    Hi. I admire the amount of work done. I envy your self-discipline. Today I was possessed by pain and lay in bed. It has been raining outside for two days. It's a pity that your son crashed the car. I hope he escaped the collision unscathed. Is the deer alive? They also often run out onto the road here, but my wife drives slowly and always manages to stop. It's worse with cats and foxes because they jump straight under the wheels. Take care.

  • @psgflier

    Prime everything that will be exposed to PolyTack and PolyBrush except bare metal or wood. A primer or paint that will withstand exposure to MEK is necessary. The PolyFiber 2 part epoxy primer works good.

    I put a new fuselage on the plane a few years ago, here is a link to the playlist of the complete build-- kzread.info/head/PL66yajaTvAZy4qZEyN9dMi1TrZeK This is a link to my first start at fabric work on the fuselage build-- kzread.info/dash/bejne/gZV-pNtmn9yuiNo.html This is a link to how we made the cover for the fuselage-- kzread.info/dash/bejne/d3-mxtWNmqbSaco.html There is series of doing the covering of the tailfeathers and fuselage, and later in the playlist covering an aileron and flap. Feel free to watch any of these videos and use as you see fit, just remember, I am not an expert at any of this so my free advice is worth what you pay for it. Univair, Aircraft Spruce and others sell a covering video done by the EAA that is pretty good, I use it a lot but the dvd has a crack in it so it won't play all the way anymore. Of course the PolyFibre manual is the bible for the PolyFibre system but it helps to have some video or hand on reference. FAA AC43-13 has a section on fabric covering of course. PolyFibre has a practice kit you can get with some fabric, chemicals and a frame to use to practice on. I got a couple of those to carry with me when I was working in the bush for emergency repairs. The frames worked out to pre-shrink material for making inspection covers and grommets.

    It would cost over $500 for the shipping. That is why I made my own. New bows are between $40 to $90 from the suppliers but shipping to me would be over $400. I was lucky in that a friend was coming here to Alaska from Montana and brought me a couple of white oak boards.

    @@martinabud5735 It's kind of a bummer, I have 4 more good bow blanks, if you were here I'd give you a couple. You should be able to find white oak or ash in your area and have a local wood worker make a couple. The bows are 1" wide, 1/2" thick half round. I think finished length is 94", but it's good to start at least 100". The rear is tapered down to 5/8" wide from just behind the rear spar attach.

    At the bell crank pivot point with the rod should have a thin washer top and bottom with the contersink screw.

  • @psgflier
    @psgflier18 күн бұрын

    2 960L washers are not quite enough to fill the gap, 1 L and 1 regular washer are too much. There is actually a special Piper washer supposed to be used, but , of course, they're expensive and you have to get them from a Piper supplier. 2 thin washers leave a little slop, just don't tighten the bolt up to the point of compressing the ears on the bell crank to take the slop out..

  • @psgflier
    @psgflier18 күн бұрын

    Unfortunately there are not any real good videos on You Tube showing the Poly Fiber process. I watched a lot of videos when I needed to learn when I covered the fuselage and tailfeathers. Above Alaska Aviation did several airplanes for the Alaska Airman's Assoc. raffles. If you slow them down you can get some pointers. There was a young woman, Iapplyufly, posting videos then that had some good pointers. Spencer Aircraft posted some clips of a covering seminar they sponsored. The clips are short and cut out a lot, but, again, some good stuff can be gleaned I have a dvd that the old poly fiber put out that is pretty good. There are some clips of it on You Tube but they are chopped up pretty bad. The ones from Consolidated that has Poly Fiber now leave a lot to be desired, bad music in place of instructional narration. There is some cross-over from Stewart Systems, but the chemicals are too different to rely on too close.

    A friend brought me a couple of white oak boards. Piper plans call for ash or white oak, I've read some guys that used hard maple. The white oak worked pretty good and is one of the most decay resistant woods.

    Good evening. The sheet metal on the wing looks great and I'm happy that it's getting closer to the end. Today I was laying the glaze for half the day and thinking about you and your wing. At the end, my wife told me that I had made a mistake with the pattern and it was not a good day. I'll fix it tomorrow :) I hope the glue won't dry out. I wish you health.

    That's basically the gearbox from a South Bend lathe. Mr. Pete says that designing that gear box drove one of the South Bend engineers insane. I spent a day assembling, disassembling, re-assembling, re-disassembling (etc) one of the things on a South Bend 10" lathe a few years ago. I can see *why* it drove that guy insane.

    Hello again psgflier. I contacted you about 1-1/2 or 2 years ago on your restoration of this Mobile Dimension sawmill. Looking through your extensive playlist of various videos, it looks like you have done about 30 videos on this mill. This one on the edger shaft being the last one and it done 2 years ago... So I am a bit more than curious to ask: did you ever get it totally done and running? Was there any more videos on it after this one?

    I had to stop working on the mill to get my plane ready for the season. I've wanted to get back to it, especially when I look at the pile of parts all repaired and ready to go back together, but have too many projects that are more important.
