    i agree!!! having good boots when you're starting is really important~ i bought my first pair off of ebay. they were used, v. cheap but the wrong size and i never sharpened them 🥴 i kept skating in them until the bottom seperated & flew out from underneath me 😂😂😂 worst decision ever

    Good god, hope you didn't break anything! It is very important indeed, the other day (I am still using rentals) the plastic cuff kept digging into my ankle and I had blisters in just 20 minutes and had to almost crawl my way out of the rink 😪

    Hi Jada 😊 I just randomly stumbled over your account and am honestly surprised you don't have thousands of followers. You're doing such great content as far ad I could see so far! I'm a beginner skater from Germany that started this winter season 😊 first on my own and now I am in group lessons since February. So, your content is well appreciated and I love how all (adult) skaters support each other 🥰

    Knee Pads, Knee Pads, KNEEE PADS…. are as necessary (or more,) than gloves. You NEVER stop falling, ever. Unless you stop progressing. I broke my arm when I was learning my double axel (1970’s)

    Thank you for this!! Are there skates you recommend that don’t have leather? Ones that will give you the support you need later for jumps or does that just not exist? (I bought Jackson ultima excel and was going to exchange for a diff size, but I’m realizing that’s not a good support. I saw your video on artiste and was strongly considering those but now I’m not sure. I went to a skate shop and the owner showed me Jackson Ovo but I’m waiting on a response from the company to find info out on that one. My guess is that they aren’t animal free.

    I know Edea and Golden Horse skates are vegan as a brand, but most brands do tend to have a leather sole beyond the instructional level (sadly). If you plan on jumping I wouldn't get the Artistes--definitely gonna run those through the ground way too fast.

    Hello, I am 16 years old about 5'4 and weigh and about 150lbs. Do you think artiste skates will last me through out my basic levels and maybe freeskate 1 or 2? Thank you❤ 😁

  • @MindfulBanter

    They should definitely get you through your basic skills! I'm not certain about freeskate 2 but it all depends on how quickly you get through things and how much you'll practice. Once you start jumping waltz or toe it'll be time to look into new skates, you'll know how soon once you get there.

    I'm an adult and 5'4 and 120lbs, I was recommended the Jackson mystiques but was wondering if there's a big difference between them and the artiste as a beginner in learn to skate? Theres about $50 difference in price

  • @MindfulBanter

    @MindfulBanter

    Mystiques are a step down from Artistes. Based on your weight, it might be the better option since it would take you longer to break in the Artistes. I usually avoid recommending anything lower than a 20 support for adults since our feet don't grow and you can hold onto skates for longer. I would worry about breaking in the mystiques too quickly to the point where you "outgrow" them skill-wise and you'll have to spend another $300 on the next skate in the same year.

    @@MindfulBanter to clarify do you mean the mystiques would be better since it would be faster to break them in but I might outgrow them too quickly? Or the artistes are better because they would take longer to break in and would also last longer? I am hoping on something that can last me at least a year but I don't know what is a reasonable time for a pair of skates

  • @MindfulBanter

    @MindfulBanter

    I think if you're going to be taking lessons and practicing weekly, you're probably better off with the artistes since they should last longer than the mystiques. If you were planning on being a seasonal skater (i.e. only skating in the winter) the mystiques would be fine.

    Hi, I'm a self-taught adult beginner skater on basic 3 level. I only skated in the horrible blue plastic rentals up to now and decided it's time to buy skates. There is no pro-shop in my country, so I don't know what to buy. I'm 117 lbs(53 kg) and 5'5(165 cm) and I'll be skating 2-3 times a week. The recommended skate for my level is Jackson Artiste(acording to the stifness scale) but I'm not sure if it is the right decision. Does anyone have an idea? I can't afford to autgrow the boots too fast and buy new ones this year. Should I go for Elle or Freestlye instead if Artiste?

  • @MindfulBanter

    Hi! I would definitely go with the Freestyles if you want to hold onto them for a while. They might be a bit stiff but you can break them slowly in as an adult and get at least a year or 2 out of them
