This boat is a vintage beauty. Its a "Ketch" style yacht named Eilean that was built in 1936. The boat was sailed under many different owners over the next 5 decades. In 2006, Italian watchmaker Panera saw her in an English channel in a sad state of disrepair. Instantly recognizing her from Duran Duran videos Panera bought her and arranged for her to be completely restored. She was re-launched in 2009 as part of an advertising campaign for Panera. In 2012, some original members of Duran Duran were present when Eilean was featured in the classic yacht regatta in Antigua. They wept as she sailed across the finish line in all her original glory.

This song has the best saxophone solo ever! I think the song has a Double entendre meaning (person or place)! The video itself made me laugh due to the prat falls of the band members following this beautiful woman around. The song came out in 1982 and the video came out in early 83. @@nancyandrews398 Nancy, THANK YOU...... I have never seen pictures of Drum. I remember that some of the racing boats even looked like the ship on Cutty Sark bottle.... but were called "Fast Yachts"..

For me the song is about Rio de Janeiro (the city in Brazil) but in the song the city was embodied as a beautiful woman.

i heard once that the song represents how the felt coming to america the first time. it certainly isn't obvious from the lyrics, but if you listen to it with that idea, you get a whole different sense of the song.

They were pretty popular when I was in junior high, but by the time I got to high school they were starting to fade a bit. The last single from them that I remember was Wild Boys, which I think was released in 1987, but I could be wrong. It's been a LONG time since I was in high school.

Glad you're doing Duran Duran. You can't get much more '80s than them! This song (Rio) is one of their most famous but never been one of my favourites. You gotta hear 'Planet Earth; 'The Reflex'; 'Save A Prayer'; 'Electric Barbarella' ...and, best of all: 'A View To A Kill' (but don't watch the video for it - it's terrible! Audio only for that one.)

I agree on View to a Kill. The video is cute and funny, but it takes away from the song because there are so many sound effects and dialogue, etc.

A catchy well produced radio hit which was the group's first I believe. Their name Duran Duran caught some flak because it sounded like RFK assassin Sirhan Sirhan.
