I was on that very deck today :) Of course John stripped a 1-iron deep into the canyon.

Hi John, I used these principles some 25 years ago to become a 4.3 index in my 1st year of golfing. I gave the game up 20 years ago when I had children but continued to apply them with my hitting instruction in baseball with great success. I have been a long time advocating the 2 swings are the same done on different planes and after years of arguments, I watch teachers on KZread finally agreeing. Last month I put the clubs back in my hands after my son, now 20 showed an interest in learning 😊 my question is about lie angles which. I have been researching. I came across an old spec sheet of Mr Hogan from 1953 in which when compared to standards of the time put him 1-2 degrees flatter depending on club. I also compared both spec sheets against the 2022 Hogan icon irons and they are very close to standard of 1953 standard. Ex 2022 5 iron and 1953 5 iron 61 degrees and Mr Hogan 5 iron 59 degrees. I hear you speak of 6 degrees flat but that would put a 5 iron at 55 degrees and 4 flatter than Mr Hogan even. Can you help clarify for me, any help in guidance would be greatly appreciated. Keep up the great work, thanks Brian

Where do you stand on knee flex? Moe had no knee flex so I go back and forth on it. I’m going to go 6 degrees flat and I don’t know how I’m going to be able to accommodate the 6 degree flat clubs being lower to the ground. Knee flex, bending over more, lowering hands etc. are the only ways I see being able get low enough to make 6 degree flat lie angle clubs work.

Try bending your knees more... not bending from the waist. Keep the spine more erect.. so you can turn and rotate more level. That would be the better way to do it.

@@lagpressure that’s what I was planning on doing but then I saw videos where Moe Norman didn’t flex his knees so I keep waffling. Do you think there is merit to both ways?

@@gunner1484 Moe started with his right leg straight.. but not locked. He called it a post to turn upon. Then to start the downswing, he would flex his knees quickly to change the direction of the club and this works really well. Pretty much how I swing now.
