Jackson Artiste Figure Skate Review | Beginner Figure Skates for Adults

Raise your hand if you're struggling to find a pair of figure skates!

The Jackson Artistes are pretty basic skates that allow just enough support for beginners to build strength and feel comfortable learning skills in their own skates. At $180, they sit perfectly competitive with many instructional skates. Watch the video to learn why these might be the right skates to choose!
Making this purchase is super stressful, and most skaters go through at least one or two full sets before they settle on something that works for them. In my untitled figure skate review series, I will help you figure out what skates work and which ones absolutely will not.

    hii ! I was wondering what size did you buy them? Are they bigger than your actual feet sizes or maybe smaller ?

    Ah so these actually were a little too big at a size 8, really should have gotten a 7.5. My street shoe size is a US 9/9.5 so you should expect to get skates around 1.5 to 2 sizes smaller. There's a conversion chart on Jackson's website but I would suggest going to a proper fitter 🥰

    I’m an 8 in street shoes and was told either a 7 or 6.5 (since people’s feet are usually 2 different sizes) was good for me, the man who fit me who is an expert who’d ears with olympians etc ultimately put me in a 6.5 and they have been so comfy.

    @MindfulBanter, this was very helpful. I am very nervous about buying inexpensive beginner skates from all brands, due both to my weight(which is a bit on the heavy side, at 300 lb) and not wanting to buy another pair in a year due to financial concerns. I'm planning to budget about $400-$500 max, so I have options. I also have issues with ingrown nails, so I need a wider/stretched toe box. Hopefully, I can find a good balance at my first fitting next month.

    This was a very informative video. I have Mystiques, and they are not that supportive, but I am just a recreational adult skater that has recently enrolled in Adult Canskate here in Canada. My Jackson Freestyles have arrived and I will soon move on to those. My goals are to be as proficient as possible in Ice Dance. In an effort to save money over time, I also have the Jackson Supreme Low Cut Dance boot with the Apex Dance blade that I can eventually graduate to. They are far too stiff for my current level, however I can look forward to moving up to them in a few years. Thanks for your video, as it is very helpful to us older skaters who have little to no idea where to start.

    Artiste was my first skate too, and it was awesome. Tbh, i do not skate a lot (like dedicated, since i am also working) but I've tried taking lessons using this and i am currently at Freestyle 1. My Artiste is currently 2 or 3 years old (minus the pandemic year, probably my last skate was first quarter of 2020). This helps me learn how to skate, and I've also tried jumping with this skates and learned how to do a single loop. As of now, this year, rinks here in our country are going to open and i will be using them for the first time by the end of the month and i hope it still holds 😆. I'm going to upgrade my skates to Edea Chorus soon 👍 You've got a new subscriber!!!😄👍

  • @MindfulBanter

    @MindfulBanter

    I've never seen them in person, but based on videos, they look a little flimsy, not very padded, maybe even a little uncomfortable? If it's the same boot they use for roller, I wouldn't buy them... For that price point there are just so many reputable figure skating brands where the skates can last you a while.

    thank you for your suggestion. I am still deciding what I wanted to do. I just bought recently the Jackson Artiste (1 month ago) and based on your review I already want to change for the Freestyle. My only concern would be the height of the heel , on the Freestlyle they are higher, aren't they? would I find my balance ??etc.. I am in stage of learning but my goal is do jumps and fancy spins lol. thank you!

  • @MindfulBanter

    @MindfulBanter

    I'm not too sure about the heel height, but you should adjust just fine if you're switching from a Jackson boot to another Jackson boot. If you were switching to Edea maybe it would be an issue.

    They'll be fine for a while, but you may find them to be too flat at some point. Most people I know ended up switching the blade if they notice it holding them back.

    Jackson artiste is my first ice scate and i have been scating with them for 6 years now This year i have started doing single jumps with it and At the past one of the boot's plastic part has fell off but we got it fixed... now its fine They are comfortable But i guess not so supportive for jumps like she says in the video But for scating skills and spins it is enough for you to bring u to a pretty professional level But u should know that after about 5 years the plastic part will probably seperate.. most of my scater friends also experienced it So this is a fact for jacksons in general Because of this i would suggest edea scates.. they are better for material quality but sadly with a less affordable price (":

    Hi Jada. I am currently skating in Mystiques just because I need to build strength in my ankles. I am an adult skater weighing about 145 and I am a male. They are easy to tie up and provide enough support for the basic fundamentals. I also have the Jackson Freestyles, but have changed the blade to the Apex Dance because this is where my focus lies. Do you think that I should hold off skating in the Freestyles until I have developed some confidence and balance, or should I try them out. I have only just started with a coach, but have skated recreationally so I am not an absolute beginner. Thanks

  • @MindfulBanter

    @MindfulBanter

    2 жыл бұрын

    I don't see an issue either way. You can develop ankle strength in Freestyles through how you tie your skates, but the blade might be an extra new thing you might not benefit from as much. Your coach will know if your Mystiques are holding you back--that's when I would switch.

    @@MindfulBanter Hi Jada, I have been really enjoying skating in the Freestyles, I love the support and I have had three sessions with a coach and in the third session really started to feel comfortable in the Apex Dance Blade. The fact that the edges are slightly tapered takes some getting used to, but once you do, it's heaven. Happy Skating and good luck with School.

    Hey there! :) I just ordered mine and I hope they fit because in the area are no ice skate shops. Usually I wear a 7, sometimes 7.5 (depends on the shoe, for example on New Balance I wear a 7) and I have ordered a size 6. These are my first good skates as I used to skate on some cheap 25 $ Decathlon skates (which had 240 mm inside). I hope I made a good choice. Finding the right ones is a huge struggle :(

    So I've been skating in my jackson artises got about a year or so. In that year I passed pre pre lim mifs, prelim dances and going to pass pre bronze soon. I've also competed solo dance in them. Do you think the edges are able to be really deep on this boot/blade? Or is it holding me back? Thanks!

  • @MindfulBanter

    @MindfulBanter

    Ehh you don't need super deep edges until silver/pre-gold dances, but I'd argue you could benefit from a lower cut boot.

    @Mindful Banter one more question if you don't mind. In solo dance competition, an edge doesn't count unless its deep. Do you think the blade isn't letting me get deep enough? I noticed everyone else had dance blades.

  • @MindfulBanter
