Beautiful Akita. What do you feed him?

Our boy is now 5, with no excess fat a deceptively quick 140 pounds. He can be a goof or a stranger’s worst nightmare…we love him!

I miss my Akitas so much.

From my experience with dominant breeds especially with Akitas. You can have a male and female together with no major issues. Usually having the male as the first/older dog would be ideal. Females are more wary of new dogs coming in the home. Females can not stand each other and more often than not there is no turning back or forgiveness once they get in a fight the bitterness will never go away. As far as for 2 male Akitas only easy way or short cut would be getting 2 brothers from the same litter and everything else should fall into place without much difficulty as long as you feed them separately and apart.

I have heard even if you get 2 males from the same litter they still might get into a lot of fights and also if you have a male and female the same could happen. Do you have Akitas I'm wondering because I really want to get a pair

@@stanmihaylov693 I have a pair of Akitas as well, I would stick to the male/female pair. It’s your safest bet but whatever you do just don’t EVER get 2 females. The females tend to be the more aggressive ones anyway. As long as you socialize both dogs pretty often and give them lots of love and discipline they should be fine. Getting 2 from the same litter increases the chances that they become codependent and could possibly develop a stronger bond to each other than either one has with you or your family (not to mention the separation anxiety if they ever have to be apart.) but I’ve never met anyone who personally had that issue. Just heard about it.

@@VirgilHawkinsIs I have a 2 year old male standard f1b golden doodle and I was looking at Akita’s and I was wondering if I should get a female Akita. Would this be a good fit? The golden doodle has a perfect personality and he wouldn’t care the least bit about being the more dominant dog, but I’m worried because my cousins have a female dog that often visits and stays over, and I know Akita’s have same gender problems.

He looks just like my boy!

Yes, he was the same, even now he is full of energy. I did nothing, I let him to enjoy his life and tried to give everything that he needs 😁

Just don't forget to feed him this is the first rule :)))))) I'm kidding. In the first year I gave him food 3 times a day because he is growing fast and he need a lot of food. Also discuss with a veterinarian to give him calcium, he need for bones to make them stronger.

From my side I can say that you need to have a strong personality to have a good interaction with him, otherwise the breed is very protective and he loves to play a lot :)))) so having energy it's also a thing to take in consideration.

Yes sure!! Is very loyal and protective with kids. I really recommend this breed for a family doesn't matter if you are a first time owner!!

I'm an akita owner with a 3 year old. Bear is highly protective of my son as a member of his 'pack' but she has knocked him on his arse a few times when she's started zooming so I get her walked early now to avoid zooming

She will raise them again don't worry, just try to avoid touching her ears. Mine raised his ears after 3 months so it's ok
