just a plus for me

When I see the hole Akuma punched into Shao Kahn, I am reminded of that joke from Kung Pow. That's like his stomach plug on the ground back there, sheesh you don't see that every day.

...can ANYTHING get the use of "Flawless Victory" right? None of the movies did, neither did this.

That ending felt so strange when I was watching it. Especially Shao Kahn’s eyes.

I love Gianni's voice and the memes he voices over on Twitter. This fight was not a good showcase of his talent.

It would have been really cool if Shao Kahn did his fatality were he splits his opponents in two with his hands on their chest.

We now need Shang Tsung vs M. Bison

I agree with the environment. I feel like it shouldn't taken place at night. Like imagine the taking place at the MK11 arena but at night? I feel lioe the fight happening during the day is...not good to me given the characters

The only good thing I got from this episode is a picture of Boomstick holding up a barrel of lube and Boomstick and Wiz locking eyes is a semi loving manner. Seriously, wtf was that cut away gag

the Shoa Khan voice sounds like a Soul Caliber Announcer

They rushed that fight so hard. The research blew hard, and the lack of action care to the animation showed. They had months to research everything and it was just them jacking off shoa Kahn and spitting on Akuma

Glad I'm not the only one who had an issue with the fight. How does a 3D fight go from looking as amazing as BROLY VS HULK, To this? Heck Heihachi VS Geese makes this Fight look.... well very Lackluster. They Fought on a Volcano. But Shao and Gouki fight, in a desert..... hmm.....

This episode would have been better if, and i dont say this to be mean, Shao Kahn actually sounded like.... Shao Kahn Its so strange how this is the first episode of season 8 with an actual inaccurate voice. (Or maybe there's another episode that i didn't notice) Like, most people who know fighting games can give a brief summary on how shao sounds, how could you mess that up so spectacularly

Here are my opinions... Akuma vs Shang Tsung: for a very old episode,this is one of my favorite episode Shao Kahn vs Bison: I know who wins,but the Final Bison one suck! Bison has hit Shao Kahn many times in base form,but when he gets in final form,he was the one who gets beaten... Akuma vs Shao Kahn: being an Akuma fan makes it clear why I don't like the episode,but it doesn't means I hate Shao Kahn,I'm also a MK fan. If Shao Kahn's heart was gone,he would've slowly died like what Liu Kang did to him,which also means Kahn couldn't have been able to keep up with his Shun Goku Satsu. Also,I don't understand why characters in SF are weaker in super form than in base form...Shao Kahn easily defeated Shin Akuma which is way stronger than ordinary Akuma

Kahn can react to lightning timers like Raiden lol he can keep up with Shun Goku Satsu hell he can counter it
