    Thanks John. I've learned so much from your videos and the ABS forums. You are an amazing teacher.

    So hard to get my students to practice divots and or brush drills on uneven lies. Eye hand brain programming is way under rated in my humble opinion. Great video!

    Back in the 80's when I was a teen I read an article by a teaching pro and one of the tips he gave was to practice clipping the grass. No divots, just clip the grass. I still practice that 40 years later.

    great vid. Easy to do on the course as well, just swinging at bits on the fairway etc in between shots

    6:09 If I remember correctly there's an anecdote about Hogan where he had been found practicing hard on the range after a tournament where he played very well. Someone walked up to him and asked why he was still practicing after the game. He answered something like "I wanted to see how to swing when I'm tired"

    This is what Spieth does on the range before he hits golf balls. Just brushing the grass trying to locate his low point. Then he tests out his ability for the day to hit huge cuts and draws, basically calibrating his swing.

    The low point is 2-4 inches past the ball, but under the ground. If you take a proper divot, the low point is under the ground a bit and past the ball. If you grasp that, you can compress the shit out of it.

    Love it! Is the drill with one hand only or can you do it with both?

    Would be even better to with one hand... sure... but great value in both hands as well.

    With the advent of theses mats like divot daddy, it’s really great to see your contact. But where should divot point after contact. Straight? Right? Left?

    long like a dollar bill... shallow like a dollar bill... should tail off slightly left if you are taking advantage of flat lie angles..

    John, what is your opinion of Mike Adams and the theory of three different posts: front, center, rear? For example - Baddeley is front, Rory is center, and Luke Donald is rear. Spinner launcher and glider. All in relation to spiking GFRs in sequence? Not everyone is the same. I found I'm a rear poster glider but somehow got into the thinking of having to be a center or front poster. This concept really clicked for me as before going after the pursuit of more distance I naturally was a rear poster. Found through hitting thousands upon thousands of golf balls. Even had teachers trying to get me out of the glider swing saying I was sliding. But I still hit it over 290 pretty consistently. Your swing looks like a glider swing with more lateral shift and deep angles. Which I'm naturally inclined to do as well.

    I've found their biomechanic stuff just as good as you have. Front/centre poster here. Have gone (I think) from front to front /centre over time

    @@ironsideeve2955 It's completely freed up my swing. I'm back to focusing on being creative and acting intuitively. See the shot feel the shot hit the shot. No more focusing on what my lower body is doing. It just does it naturally. If I'm striving after distance, it's about getting into better athletic shape and arm speed. 10 plus years down the wrong road trying to hone in a post that is not my style. And a few teachers encouraging me to work the wrong post🤢. It's amazing the strives Baddeley and Donald have made late in their careers. Donald from 108 to 118 mph. Good stuff.

    I'm not familiar with Mike Adams, but sounds like he is referring to weight transfer protocols based upon stance width. Wider stances are more stable particularly with the longer clubs and if you use weight transfer to initiate the downswing, you can save your pivot rotation for later... not having to open up the shoulders quickly from the top... which leads to running out of gas on the downswing and through the strike. Hogan, Knudson, Moe, Player, all had very wide stances for good reason.

    @@MichaelShinosky Clubhead speed maximization has very little to do with playing good golf. If you shoot 72, roughly 62 of those shots will require a specific distance... not maxed out. Hitting the ball an extra 20 yards off the tee doesn't mean you are going to deduct a shot off your score. Hitting the ball long and left over a green might cost you a shot or two.

    John, do you think it's important for the right hip to go an inch or two deeper than the tush line in the backswing? Hogan did that more than anyone.

  • @lagpressure

    @lagpressure

    Shoulder rotation is the main thing.. but if a certain knee action or hip action facilitates that, then .... sure... that would be good. Hogan had great hip action... delayed before the strike, then opened aggressively to keep stress on the shaft through and beyond the strike.
