    My male and female do this mouthing game every day before walks and dinner and my male sounds like a moose bellowing. My female sounds like she is ready to kill him when she is being playful so the breed is definitely hard to read as if you were not familiar with their individual personalities, you would think there was a dog fight occurring based on the sounds and noise. They are very playful but girl-boy is definitely the only combo that works with this breed as anything else is a ticking time bomb. Great dogs but they do need a firm hand given how large and powerful they are. They can be dog aggressive although they can be trained to sublimate overt hostility but I would never let them run free unsupervised in a dog park since they tend to elicit challenges from every other dog due to their size and dominant personalities. They are very intelligent but also very primitive. Some dogs have some breed traits and not others, but usually in 2 Akita households, you will see all of the cumulative breed traits exhibited from affection, to loyalty to mouthiness, to talking to same sex dog aggression . Akitas are natural born guard dogs as they run toward intruders and only bark if they don't like what they see. They hunt like cats and will commando crawl and pounce. There is significant variance in personality from dog to dog and even within two dogs from the same litter as one may love everyone he meets and his sister may hate every stranger she meets. All tend to be fascinated by children and most are very gentle with children, but as they are large and powerful, they can knock over little kids so caution and supervision is always advisable. As for cats, if they are raised with a specific animal, they are generally fine with that cat, but if a strange cat comes in their yard, it will be hunted like a rabbit or possum. Some as puppies and young adults are very gentle with other dogs but as they grow older and reach maturity (2.5 to 3 years old), they tend to become much less tolerant of strange dogs of the same sex such that they are a breed best kept on a leash and behind a tall fence. Once they dislike another dog, they will be enemies for ever. Very powerful dogs so if you have a dog aggressive one, you have to be extra careful not to let them escape the yard or slip a leash. Highly trainable, but sometimes they ignore their training and refuse to salute. Won't tolerate physical abuse or harsh words so you have to ask nicely and be very positive. Very clean and odorless dogs with no grease or oil in the coats so they are a pleasure to pet. They love the snow and go crazy once it gets cold. They will sleep outside once the temperature drops into the teens or twenties as they seem to just love freezing cold and snow like wolves. They do need daily exercise so a 1 to 2 mile walk depending on the weather is a must. They generally like to trot when out walking so they cover a lot of ground relatively fast. Some are great with stranger people whereas others are very suspicious and not friendly to strangers. Most are not good with strange dogs so meet and greets when on leash is a generally just a bad idea as theses dogs don't warn before they attack and even if the dog behaves 99% of the time, one bad day with a 130 LBS Akita can cause an awful lot of damage and regret so better not take chances as these dogs really do not seek out other other canine pals. They prefer another Akita of the opposite sex and will bond very closely with such a pal. There is often no barking or growling with Akitas and they can go from calm to full red zone in 2 seconds so it is always best to keep a safe distance from strange dogs when out walking just to be safe and avoid unpleasantness. These dogs are intimidating and so many other dogs become fearful and aggressive in their presence. These dogs love to rumble so you have to leash them and train them to ignore other dogs or there may be suicides by Akita when some owner lets his aggressive dog run free and it charges your Akita(s). The good news is that if some criminal attacks you, the Akita(s) will respond with overwhelming force and if someone is foolish enough to break into your home, the Akitas will silently approach and incapacitate an intruder in seconds so they are great security and personal protection dogs. They are not as stubborn as Chow Chows but they are very willful and they have ideas which they will share with your such as "feed me" or "pet me" or "walk me" or "Play with me" and they are not shy about communicating their wants and needs. They are easy to housebreak and they have no doggy odor and they are as clean as cats. All in all, they are very sturdy and healthy if you get them from a reputable breeder. They do have big appetites so you never need worry about dining alone. Overall, they are a gorgeous breed with serious power and personal and property protection capabilities. As with any powerful animal, it is incumbent on the owner to be responsible in regard to controlling and training such an animal so the owner cannot be a low energy passive person or the breed will become dominant and likely rule the roost.

    Ours are definately in love- very sweet- teasing witn toys- but then they give them up, eat from each other's bowls. Love it when friends come over (especially with babies), never yet had reason to get aggressive, but they are fast, work as a team instinctively. Softest mouth when play fighting softer even than our lab, but longer teeth and bigger jaws. Stubborn and unlikely to be fooled by strangers, for sure. Nosy as a teenage girl, and they do NOT give up. Ours were bred for temperment and were raised with affection and attention- they assume they are as much of the family as the rest of us-

  • @jelt110

    @jelt110

    @@memyself1176 they are a more feral breed- more wolf like- they will not show pain- discomfort- weakness- strong runners, jumpers, and jaws of course-- they will seem to fight better because the instinct is to not show fear or pain. This works against more domesticated breeds, but the human has to take care to read the subtle signs the akita shows. Not always easy- best to trsin them gently, short periods, lots of love and affection is essential.

    Mouth-biting and whining- exactly what our boy and girl do. Teasing and playing- this is literally Akita heaven. They care for each other- in similar but different ways than they do with humans. These dogs are very self aware- they have their own minds, ideas, fears, & idiosyncrasies. They are 100% family/pack oriented. If you are in the pack, you are golden. If not, you are watched. Super-opinionated, do not let this sweet, playful behavior fool you- these are serious protectors and hunters, and one must respect that. You simply cannot change that. But if your circumstances allow for this- you will never EVER find a more faithful and loving companion.

    Most amazing dog breed in the world... They rarely show their teeth like that. And never to humans , only to their own kind. They are highly competitive, since they are basically wolves. So the social hierarchy and need to be dominant is strong in them. Don't take your Akita to A dog park, they will instinctively exert their dominant nature and strength on anything.

    Akitas are big, strong animals bred to hunt large game and the bite force of a large dog is enough to crush your hand. If your dog was biting "for real" you'd know it. Nipping and mouthing are natural play behaviours for a dog. You have to train her to understand that play biting people is NOT ok, because she might hurt someone by accident.

Being as vocal as they were to each other you would definitely know when it was no longer playful sibling banter. My two Akita cross sisters do this on a daily basis and are very quick to tell the other when they've had enough. To the video poster: Absolutely fantastic video to watch, reminded me very much of my own and a good comfort to know that it's not just the husky half that is the cause for all the weird and wonderful playtime noises they make!
