    Hi John. I have been following you closely for about 6 months. Your teaching is so different, refreshing and has improved my golf swing 100%. I live in Ghana, if i lived near i would be begging for a lesson. Thanks, keep up the good work, fantastic! Cheers

    I prefer the right hand dominate Mike Austin swing. Its fun to swing with the right. I will try this tip, though, to use on those tight fairways.

    Hi John I was told that I had to much lag in my swing and not enough push with the right arm. My coach had me think right arm long on the down swing.

    I've always struggled with the right arm bc it is my dominant arm, obviously. I've been breaking Hogan's pane of glass for lots of years by lifting, extending it too much & tipping it over the plane in transition. With the flatter swing & body rotation move that John advocates in the forward swing, you swing under the glass every time. People always say Hogan's pane of glass visual was wrong, and you should be more worried about shaft plane. But your club is only aligned on that shaft plane one time - at address. The swing isn't 2 dimensional anyway.

    Best to come from below plane into the strike... then apply rapid torso rotation and forearm rotation to pressure the shaft back onto plane from P3 to P4. Post impact.... past P4 the shaft should start getting more vertical if the torso is doing it's work correctly and still driving and pressuring the clubshaft into finish. Dynamics and opposing forces create plane.. not aiming and guiding. I never strive to be "on plane". Speed and acceleration create it.. like spinning a rock around on a string.

    Hi John!! As always, thank you for your insights. Following you for about 5 months now. I want to tell you that I came back this in the range yesterday. I'm going back and forth arms / no arms trying to decide what's best. You're right, this is a lot more consistent... but I just can't add power. I get a great impact feel but I also feel like I'm pushing the ball and loosing some speed (although I'm not sure I'm loosing that much distance). Question. Can the right wrist be relaxed till, like, last minute??! I mean, how do you increase speed without loosing consistency ? Thanks again!!

    You learn to hit hard with the body and not the arms. We have extensive drills and instruction in the ABS Course that teach students exactly how to do this. You are correct in that you will appear at first to lose power, but we show you how to substitute that from a different and more reliable source.

    @@lagpressure Oh, one thing I wished after the 50th ball or so, was to have a heavier club to try on. It seems that I was slower but a lot stronger, so why don't add more mass.... right ??

    John, do you believe the majority of fat shots are caused by the straightening of the right arm? Asking for a friend...

  • @lagpressure

    @lagpressure

    It's a major culprit... sure.. but early uncocking of the wrists can do this... improper weight shift also. I became a much better ball striker when I reigned in the right elbow straightening. It forces you to hit with the body and not the arms.

    I’ve heard reference to a “frozen right arm”. Could you explain this concept?

  • @lagpressure

    Hogan talked about this... off the record with Johnny Miller if I remember correctly. If we minimize any right arm straightening from P3 to P4, then we can take out a major problem in the golf swing. Right arm straightening through the strike is very problematic for most. While it can supply some extra power, it facilitates pre mature clubface closure and also can affect lowpoint control. I've found it much better to reign this in.. and substitute it for increased torso rotational speed post impact. It's almost impossible to hit the ball left if you freeze the right elbow through the strike. It will straighten some from the top down to P3, and can straighten some into finish from P4 to finish... but stabilizing the right elbow from P3 to P4 is a golden move. Hogan was all over this move and I will not disagree.

    In the initial part of the downswing, the arms do straighten a bit to get the hands down to the right pocket, right? Say to 120 degrees or so?

    @@lagpressure It's the only way I can mentally play golf by focusing on my right hand and arm. Jim Mclean has a right hand slap drill that gives me positive feedback. I'm glad I found your channel a great way to convey the crazy twisted golf swing..
