I heard Adam Ant say in an interview once that he developed his dancing style from his trying to avoid being hit by things being thrown at him by people in the audience in his early performing days.

Fun fact: It was Adam Ant that gave Michael Jackson fashion tips. Michael got Quincy Jones to call him up at like 3am to say Michael wanted to talk to him, Adam thought it was a band member making a prank call, but it was actually Michael wanting to know where he got his military jackets from.

To fully appreciate Adam and the Ants and why they became so huge in the UK, you'll need to understand what late 70s/early 80s UK was like. It was a time of anger, anti-government demonstrations, national strikes, and a more militant side to politics. The Irish Republican Army (IRA) were attacking military and government targets all across mainland UK with civilians unfortunately regularly being caught in the crossfire. There was a huge dissatisfaction with the government of the day, and people were begging for change, yet the 'old school' authorities were not ready to concede. On this background, a group of rowdy lads in weird clothes had the courage to stand up and say publicly "We don't want this anymore, things need to change." Most of their early songs are more punk and anti-establishment, but as they grew they became more socially relevant with songs like AntMusic and Stand and Deliver. Both of which are trying to lead the youth of the day to be different from their parent's generation, and forge their own paths. Unplug the jukebox and do us all a favour, is saying that the way things are currently going is not workng for the new generation. That music's lost its taste, let's try another flavour, says that the youth want their turn to make the decisions. And the repeated Antmusic is a rallying cry to unite behind. So successful were they, that Adam (real name Staurt Goddard) had great difficulty coping with the stress of then fame it brought. With his mental health suffering, at the peak of their fame, they suddenly just stopped having released their best seminal album Prince Charming and just finished the associated tour A few years later Adam came back with a fairly successful solo career (Puss in Boots, Appollo 9, etc), but it never reached the same heights. His mental health declined, and he quietly disappeared again. Now today, he's much better and mentally stronger, and tours again with a new group. The impact Adam and the Ants had on the youth of the UK back then can never be underestimated. It gave us our 'be loud, be proud' attitude and a drive and purpose, that I think, is missing from later generations.

Stuart Goddard (Adam) came out of the punk scene and their early stuff was still quite punky, he also starred in the cult punk film "jubilee" his music and look was inspired by American first nations, pirates, 70's glam rock and a bit of punk thrown in. In the early 80's they were everywhere and the band were huge for a short time. I've seen Stuart live a few times and even now after everything he has been through he still puts on a show. Along with the sex pistols, Billy Idol, Siouxsie Sioux of the Bromley contingent Toyah Wilcox, Adam and even Shane MacGowan all started their music careers from that time moving music on as they saw it.

I was but a wee child when this came out, but they were always on the telly and they left a lasting impression on the 4 year old version of me that holds firm to this day. Adam Ant got scorned in his time but I thought he had some good , fun music . People can be so serious ,retentive , and snarly . That is why I never cared for a lot of Metal Music . I think he got his name from a cartoon character . Would love to see a cartoon of this music , I could just see a bunch of ants marching in perfect time hence military like and doing those background vocals . Anyway if you like this you might try Buck Owens and the Buckeroos’ “ Sam’s Place” . It is a different genre but it has the same benign , happy spirit .Your reaction is perfect !

Before starting their 2nd album, Adam Ant asked Malcolm McClaren ( creator of The Sex Pistols) to be their manager. Instead Malcolm stole The Ants and formed another band called Bow Wow Wow which featured a 14 year-old Burmese girl as lead singer. Another fact which is mentioned in his autobiography is that he is part Romany (i.e. Gypsy).

Robin Williams no trata a sus fans como lo hace Adam Ant,en ese sentido no le llega a los talones, debe ser por eso que no me gusta su versión...

Think this was more like New Wave. His big MTV hit was Goody Two Shoes. I think some of the Ants left to form Bow Wow Wow, the group that gave us I Want Candy in the early 80s.

I think the members were "stolen away" by the manager. Thus the similar sounds.
