if you have solid axles, no suspension mods will overcome the inherent limitations. the solution to the issues you mention is to install 4 wheel independent suspension, such as the Timbren axles. then add 4 wheel disc brakes, controlled by electric over hydraulic.

Do you think that the never fail bushing kit would correct that? I was only curious that if the worn bushings would cause it to be out of alignment this much. Thanks!!

I'm very happy that you're a satisfied AF owner because I do believe their units have many perks, however, in the last 7-8years they have adopted many of the design, engineering, and construction practices that LCI and the big manufacturers in Indiana do. This is almost a necessity as they have developed cost effective strategies to get them through the slow seasons. Honestly, there isn't much that differs between an Artic Fox Fifth wheel frame and many of the large volume brands. Their frame design is more inline with what you might see on a Columbus, Gateway, and Coachmen Fifth Wheel.

I really like the shock kit. FWIU, this kit is now sold under the Roadmaster name. But I have to disagree with the poster's enthusiasm of the self tapping bolts. I just had to re-build the fresh water tank support structure on our 5th wheel. To make a long story short, the water tank was held up by the same self tapping bolts. Most of them were coming out or pulling loose. The weak point is not the bolt, but the fact the metal they are cutting threads into, is not very thick. I replaced all of the self tapping bolts with 3/8" grade 8 bolts & nuts. Much better and stronger. I just ordered this same Roadmaster shock kit for our 5th wheel. I will be doing the same thing I did with the water tank support structure repair. I will throw out all the self tapping bolts and use grade 8 bolts & nuts.

I put 25k on my landscape trailer every year, you have just been a God send. Also something you didn't talk about is the bolts that old the springs on have a crimped lock nut and with rust is very hard to get off. When I mean hard I mean my 700ft lb impact gun will not budge them and I have to either heat them up with a torch or use a massive breaker bar. Then you have to be prepared to get the bolt out of the hole like with a air hammer or mall. This is easy job to do, but if you don't have the right tools it is impossible to do.

JCLawn51 Or penitrating fluid and let it sit for a day or so. Keep recoating it and itll come off. The only rusty bolt that ever let me down was one from an 83 dodge d150 stepside with original factory shocks that i replaced right after buying the truck in 2015. Had to use a bolt cuter otherwise every other rusty bolt popped out with ease.

An RV is any conveyance that is used for recreation. RV means recreation vehicle not motorized recreation vehicle. Anyway, you can easily spend over $100,000 on an RV pull trailer and they don't put these pieces on because the corporate offices that own these businesses need to be paid. Corporate profit is what is important to them, not nuts and bolts that hold the trailer together. I have seen top end RV 5th wheels with broken frames and chipboard on the bottom of the unit exposed to the elements.

Wow. Super easy install. But, maybe it's just my propensity to overbuild things, but, those shocks in a single shear mount setup are questionable to me. Yes, the metal is extremely thick, but I would wonder about the torsional load that it puts on that bracket(s) with the extension piece over time. Although, I didn't recall if they are simply oil filled, or nitrogen, but I still wonder. I sure do like it, though.

Luke Edward I had similar thoughts. It reminds me of how shocks are mounted on motorcycles at the fender.

I've noticed a Joy Rider user has experienced fatigue cracking in the lower brackets with one of the brackets failing completely with that shock absorber just hanging freely. Are you seeing anything like that in your install? I also notice that the product is now labelled Joy Rider 2. I can't really see the difference between the original and the "2" version from photos though.

have you removed the andersen hitch from your truck yet? The only complaint i have with mine is that it made small dents at a couple on the corners inside by bend where the hitch made contact with the bed.

I've heard of that happening. I have mine removed currently and hanging in my garage. I had no bed damage and I'm assuming that my Bedrug assisted in preventing the bed from being damaged.

How is the joy Rider system holding up or held up? The reviews don't look good at all. Also the jack stands they were using looks like harbor freight specials. I love mine. I've used them a ton.

Shane Daft: they are installed during the interior construction, generally before the side walls are installed. They are removed by taking out one of the larger windows, slipping the fridge through, then reinstalling the Windows.

Ron, next time you work on shackles, take the shackle set it over a short piece of pipe, drop the bolt in, now you can drive it in place with a hammer. You should never take those nuts back off once tighten them up. Those are crush type locknuts.

What psi are you running the sailuns at? I recently purchased a keystone raptor 352ts. It's essentially 39 feet 15k double axle and came with the s637's which I was super stoked about as I was going to purchase prior to taking delivery. I am just not sure on psi.

Big Truck Big RV backwards. Sidewall flex creates more heat thus tire pressure. In fact a tires rated carrying weight is at max COLD tire pressure.

I'm not doughting anything, just got a question. with them self taping bolt's, with bumps and everything you deal with on the highway, and with metal expanding when hot wouldn't that make them loose? and would you sometime make a video with a camera in the RV while you drive? love the product though

  • @BigTruckBigRV

To be completely honest, I though the same thing might happen before actually seeing how well they tab and thread the hole. I'll inspect routinely and if there are any signs of them loosening, I'll report on it and change the fasteners to through bolts.

I notice most RV wheels are not balanced, that would help lots on vibration reduction too

  • @loveracing1988

    @loveracing1988

peterincgy the problem is trailer tires sit a lot, which causes flat spots which throw off the balance. So unless you drive constantly with the trailer the balance will be off anyway.
