They seem to get a really bad name. Most stuff online about them is negative. Saying that they cannot be friendly with other dogs and other people and do not make good family pets. Would be interesting to hear more perspectives from other owners to see if that's all true or not.

@@Liam-ed3pr ive had 3. they tend to be very dominating. they dont do well with other peoples pets. but if you bring a puppy into the family and they grow up with other pets. they will do well with other family pets. and you have to socialize them alot from day 1 to be good with people and other animals. socialize them as much as you can all day every day from day 1. this way they know others are ok to be around. i had a male we didnt socialize. and he only liked me and my brother. i was the one person the dog liked and we loved each other. and didnt like my dad. but no dog ever has. and tolerated others. they are alot of work to handle. this is why people are told not to get them as first time pets.

@@nrood3821 That makes sense. I've taken on rescue dogs in the past who were reactive. I have a previously abused German shepherd now who took 6 months to 1 year to train, build confidence up and become more socialized.

To all the people saying that Akitas should be watched around kids 😂😂😂… An Akita is prob one of the few dogs you could leave a bunch of toddlers alone with overnight in the woods and you’d get the kids back in better shape than when they were left there! They are like the Chuck Norris of babysitters; they only become dominate and defensive around aggressive strange humans and strange dogs… which is what a guard dog is supposed to do. These dogs don’t flaunt there ferocity like a pitbull, they simply watch the shit show and then intervene at an opportune time to eliminate the threat. They are tactical and strong; they don’t put up with shit from nefarious parties of any kind…
