They are cute, no doubt about that! But these aren't just pets. What most people don't understand about Akitas is that they're working dogs. Besides doing police work, being guard dogs, and used for hunting large game, they also are used for backpacking and pulling carts, dogsleds, toboggans, and even travois.

@@alexanderhyatt5359 No sane police department would take on an akita as a service dog but otherwise I agree. As an akita owner myself I know how challenging it is to keep them mentally, physically and emotionally steady.

@@emilias34 I believe that's where you're partly wrong. Akitas were used by police in Japan, as well as parts of the U.K. and the U.S.A., as police dogs, but the reason you don't see them nowadays working as police dogs is because they're not so popular as the German Shepherd, Belgian Malinois, Rottweiler, and Doberman Pinscher. But besides police work, I'm glad that you agree with me that Akitas are hardworking dogs and not just pets as some people think.

American's Akitas have to be experienced to understand how different they are from other dogs. Never have I lived with more vibrant and complex canine personalities. Big talkers, very playful and affectionate yet so damn intimidating when they choose to be. So conscious of their status and dominating but yet so loyal, devoted and dedicated to their packs. Major league hunting prowess - cat like reflexes and hunting skills. Rock star like looks.

I agree. I had a chow akita mix and she was the smartest dog I have ever met. Patient with the kids in the neighborhood would always let them hug and pet her. She would always be pushed up against my toddlers when someone was over regardless if she knew them or not.

Best breed of dog in the world. I will never not have an Akita. There are so many Akitas in rescues and shelters because people do not realize this is not a dog for a casual owner. They are super intelligent, protective, and loyal, but stubborn. They are like owning a bear...you have to establish quickly that you are the alpha.

We got my akita when he was 12 weeks and since then he has been so obedient and he listens really well. He sometimes acts better than other smaller breed dogs or older dogs. It is really because we showed him who was the boss when he was a puppy. Alot of people dont do that and that's when Akitas get aggresive.

I just love them. We just lost our Akita mix after 14 years, he was the best dog in the world. Loved kids, people, was loyal and protective, no one could stand in front of our home without him barking. He was unforgettable. RIP Thor.

My American Akita just turned 1. These dogs are not for everyone, but they’re definitely for me and my husband!! We will NEVER have another breed of dog. I love my akita❤️

Love these dogs. I got a 5 year old akita, he's stubborn but shows his affection towards family and weary of strangers. He hates his pet by strangers but family can touch his head.

These little fluff balls might be the most adorable things of all time!

I love my Akita, I want 2 next time! You definitely need to be the alpha to keep them in check but they love being babied ☺️

My grandmother has 2 male akitas and they sometimes fight,they dont get along to well.I recommend 1 male and 1 female.

My friend has an Akita and she's 8 years old and she's the reason I want one she's the sweetest thing and she always looks like she's smiling and whenever I would let the other dogs out she'd sometimes lay down on her back and make me rub her belly. She's the best dog.

My sympathies, I certainly understand. The pup we kept out of this litter is our eighth akita, they have a way of attaching themselves to your heart, and quickly.

We're in Southeast Alaska. All of these puppies have gone to new homes. We found the mother and another on Craig"s list in the Seattle area. They come up on Craig"s list once in a while but go pretty fast. Check with veterinarians in the area you live to get references to breeders. Purebred puppies from papered sires cost $1000 +. Sometimes you can find pups that people realize they can't handle.One of the dogs we got was a rescue. Check with www.akitarescue.com/.

When we had pups they loved frozen carrots.

I have owned, trained many many breeds. Akitas, Malamutes and Bassets were the most enjoyable and challenging. Akitas and Malamutes are NOT for the first time dog owner! They are both great breeds but require time, training, thought and a strong will. The Basset Hound is the funniest breed I ever owned and God, are they stubborn!..sweetest, easiest going dogs but stubborn!

We've had Sakura (Saki) since she was 8 weeks old, and we love her. She is the 7th Akita we've had and all have been delightful. I have a few videos of Saki posted a couple of years ago.

cool, socializing akita puppies...........I got a male, 3.5 months old n i get it, the socializing.... good job sir.... and my observation, FWIW, the akitas r totally game for meeting nwe people..... so inquisitive n good spirited... they need lots of encouagement n lots of hands on contact ....... nice dog vid :)

All of today's Akitas come from the same few dogs saved after World War Two. Most of the dogs were killed for food and fur( the fur was used in high altitude flight suits and polar gear as frost from breath in extreme cold doesn't stick to it). The remaining dogs were ordered killed by the emperor to prevent the Americans from getting them (sacred royal dogs). A few were rescued by an American soldier and brought to the US. For what-ever reason, the Japanese decided they did not like the results of the American bred dogs, and selectively bred for their own standards. The so-called American Akita is closer to the original breed, but both are fine dogs.

I completely understand where they originated from but I still stand by American Akita and Japanese Akita Inu being two breeds. They're completely different when it comes to their standard looks/build however they do share some similar personalities. We have a male Akita Inu and don't plan on getting another till some time after he passes. We're considering adopting or even purchasing from a breeder again. I'd like to get a male Akita and a female Akita Inu someday.

They are usually eager to please and like to be worked with. Like all smart dogs, they can be stubborn and need a firm hand, but respond well to kindness and gentile handling, and not too well to meanness or abuse.

Did you make your garage puppy proof? Al lot of puppies a lot of supplies

Thanks for the comment, I'm glad you enjoyed the puppies. I took the videos so my daughter-in-law could watch them grow. She was visiting when they were born but had to leave the next day. I never expected anyone else to see them, but they have been watched by quite a few people. I have videos posted from the day after they were born up until they were 7 weeks.
