I had a Krav coach who I realised was legit in that there was no attempts to sugarcoat or bullshit any special techniques or moves and in a way it hurt the business as people wanted those easy confidence boosting things like that guy shows. I was interested in doing instructor training down so I was allowed to attend the military only class that couldn't do before and it was night and day difference. The civilian class deals with de-escalation and fitness and extremely selective direction for when force was reccomended. The idea for that class is that survival is the focus so verbal communication and best way comply with attackers is the main philosphy based on the idea that if someone who was going to kill you would do it from 10 meters away or further so they usually want something and only when they try to take you somewhere that force is considered or imminent threat to life. The other class was totally different and had the caveat that the hand to hand situation is totally different for soldiers and will almost certainly result in serious injury in some form or another for you and the opponent. The direction is that after the initial move, its pure violence that will win it rather than a clean disarm no-jutsu. I saw how seriously he meant about getting injuries when each scenario or exercise would follow medical practice for the most likely injuries for each one. I.e disarming a knife will almost always get you cut up or stabs as the actual techniques taught involve the use of blocking with a forearm and the retaliation by anyone trained is to drag the knife away and dig it into the flesh, opening it all up so once the fight is done, you have to torniquet and assess how much blood you have lost. There were even exercises that involve attempting to maim or cripple the opponent so that if they kill you, the next person who comes in can finish them off. It was gnarly, like CS GO entry fragging in real life.

It can't be fired with the slide back even a little but there's is one important detail. The slide takes way more force to pull back than an airsoft gun. An airsoft gun you can probably pull it back with your tongue. A real gun a child could probably not pull the slide back, at least not without a ton of effort. You could still do it obviously, but this would make this technique noticeably harder and more than likely result in you just pushing the dudes arms back and getting shot unless he's got really stiff arms before you touch the gun for some reason, but that's just unreliable more so than basic disarm techniques.

@Jonathan when the slide moves back, it pulls the hammer/striker back as well. That's no to mention you can't fire the gun with an open chamber or that the round would have been, if not extracted completely, then not properly seated in the chamber.

To be fair, literally any kind of counter will give you a decent chance if someone is holding you point-blank, Hollywood style. If you’re ever holding someone at gun point (in a defense situation), never get any closer than 20 feet. Police have learned from MANY instances that an attacker can easily cover shorter distances before being stopped. Point blank gives them easy access to your own gun, and it’s actually easier to dodge or run. Imagine being 20 feet away. You start running 3 feet left or right, they only have to move the barrel an inch. If you’re point blank, 3 feet is 3 feet.

That’s what pisses me off so much, a lot of self defense takes time to train with someone in person to actually be helpful. Just watching his videos isn’t enough, and it’s concerning how many people he could be emboldening and making think they can just grab at the gun as if it doesn’t take a split second to pull the trigger, and the person with the gun is waaay more likely to shoot if they think they’re being attacked. Could these help someone? Maybe, but it’d be closer to dumb luck than skill. Everyone wants to think they’d turn into a video game mc in a confrontation but without real training it’s hard to have the reflexes and mobility to pull this off like you were saying. people should be encouraged to attend real self defense classes if they can and not just have a vague sense that they can knock the gun out of the way and be fine
