ANV is pretty new on the market, just about one or two years. The founder used to work for other knife making czech companies before. I bought one of the first series of Z100 titanium and p300. They have some minuses, but the company is improving really fast. I use both now as backup in my car GHB.

I LOVE ANV Knives. Due to connections I had, I got to go to an event of a local blade shop who had just picked them up into their stock. They were completely new to me, I had never heard of them - I was told they had already made a good first impression at IWA of that year a few minutes before I got there, that was all I knew. To my surprise, it was the CEO and the Chief Designer there themselves, just chatting to people and talking about knives. They presented their current lineup, future projects, why they picked which materials and gave a little virtual tour of their factory via a video. I was very very impressed. I ended up buying the Z400, which was back then their shiniest newest model and only came in one color/material combo - stonewashed blade with black G10 handle - if I could choose now, I'd get a black blade. I even got the Ondrej, the Chief Designer, to sign the box for me as I had fallen in love with the blade so much. Since then, I've carried it pretty much every day - that was almost 2 years ago. As for a "long-term" review: it's retained its sharpness perfectly and hasn't developed any spot rust or other blemishes yet, even though the D2 it's made of is not entirely stain-resistant. I dropped it in closed position plenty, which has resulted in one single tiny chip in the G10, otherwise the handle is like new. I also dropped it on the blade once, it even fell perfectly on the tip. The tip didn't break off, it "mushroomed" like a bullet that hit a metal target. I ground a new tip into it and then re-edged it, which was not very difficult. It took maybe the better part of an hour and made the blade maybe 1mm shorter, tops. So rest assured, if a 6'5'' guy can drop it from shoulder height onto concrete, impacting perfectly onto the tip, then whatever you do to it won't cause any worse effects than that. It's a seriously great blade and has led me to gift a relative who likes carrying really small knives the Z050 and me itching to buy the M311, their top-of-the-line fixed blade. In short/ too long didn't read: ANV knives are really good and super cheap for their quality. The people who own and make them are competent and nice.

I really like the design of these. Simple and unfussy and classic. N690 is also a fairly underated steel. I think its a really good solid balanced steel and have never had any issues with it.

I'm pretty excited to see these here. I've had my Z100 for over a year now and I kinda like it, even though it's not perfect. Even after tuning it and breaking it in the action is still stiff. It's an issue in tolerances, I handled like 10 of these at once at a show last year, and each one felt different. I have no idea if they fixed it. I'm going to get another one if they did though, I like everything else about it.

I'm thinking about getting one. Your review is very positive. I generally get knives with edge retention focused heat treatments. But this is good price to performance from what you've said and I like n690 for a budget steel even if it's not heat treated amazingly well. It is not EU legal. And they have a lot of knife crimes right now in the UK, so the criminal politicians will likely full ban knives even more than the laws they currently have.

Have you checked out the little fixed blade that BRS has out? I know its not an outdoors knife really, but I think EDC fixed is really starting to trend. I'm also curious about the TDI pocket strike. Just please don't say the Czech Republic is 'Eastern Europe' - it's a common misconception that culture and history-ignorant journalists are spreading. This country has always been CENTRAL EUROPE - culturally, historically etc. and due to the history, it's kinda offensive to the people there to be thrown into the same bag as e.g. Russia etc., having been even occupied by them for some decades.... More general Wiki info here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Europe and background info by the U.N. here unstats.un.org/unsd/geoinfo/ungegn/docs/23-gegn/wp/gegn23wp48.pdf Thanks and enjoy your knife. :-)

For North American's we rarely consider Europe to have a central area. Denmark is in the north. Germany and Austria are west. Poland, Czech republic, Slovakia would all be eastern Europe. I think we were taught this way because of the cold war. Anything that fell under the Warsaw pact is east. (With perhaps east Germany being the exception). The Balkans are their own mess In the southeast.

I recently bought the Z100 and Z200. Good knives but they have HUGE flaws. The free turning pivot will eventually loosen itself after quite a bit of opening and closing. The pivot screw strip easy after tightening it often. Im not crapping on the knives, don’t get me wrong I really like the looks and materials of the knives. Also the liners don’t lock up super solid at first but they do break in eventually and lock up super solid. On the plus side they are easy to take apart and clean. When the pivot screw is tight they have ZERO blade play. Overall decent knives, just that dang pivot!!!

nice job as always. I have the z100 and for me its 'good' but not 'great'. the size is perfect, love the blade shape, but the action on the flipper is not spectacular by any means. not too sure how I feel about those washers. as for the clip, deep carry is nice, but when using the knife I can feel it bending and grinding against the scales, very minor but definitely a nuisance.

Question for ya, I noticed quite a bit of wrist while using the flipper tab version. Were you able to loosen the pivot on any of them? My z100 in g10 has a very stiff action, it will not open unless I use a little bit of wrist action. It’ll probably break in a tiny bit, but I was just curious.

Just quick word from Czech. We don't like to be called eastern Europe, we are central Europe. Eastern countries are known for corruption and not being a good place to live. Czechia is a safe place, very different from eastern European countries.

HOLD THE PRESSES, READ BEFORE BUYING: My z100 just arrived today. Looks great, action was a little slow but that is to be expected. The fit and finish is very well done, presentation with the box, sticker and lube that come with the knife is very well done. And I love the wire clip. As I am examining my z100 I noticed that 1/8 of an inch of the tip of the blade passes through the lanyard hole......wtf I do not use a lanyard on 95% of my knifes. But this is a complete fail from the company. How did this get past the design stage before everything was stopping and corrected. Due to this I must say I cannot buy another Acta Non Verba again. It becomes a principle thing with me. If the design dept. and ownership can miss such a complete fail, what else are they missing or not caring about. Maybe they should change their name to VERBA NON ACTA
